Never realized how good the Wabash web cast is till I started watching some of these other games. Great job whoever is responsible for the Wabash football webcast.

I thought Witt would be a much closer game.  Very surprised Florrence finished at 44% completions.     Mount/Witt came down to 2 things.

1.  Witt couldn't run the ball at all.   None!

2.  Burke is a difference maker with his vision and escape-ability.    Florrence appears to be a pretty good passer, but not athletic enough to hurt you.

With 17 seniors, Witt has a lot of holes to fill in 2014.    Mount on the other hand is mainly juniors and sophomores.

Agreed for the most part. I wasn't at the game so I don't really know what prompts you to describe Florence as "not athletic enough," but that's not at all my opinion. Seemed to me like UMU stopped the run, figured out how to defend Cunningham, and piled on points. 44% ain't good, but I don't think it's fair to paint the picture of, like, Florence being not good enough.

HScoach

I was trying to say he wasn't athletic enough to make plays with his feet.   Moved in the pocket well, but not a threat  to hurt you with his running ability.    Not trying to say he isn't a good QB.

So. I'm beginning to see why Hampden-Sydney lost two games. The fact that their qb has a canon for an arm is, at this point, somewhat of a liability. He's all over the place. As good as he was in the first half, he's that far in the other direction in the second.

Yeah, I guess I just don't agree with that. He's gained over 500 yards on the ground this year. Were you there? I'd be curious what exactly you saw.

If you go back to 2011, Florence ran for 150 yards and 7 TDs in limited touches in kind of a specialist/wildcat role (remember that fad?).  Last year he gained 600 yards running.  This year Witt seemed to step off of that a bit and Florence did most of his damage throwing to his wealth of capable receiving targets.  Today would have been the day that I would have thought Florence would have needed to recall some of his running glory days, but that didn't happen.  Maybe the downside of getting so much trust in guys like Cunningham, but Florence can- well I guess we can say could now- make some big plays running.  Just didn't happen today or as much this year as we have seen previously.

Uh, yeah.   I was there.

I saw him trying to run option and look quite pedestrian doing so.   Wasn't able to scramble out of the pocket either.

I hope he was there. He was calling the game on the radio.  :)

Curious because as a backup QB for two years Florence was inserted in red zone situations because he could both run and pass.  He made plenty of plays with his feet.  Maybe he didn't/couldn't do that today.  But Mount wasn't letting Witt do anything on the ground.  He may have been made to look awkward in the pocket.  With no video, only those present will be able to say.
So, Kenyon, Denison, OWU, etc. can live stream games but Mount won't.  Go figure.  How much could they be saving on ticket sales when some people stay home to watch on TV?  I suppose there has to be a reason I don't get.

Right. I knew that... Oops. Anyway, would enjoy reading an elaboration. There's a difference between not being dangerous with your legs and not being dangerous with your legs against Mount Union.

This is a thing that happens in the playoffs that bugs me a little.  People see a player one time in one game and then want to draw a broad, career-inclusive conclusion about that player.  Knott got a similar response from the folks in Alliance in 2002.  Some yahoo in Whitewater told me after the 2007 quarters that Adi Pynenberg wouldn't start in the WIAC.  Not just for Whitewater.  For any team in the WIAC.  It's all pretty unfair really.  Mount Union had a pretty decisive advantage today on the DL vs. Witt's OL.  And then it's not like the guys Reed has to run away from at Mount Union are snails.  Can't it be that Mount Union is really, really good instead of Reed Florence isn't all that good?

For whatever reason, I mixup Usee and HScoach. Just putting that out there.

I was impressed with Florence again today.  When he has time he is very accurate. He made some really nice throws today, especially in the first half.  And Cunningham is just a match up nightmare.  Good grief he's physical.

IMO Where the game turned on the Witt offense was when Mount realized they didn't need to do anything extra to shut down Gary/Dehnke.  They could pin their ears back and come after the pass without fear of those guys hurting them at all.  At that point they started getting a lot of pressure on Florence nearly every pass play and changed the game.  Witt was going to have to score a ton today because their D was not slowing down Mount at all.  Unfortunately for them they needed one of those RBs to bust a few runs and provide some balance and it just didn't happen.

It's not very widely-known, at least I think not very widely known, that the teams who make the playoffs have to flll out a form for the NCAA if they want to host a game.  A good way through the season the school is contacted by the NCAA.  They are told that since they MIGHT make the tounament, if they want to apply to host, they have to go through the procedure of filling out a request.  The form includes things like stadium size, press box capacity, and local hotels. motels, and restaurants.  Wouldn't you think in this age of technology that the NCAA would say a school has to have the willingness to send the game out on video--if for no other reason than to showcase the product.  But, no, so year after year unless we show up at the game we miss seeing the most storied NCAA Division III program in action until the Stagg Bowl.  Just saying.
