Watch out - might make LG's soft :o.  I 'fondly' recall the green cinderblock and the virtually inedible food (3 blocks away) at IWU in the late 60s.  Students today have no idea how lucky they are.

While driving through OHIO on vacaion I chanced upon Crawfordville so I took a break and checked out. Wabash.  Very pretty campus and nice facilities.  Really liked the football facilities but I wondered what they are building next to it.

That's probably some of the sweet (suite?) new student housing that's being built. It's a really cool project and makes me a tad jealous of the next generation of Wabash students.  :)

I feel you.  Thomas More has suite dorms now and I'm assuming got rid of the life-stained carpets in the original dorms I lived in.  They also have numerous other new buildings.  Twas just a commuter college when I was there - jealous of the new experience and maybe just maybe I'd like to be a college student again, with no responsibilities other than off season workouts  ;D

They will FINALLY begin refurbishing Martindale at the conclusion of the current housing project.  I haven't been on the fourth floor in many years, but I suspect that there is still a payphone at one end of the hallway and a broken dumbwaiter at the other end.

The payphones on all floors were gone by fall of 95 when the phone system was installed. And the dumbwaiters did not work at any point between 95-99.

Serious question, though. As much as I loved living in the Dale for four years is it really cost effective to refurbish rather than demolish and build? It's still a giant cinderblock laid out like an old school tiered prison. What kind of refurbishment fixes that?

It was a year ago, as the current project was getting underway, that Pres. Hess mentioned that addressing M-dale (my home for four years as well) was next on the agenda, and my recollection is that the concept was refurbish or remodel.  But that was a year ago, and I am getting old.

I don't think they can afford to take that many beds off line at one time.

That was my thought, also.  I don't think you could do a total tear down and rebuild of a building that size in a summer which means you'd have figure out where to put 100+ students for at least one semester, maybe two.  And then all of those kids would miss out on the early A.M. Baxter Funk™ pick-me-up on the way to 8 a.m. classes and we don't want that.

When I worked on campus, and the Delt house was still the Delt house, I wandered in there a few times and shook my head, "I used to live here? Like this?"

New favorite quarterback: Logan Schrader. Wartburg.

Nate Wara 2.0

Wait -- seriously -- did we know about this guy? This is an All-American debut. Wow.

Has been talked about a bit on the podcast -- more so early in the year when I was at Wartburg's games with Augsburg and Bethel.

Was he as impressive then?

He was impressive to me!

Apparently so. Schrader gets Coleman's nod for first team AA.  Will be fun following him and Wartburg this season.
