Y'all just about got beat by River Falls.

Wally -- where does this come from??  Are you in the South?

Not a knock, but I'm curious.  In my town, we have "Florence, Y'all" in reaaallly big letters on a water tower near I-75 in Northern Kentucky.

Not even remotely, but when I get a little fired up I might slip a y'all in there now and then.  Mini shout out to good buddy down the Republic (LG) who is probably most responsible for the occasional y'all in my stream of consciousness.

All I know, IF we can take care of business this week.....   the 2014 version of UWW vs. Wabash at the Perk would be more competitive than our last trip.  Not saying we would win....  but it would be more competitive.    We are a different team and program.

Wabash's 2012 Data Points would support this:

Wabash 29 -  North Central 28
Mount Union -  20   Wabash  8
UWW 13 -  Mount Union 10

I think I introduced Wally to "y'all" somewhere around 1996. Now, when he starts dropping a "fixin' to"* then my work is complete.

Bleed,
Thanks for proofing my posts and I'd be honored to share a beer with you. We each have a game in front of us before that could happen.

I'm from Montgomery County but my grandparents lived in Ladoga and I heard enough 'fixin' to', 'reckons', 'yonder' and 'you alls' to fill a country store. Of course that is the Southern part of the county.

Now if you excuse me, I've got to move the settee and the davenport...

While it may just be apocryphal, the story I've heard is that the water tower originally said Florence Mall (which is located underneath the tower) and that enough local businesses complained that the powers that be changed it to Florence, Y'all.  Now you know the rest of the story.

Well, it's on Wikipedia so it has to be true.

UWW 13 -  Mount Union 10

This game was in 2011.  Burke played the last 2.5 qtrs. of that game as a freshman due to injuries to the starter and backup.  What a boring game that was.  I think Mount only attempted like 2 passes in the 2nd half.  They took the air out of the ball.  And Belton was hurt, but tried to relieve the other QB who was playing poorly.  It was just a disaster at QB for both teams that day.

Yes, both teams were beat up pretty bad going into that game.  In the end Mount had more depth.  If you like defense, you had to like the game.  Low scoring, but not much happening, especially in the second half.  Mount played it conservatively, and Wabash could not do anything on offense to force Mount to play differently.
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

I know comparative analysis with regards to opponents is rough water to tread, but given Franklin's schedule and the outcome of those games, I do not think they would have been better than 7-3, maybe 6-4 depending on what time of the season they caught Denison and Depauw. Their main weakness will come in defending the Wabash inside zone / midzone scheme, if Wabash is picking up chunks of yardage on the ground in the first two drives, resulting in points, Franklin will have to stack the box, and that will all but end it.

If Franklin is stout inside, however, they can give Wabash a game for sure. Their offensive production speaks for itself. The key for the Grizzlies will most likely be not having to sacrifice a safety to the box or an extra bandit LB.

Also, look for the Special teams wild-card. One return goes for 6 for either team and the complexity of the game is changed.

No hard feelings guys. The tone and tenor just struck me, that's all. I wouldn't say I was "butthurt" by the fact some of you want to play WW. (mostly because I think Wally just made that up on the spot, really never heard it before).  I will be straight up with you that it pressed a button though.  Not because of a "kiss my ring" attitude.   More because "oh yeah, you want to play us? Well we want to play you!"  You guys show plenty of spunk.  Different guys do it for different reasons. I would ask that when someone from WW shows spunk also, you don't just automatically think it's a "ring kissing" thing. Maybe it's just a ..well...purple schmuck thing.

Oh don't get me wrong- part of liking the matchup with Whitewater is because I think Wabash's style lends itself better to a game with UWW than maybe the other top seeds.  There's plenty to like about the way that game could play out.  Not saying Wabash wins the game, not saying they don't.  All bets are off if Kumerow is healthy and playing.  Whitewater might win by a jillion.  But I'm really excited about the idea of seeing how that game could go.

And really, would you rather fans from your opposition be excited about these games or would you rather people not care and say things like "well, I guess we might as well not even get on the bus"? Because the latter is lame and boring (as I'm finding out this week).  The teams deserve better than that.  But I think we can have that kind of conversation and game build up without everybody jumping to the conclusion that the bullet points on both sides all distill down to "you suck" because I don't think that's really what anybody means.  Certainly not Wabash fans re: Wisconsin-Whitewater.  We know better than that.

Of course not. I like the exchange. That's why I said at the end that I liked the fact that an intelligent fan can also get into an emotional/fun spat. It's all good. I was just letting you know how you come off to others. Ya'll don't care. No worries, it is what it is.  ;)

Bashdad, you have no power to delete my posts. You do have the power to ignore them, I believe. It is found in your settings. But you won't because deep inside you like me.  ;D
