"With a victory Saturday, Wittenberg would have its first three-game winning streak against Wabash since the Little Giants joined the NCAC in 2000."

Um...
BashDad - I travel to New York's Hudson Valley on business from time to time and I must admit that sitting in traffic on the Tappanzee Bridge does seem like one of Rip Van Winkle's naps, or perhaps I have crossed into an alternative universe where Wabash made it into the playoffs in 2013 afterall  and lost to Witt for a second time last year.  I looked at the calendar and it is still 2014 so I didn't sleep through the season.  I do recall attending the Wabash Witt game in 2012, and Tyler Holmes consuming the clock in the fourth quarter like Count Dracula at a blood bank, and Wabash winning the game.  Perhaps the Springfield Sun is engaging in some wishful thinking on their part or fictional new articles, but a Witt win in 2014 will not be three in a row. Let's hope their streak ends at one.

HCAlum and ETP:

Excellent comments and +k.  I have always agreed with that philosophy also i.e. of going with the upperclassman unless there are extremely extenuating circumstances as you both have outlined (in other words, to use today's terminology..."you don't throw the upperclassmen under the bus").  Thanks for the interesting, but relevant discussion because it is a situation that will always be present.

If handled the wrong way -- you can absolutely LOSE the locker room, as a few of you have pointed out.  If its an act of desperation, the kids on the team will see it that way.

GO BASH!

Wally_Wabash – With all due respect, do you honestly really think Wittenberg will only score 10 points??? I think the game will be much closer than your prediction. (just my opinion)

10.  Unless they get something extra from the defense or specials.  Otherwise, they get 10.  This Wabash defense is out to atone.  They will be, I believe the kids say, turnt up.

As Wally and others have mentioned,  Turnover Margin is an important stat.. But far from "the stat" to forecast with.   Wabash had an amazing turnover margin advantage heading into last year's game..  Didn't really mean a bit of difference,  we got it handed to us good.

I think this game will come down to a few specific areas for each team:

Witt
1. Can they run enough?
2. Will Jenkins have time to throw?
3. Can the Witt D disrupt the rhythm of this Wabash offense which has found itself and is rolling right now.

Wabash
1. Not beating themselves on offense with drive killing penalties and sacks
2. Pressure on Jenkins
3. Forcing Witt to run to move it.

1st Qtr is very important in this one.

Prediction -  Wabash 28 Witt 17

Wabash Hokie

I have not yet attended a game at Witt and am planning to drive over on Saturday morning.  With all of the fans sitting on the same side of the field, how much room is set aside for visiting fans?  Are there clear lines of demarcation or do they "cross the streams"?  I am hoping for a good time but I have had more than a few very bad experiences when forced to sit on the same side of the field - both at high school and at college games. Seems like those seating arrangements bring out the worst in both fan bases.

If there is a good seat to be had, how early can a Wabash fan get in to grab one?

There's enough space for everybody.  Signs will point you to the "visitors" section which is going to be all the way up at the north end of the bleachers.  What the signs don't tell you is that Wittenberg's parents of seniors also like to use that northernmost section as their own- I had some of these parents shoo me out of "their seats" several years ago.  Silly me; the signs clearly said "Visitors" and didn't say anything about "Entitled Wittenberg Parents".  But hey, I took the high road and moved down a few rows.  And then those parents had to sit there and watch me go nuts when Wabash scored 10 points in the last five minutes of the game to win 13-10.  They were so crushed.  It was fantastic.

Generally speaking, I've had pretty good gameday experiences at Witt.  If the score is in their favor late in the game, you'll almost certainly get the couple of funny bros that will wander down to the north end of the field and work the aisles with their killer library of "you don't have girls at your school" jokes that they've been saving up all year, but otherwise people tend to mind their own business.  It won't bother you if you don't let it.

At first, I read this as "I took the high road and MOWED down a few rows."

Upon a second reading, this makes more sense.

I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Will be watching the Scots closely these last couple games. Coach has to be careful not to disrespect players that busted their tails for him. Winning and winning now is still the goal. Don't see how you sit an All Conference performer that gives you the best chance to win now.  Next year is not this year.

I'll give a counter, though, if a senior is really being a horses' ass or inciting rebellion, then you can make an example of him.

With wally, I think 'mowed' down a few rows makes more sense! ;D

From everything I have heard and observed at the games and in discussions after the games during this past week, that is not the case here at all. Just about all teammates and players I have been around mature as they get older.
