smedindy- i agree, hsu losing made things easy. if they had won, it would have been messy in the north. i still don't think they would have moved ww. either way wabash is  a 1 seed.

here's hoping ncc and wabash win. i would love to come down to crawfordsvilled and see that game next week.

good luck this week to the little giants.

oldguy- let's see, -8 Karma on 200+ posts. i think its safe to say i am not the only one who thinks your arguements are intellectually challenged. I am sorry if i hurt your feelings but anyone who argues a team w 4 national championships, who has been conference champ or runner up virtually every year since then (in a pretty tough conference) can't get to the next level because of its offense just doesn't appear to be very smart. Maybe its me who is missing something (being only 12 i don't have the life experience of an 'oldguy').

having said that, augie (again, they are not my team and i don't like the wing-t either) is in the playoffs again and this years version is pretty good so i will let their performance speak for itself.

oldguy

usee,

You didn't hurt my feelings.  I just thought calling me stupid is juvenile.  I made several very good points.  Others, on both sides, have made good points as well.  Even you have made some good points, despite the fact that I don't agree with them.  It was just an interesting discussion.  And it was very civil until you started taking it personally and resorted to calling someone who disagrees with you stupid.

My main argument, as "stupid' as you think it is, has not been proven incorrect in the last 15 years.  If I do get proven wrong this year, or the next, or the next, I will alter my view a bit.  But until then I won't.  The proof is in the pudding.

The Karma is just a faceless way to criticize someone while hiding behind a wall.  I lost Karma after I posted that I was pleased to see Witt's defense play better in their first win of the season against Denison.  That'll tell you how much karma means.

oldguy- taken to the extreme your logic means that every team in the north besides mt union doesn't have an offense that can get to the next level. it is an absurd statement. why is 15 years the right cut off? why not 2 years or 30? i actually thot the fact that every sr class at augie since 1978 has won a conf title (and been to the playoffs) is a pretty good stat.

the good news is no one needs your respect to know augie is one of the top programs in the courntry every year. it is pretty much accepted (outside of your world) as a proven fact. (as a wheaton fan it is tough for me to even type that).

USee,

I don't think Oldguy is arguing the caliber of the Augies.  The augies are a great team.  They would have to be great to compete the way they have throughout their history. As you say, to win the CCIW, or place runner-up, is a great achievement.  But that is the level of the augies.  They win the CCIW, make the playoffs, and then what.  The next level is the national championship.  They have not won that claim in many years.  Once they have, they will have broken through their old level, and gone to the next.  I think that is all oldguy is claiming.  There is a great saying, Money talks, bull**** walks.  When the Augies move on to the quater finals, thus winning the north region, then all this talk will end (on the Wing-T subject).

As far as my being a supposed tyrant and telling you what you can and cannot discuss on this board, I never meant to be one.  I am pretty sure that many on this board agreed.  Especially after many of the comments that were posted during the initial discussion.

darkside- the logic that the wing t is not competitive simply because it hasn't won the north region in 15 years is seriously flawed. in 15 years the only teams that has come out of the north to make the final 4 are mt union-12x, albion-1x, allegheny 1x, and dayton-1x (now div 1-AA). if you expand that time horizon to 25 yrs you can add dayton 4 more times and augie 6x. If you limit the time horizon to 10 years its just mt union.

so, is every other style of north offense obsolete because they haven't made it? it just seems to be a ridiculous argument.

I would be remiss if I didn't write this note of congratulations to all the Wally faithful.  You have had a great regular season and I enjoyed listening/watching the Monon Bell game on the web.  I had all sorts of faith that the game would live up to the rivalry's legend but seeing it online was an unexpected treat.

Congrats on your regular season and best of luck in the playoffs.  Crawfordsville should be a pretty exciting place this weekend.  Best of luck.

WOO'S WOES: First of all, the plus side, Woo finished above 500 at 6+4.  Also, all injuries appear to be of the type that should be well healed by next season.

Now, some negatives: No team that Woo beat finished over 500, with CWRU the only team to finish at 500.  The combined records of the teams they beat is W-19+L-41.  The scoring totals from the games they lost was Woo 39 – OPP. 134.  The last 8 quarters of the season, the Offense went scoreless.

Where does Woo go from here?  Pointing fingers is not an option as there is not any area of this team that is faultless.  I, for one, would like to see a rethink of offensive strategy.  Hoping the end result would be an offensive strategy that aimed at the talent strengths of the offensive unit and at specific situations during a game.  I think that the present strategy has the players trying to fit into the scheme with many having to stretch their talents beyond its limits to make the scheme work.

usee,

Thats a solid point.  However, there are 3 other regions.  All the final four teams and the champions of late have not run a wing-t style offense.  Given, Mount has almost always been in the final four and usually in the championship, so the numbers are skewed slightly.  But there still hasn't been a wing-t team to make it that far in a while.  The percentages largely favor non-wingt offenses.

Also, I have great respect for Augie.  By no means, am I trying to diminish their program and accomplishments.  Considering how much I dislike their offense, I have even more respect for them since they keep winning with it.  I'm just trying to go by "types of offense" and not "specific teams."  You are right that Mount skews it a bit, but thats only 25% of the teams in the final 4.

usee, since you are a Wheaton guy, did you happen to see the Witt-Wheaton playoff game in 1995?  It was quite the crazy game.  I was in attendance.  Upsetting for my side, but an exciting game nontheless.

usee

indeed i was at the 1995 witt/wheaton game. it began as a shootout. i was worried as witts defense looked really good coming in. i am glad the game was at our place and not witt's.

OWU finished strong, the seniors went out in style. OWU dominated Wooster on both sides of the ball. Nike, what is your opinion? Please let me take solace in the fact that OWU is 1 of the top 3 teams in the NCAC. I like their chances next year because most of the key players will be returning. I will again restate that OWU is at the corner with the blinker on and is ready to make the turn.

To all the Wooster fans: I really enjoyed the atmosphere at your place and the band was fantastic.

Good luck to Wabash, make us all proud. This will be the first time I will be following the playoffs close and I'm looking forward to a good showing.

Thanks to all of you that has made my rookie season fun. I look forward to next year and many more years to come. This board is very diverse and I enjoy everyone's posts, even though I don't agree with some. A special thanks to Pat for making this possible.

GO BISHOPS IN 2006!

ps-Hey Pat, I would be interested in a baseball board.

oldguy

Yeah, I was surprised Witt's D didn't play better either.  I'd say the turning point was the blooped onside kick that Wheaton recovered.

On a side note, I really liked the stadium.  The home side stands were taller rather than wide, which I like.  Sort of similar to Wabash's home stands.  And the field was sunk down a couple feet if I remember correctly.  Given, that was 10 years ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy.  I'd be interested in knowing if it has changed at all.

BashBacker#16

Something else to think about for playoff teams is the 52-man roster.  There will be some tough decisions for Wabash...  There will be some very good players that won't even have pads on.

BashBro - back to the real world huh!  Likewise, good time Saturday & a great game!!!
