the only change is the field is now fieldturf w a new track. pretty nice place overall. you can see pics of it on the wheaton website.

from the witt/wheaton game, i remember donaldson, pope and a really good defensive end as standouts for witt. also, neibuhr was witt's coach and obviously has since come back to his stomping grounds in the cciw.

I find all this talk about "how the Wing-T can't win" more than a little humorous.  The key to any offense is the proper personnel.  Doesn't matter if it's the spread, Wing-T, or anything in between.   The key is the personnel.

When MUC and Augie played in 1999, the Augie O had the game won if not for their D.  Augie scored 33 points on a very good MUC defense and had the ball for 45+ minutes.  The real problem was that the Augie D gave up big play after big play.

And to put it in proper perspective, of all the teams in the D3 playoffs, the one that scares me the most as a MUC fan is Augie.  And it's solely because of the Wing-T!  MUC's defense does not match-up well with a power running game, especially the Wing-T.  Too much misdirection and play fakes.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Solid effort by the Bishops vs COW. The OWU "D" shut-down Woo until they scored very late in the game.  A great job by 10 Sr's in going out on a winning note. I hope kcreds is right about the blinker being on; this program needs to be turning the corner...in a big way. Congrats on the Wabash  on being the  champs.Iam glad The Bell game was a good one to watch and the spoils go to WC. All attention on this board will be focused on the LG's run in the playoffs; as it should be. Good luck to Men of Wabash, hoping the D3 crown goes to you guys....

Props to Allegheny, OWU, Kenyon, and Oberlin for your NCAC wins this past Saturday.  Some were surprised by the Gheny win over Witt--I was not, I saw you play Bash in Meadville.  I expect you to contend for the championship next year.  It was great to see you finish this way after the disappointing start!

Pleased that Wabash drew Albion for the first game.  Other than Monmouth ... Albion was a very fine choice.  We had some great games in the 90s.  A good school with a good football heritage.  In as much as we cannot renew the rivalry ... due to NCAC conference alliances ... it is good to have the rivalry extended in this way.

Any Albion Britons out there ... congrats on winning the MIAA ...tailgate behind Hollett is certainly open to you.  We are going to beat you ... but lets have fun in the process.  GO LITTLE GIANTS.

Me too, we haven't heard the cheer of "Albion, albion, albion your sister" for far too long at Hollett.  I always considered that one of the classics :)

HSCOACH:  OH MAN OF WISDOM!

Thank you for your post regarding the wing T.  Finally, a post that hits the nail on the head.  The most important part of any O or D playbook is the players, will they fit into the scheme of things.  I have seen so many instances where a certain style is forced down a teams throat even though they might not be best fit for that role and on the other hand there have been a few instances where I have seen a coach mold a strategy around the talent of his players.  His success at New England brings Bill Belechek and his staff to mind.

kcreds,
Wasn't Saturday the most beautiful day for college football this fall?
Well, I'll tell you what I think.  I saw your defense against Kenyon also this year and I think it may be the best in the league. And I saw Wabash and Witt play this year too.
Your ends and dbs were great.
But your offense had so many scoring opportunities that were wasted. Why pass with first and goal from the five? Bring your big backs in and run it in.
And I see why your quarterback stays so banged up. He rushed 20 times.
OWU won. No question the better team. But I bet in the games you lost this season if the offense could have sustained a few more drives you could have won.  No one really scored a lot of points against you. Your team should have put up more points with the great field position they had all day.
Oh well, time to root for Wabash. At least until next year.
Did you have any popcorn or hotdogs? And did you like the bagpipes at the beginning of the game? And I think we have the only NCAC marching band.

It must have changed from "girlfriend" to "sister" in the 90's! :)

I wouldn't be surprised if those cheers are brought out of mothballs on Saturday!

I might have to print that and have it framed.  It's not too often that I get accused of having a clue.......

HSCoach,

I will stay away from this for the most part.  The only thing I'll say is that argument was already used and debated on both sides earlier.  For everyone's sanity, I will not repeat that discussion.

I checked out Wheaton's stadium.  It definitely is a nice facility.  I always enjoy checking out other stadiums around the country.

I'll throw out this question.  Which NCAC stadium and field is the nicest, most scenic place to play and watch a game?  I'm not asking about the loudest fans or the best band, etc.  Just the nicest setting for football, aesthetically speaking?

My vote is Denison.  It's a great scene there on a cool, sunny, fall day.

oldguy:

Denison is nice, very nice--I agree with your choice, as limited.  Wooster, though, with the pipers and band is the most complete fall college football experience in the conference, IMHO.  However, Denison does provide visitor seating with their team--I've said this before, but, on the road, this is very important.  Hence:  Witt and Woo, two supposed leaders in this conference leave a lot to be desired.  Woo says they don't have room, but they do--if they wanted to accomodate "visiting" fans.  They don't.

Wabash fans, as you know I can't do my "It's another Wabash College.....FIRST DOWN!" bit since I have to do my NPR announcer impression to appease the NCAA.

So just listen for Grunge - he'll be leading the way on that one.
