Bell trumps all.  And I do mean all.  Don't get me wrong, winning a national championship would be very special.  But there would definitely be some luster lost because the national championship trophy doesn't sound as sweet as the Monon Bell...and it would probably get ruined if we tried to ring it as such.

But in reality, the question is pretty bogus because if Wabash is good enough to win a national championship in the current D-III landscape, they wouldn't lose to Depauw.  I think the two events are mutually exclusive...they couldn't both happen within reason.

You just don't understand about the "Bell" Game, wish you were going to be there Saturday, hopefully, Keith will explain.  It's more than a very special day.  I am so glad that d3 football will have some representation.  Thanks.

What post exactly are you responding to? I am not sure what I even said on this board for you to think I don't understand.

"witt da one"  thanks for the nice words......as far tv or radio for me.......tv is fun, (the pay is better!!) but nothing beats calling games on the radio. I've been doing this for 23 years,
(the last 13 with Wittenberg) and I enjoy all the teams i cover, but there is just something about broadcasting on Saturday afternoon's calling Division III college football that stands out.

What's the injury status on Tristan Murray?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I've seen several posts on this board referring to "Massey Ratings". How does Massey differ from the QOWI that the NCAA uses and where can you find the most recent Massey Ratings?

Beating DePauw trumps all.  The rest is simply "along the way".  It is just unfortunate that we EVER have to play them there ...

DEPAUW TO HELL GET THE BELL !!!

And, by the by, a Wabash man is Buffett's manager.

The Massey ratings are found at www.mratings.com

They are power ratings similar to Jeff Sagarin's.

Pat,

I thought I read a post about some of your staff (or you?) attending this year's game, I think that is what BashDad is eluding to???  That would be very cool.

A National Championship without the Bell is like gravy without the taters.

The Bell every time.

Regarding the Bell versus a national championship  maybe if Wabash were closer to achieveing the ultimate d3 prize the comparison would be different.

Pat:

I was alluding to your post #38 yesterday afternoon on the "Monon Bell" thread.  Your point was that DePauw had more to play for because a win for them on Saturday would most likely gain them a playoff spot.  My point is that, yes, that while that could be true, throw it out the window along with teams' records, season stats, etc.  The thing that is most important on Saturday is that the Wabash L'il Giants and DePauw Tigers are lining up opposite each other to play for possession of the Monon Bell.  The raw emotion/experience of this game, both on the field and in the stands, is absolutely amazing.  That's what people mean when they say that winning this game "trumps" all else.

Wabash moves up to #16 in the AFCA poll this week.

The Monon Bell is our ultimate prize, joelmama.  That's what you're not getting here.

:) I am aware that JB's manager, or tour manager, or something is a Wabash grad.

Marty, not many do it better than you my friend. I'm sorry I missed you this year. Too far to drive from Harrisburg to Crawfordsville for each home game.

As for the Bell talk, we'll see in a couple of weeks after they've won the Bell and if they get beat in the playoffs how you guys feel :)

We've been there already - and while it was disappointing to lose to Mt. Union, going to the Allen Center and seeing the Bell made it all better.
