Respect the blood, sweat and tears that Richard Barnes has given to the College of Wooster and put him on the field in his last game.....   Wooster owes him that.  Period.  I hope they do the right thing.

Could not agree more. At times, Barnes put the program on his back.

Hiram College wins the inter-collegiate basketball world championship at the World's Fair Universal Exposition Olympic Games in St. Louis, Missouri. Final score: Hiram, 25; Latter Day Saints University, 18.

BashDad

I kinda get the feeling we're inventing this whole thing about Barnes. Doesn't it make more sense that he's just hurt?

sigma one

Again, a few weeks ago when Barnes didn't play in the 4th qtr, someone on the board said he recalls that after a sack and an incomplete pass Barnes hobbled off.  I hope it is an injury--not that I want to see anyone hurt--rather than a benching.

smedindy

That's the feeling I get, BashDad. I just hope he can play a bit more.

From The Wooster Daily Record today:

A lot has changed, however, since the Bishops and Scots closed out the 2013 season at Wooster's John P. Papp Stadium. Gone from the picture are a pair of record-setting QBs. OWU's Mason Espinoza graduated last spring after setting nearly every school and NCAC record, while fifth-year Wooster senior Richard Barnes has been relegated to the role of mentor for freshman Gary Muntean after establishing school marks for completions and yards passing in a career for the Scots.

The above quote was from the city's newspaper, not the school's student newspaper. Do not miss the nuanced sarcasm in the sportwriter's words, the same sportswriter who has been covering Mr. Barnes his whole time at Wooster.  I have not read one mention of an injury in any paper or talked to anyone on campus who knows of an injury.

Will be watching "the game" today from afar.  Good luck Wabash.  Trust a victory lands you in the big dance.

At the risk of getting hammered on this one....can someone tell me the significance of the Monon Bell? Sorry but to quote Tom Hanks from "Big": "I don't get it". Thanks-

We've played each other in a fierce rivalry since the 1800's. The schools have never liked each other, even back in the 1890's. Today, over 10,000 fans will gather and there will be about 60 viewing parties across the country. AXS TV has broadcast it for years. (That's Mark Cuban's joint). It's been broadcast on ABC and ESPN2 and featured in SI.

The trophy is legendary, and has been stolen and re-stolen many times. The legends of those stories add to the lore.

Basically it's an intense small college rivalry that consumes both fan bases and pound-for-pound is even more intense than big time rivalries - every one who goes to Wabash or DPU cares deeply about this.

Use the Google machine on Monon Bell and check out more of the lore on http://depauwtigers.com/sports/fball/monon_bell/history

Right-on Bishopleftiesdad...those student-athletes that
gave of themselves for their program & school should be
featured.
Watched a bit of the Gheny/Witt game...Gators were playing
inspired ball for a while....then Witt just plowed them over..
28-7 - early 2nd half...

aueagle

Looking at some scores around the country....That "other" Indiana Classic...
Victory Bell...Frankling cruising over Hanover..Hampden-Sydney didn't show-up...
The Puppies ARE for real...Adrian continues to roll...What has happened in Berea, Ohio?
Time for a change at Baldwin-Wallace? I want to say that the NCAC could be on the cusp
of the balance and growth we, on the board have spoken & wanted for a while. Hiram
has a break-thru, Denison, OWU & DePauw building, Witt and the LG's making national
in-roads...if only the Gators can turn their ship around...just spit-balling-back to the games on "V"

smedindy

That. Was. Defensive. Domination.

Six in a row, LG's!
