Maybe you could just increase the volume a couple of notches when you say "first down"?  ;)

I went to the Colts/Texans game last month and on first downs the Texans PA announcer says (though not very often) "Texans...." and the crowd fills in "first down". For about 3 minutes the crowd was into that game.

Anyway, good job, Smeds. Maybe you could sneak in a "fiddy" when no one is looking?

I remember back when I was covering Wabash's presence in the NCAA Basketball tournament (does this date me?) and there was a very much different set of rules like: everyone, even students, has to buy a ticket (so the lords of amateur sports can recoup part of their pittance they dole out to D3), no sound amplified booster noise, and other "no fun" rules to remind us all that this is a playoff game that happens to be played on your home turf - not a home football game.  What are the ground rules for hosting the playoffs next weekend?

Speaking of basketball - do we have any two-sport athletes that are going to miss out on the early part of season?

Next thing you know, NCAA will completely lose it and dare to suggest we not allow the tapped beer kegs behind the Wabash home stand on the other side of the railroad tracks with unlimited entry and exit.

I once dropped a suggestion that alumni should perhaps build a skybox overlooking Little Giant stadium (say on the roof of Goodrich or other freestanding structure) just outside the perimiter of the stadium.  Hey, they can do it on the rooftops of the buildings on Waveland Ave in Chicago - why not in Crawfordsville?   ;D

Pleased that Wabash drew Albion for the first game.

Me too, we haven't heard the cheer of "Albion, albion, albion your sister" for far too long at Hollett.  I always considered that one of the classics :)

It must have changed from "girlfriend" to "sister" in the 90's! :)

I wouldn't be surprised if those cheers are brought out of mothballs on Saturday!

Again, funny.  I had always heard "mom" instead of "sister."  Regardless, it has been pointed out to the Sphinx Club and hopefully will be in use.

We do have some two sport athletes.  Backup QB Dustin Huff and WR Mike Russell are listed on the hoops roster.  Clearly, they'll be missing at least this weekend's action.  Not sure how much this hurts the Little Giant hoopsters.  Neither Huff or Russell played ball last year.  Both are tremendous athletes though and if they can shoot at all they'll be welcome additions.

I'd be ok to not see them until January.   ;)

In regard to the best football environment, I'd go with OWU (that is if I can't choose Wabash).  As a visiting player, the stadium was neat, the locker room was good, and eveything was in good shape.  Wooster has a neat environment, but the lack of visitor seating and locker room are negatives.  All in all, the visitor seating arrangements and visitor locker rooms in the conference are horrible, especially in comparison with the visitor locker rooms at Byron P. Hollett.  How about the one toilet in the middle of the locker room at Allegheny?

From what I hear, there are quite a few Wabash football players who will be going out for basketball this year.  Huff was an all-state player in high school, and Russell suppossedly has an unbelievable vertical.  We'll see how it works.

I thought I'd post the final power rating amalgamation for the NCAC. Remember, this is based on if you won, how you did in the game, and how good your opponents are. There are 219 D-3 programs.

17. Wabash
63. Ohio Wesleyan
88. Wittenberg
102. Wooster
128. Kenyon
134. Denison
150. Allegheny
187. Oberlin
207. Earlham
211. Hiram

With rankings like that - Wabash is that low because of their SOS. Still, 10-0 is 10-0!

Smed,

Where did you get those figures?  I would love to see how that falls for the other teams in the playoffs.  Thanks.

This is my own personal power rating amalgamation, using three power ratings and mixing them up. I just posted something in the playoff board.

I remember hearing that Wabash College did something or made some students do something to apologize to Albion for the sexist and profane Albion Albion Albion your Seeeee stir!!!!  chant 10 or so years ago.  True??

Huff is a pure shooter & scorer that can light it up.  He had 28 in a half once at Martinsville.  I have heard Russell can jump out of the gym and was a nice player at Terre Haute North.  They can both hoop.

Was on campus last night for a dinner and heard the bell ringing as I walked to Detchon Hall...NICE!!!

Kind of a bummer that the playoffs fall on Thanksgiving break for the students.  I hope many stay around for Saturday's game.  If Bash wins, it will again be a bummer without the students next Saturday since they are off all week.

I think we will still have a good crowd and playoff atmosphere this Saturday.

Go Bash!

I believe the break situation was similar in '02 for the MacMurray and Witt games.  I recall having pretty good crowds at those games...I'd cut my break short by a couple of days to take in some playoff games.

It'll be a tall test for sure, but it will be on our turf.

That's what the playoffs are all about...nothing comes easy.

Saying that Wabash isn't a legit #1 seed is bogus, though.  Smacks hard of really sour grapes.
