Bashbrother:  some other players to think about . . . You can look up the particulars on the roster.

          QB: Rice, of course
RB:  Johnson, as a back up to Zurek
          WR:  Garrity, Brazel, Burton, Boyer
OL:  Leath; don't be surprised if he beats out one of the returning starters
          TE:  Buresh, D. and Fullencamp

          DL:  Simpson and Alston
          LB:  Broecker, Sinnis, Jones
          LB/S:  (Wilkins replacement)  Kseniak
          DB:  Parks

I'm sure i have missed a few who will compete, including a couple of talented freshmen.

Great stuff Sigma One..   Tons of depth is a great thing and a testament to the fantastic job ER and this coaching staff has done.

I am sure there will be some really strong battles at many positions.  Looking forward to seeing players like Alston and some of the other names contribute.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Much appreciated! Should be a great season! Can not wait for the Witt game !

With a long season of hopefully more than 10 games, the guys who are number 2, 3, and 4 on the depth chart will need to see a good bit of playing time to help make a good run late in the season. Depth and good luck in the injury department are major keys to a successful season. There are some very talented players among the freshman class that will see playing time on Saturday and with the red squad games to help them prepare as well.  It looks like there are a number of freshman who will be able to contribute this year, and with hard work in the coming off season with strength and conditioning, the future looks bright.

Wabash1 - don't get too far ahead in your thinking.  The LG's face a rebuilding, but talented group at Hampden Sydney.  One game at a time!

Absolutely not. Hampden Sydney has a strong tradition and a great football program! I think this group of seniors would know better after what happened with Oberlin and Allegheny a few years back. Just looking forward to a great game between two league rivals.

I for one am anxious about getting back into the swing. Hopefully I won't be knee deep in metrics and analysis most of the season - or doing data transfers to and from our new online platform. Wait, no, I will be.

Thank goodness the games are Saturdays!

Just saw a DPU tweet (https://twitter.com/nateevans15/status/626582845960683520) that includes one of those motivational locker-room posters. This one highlights a quote from LEGENDARY SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON HEAD COACH NICK MOUROZIS.

This is the quote:

"Attitude reflects motivation, motivation reflects performance, performance reflects success."

Read that again:

"Attitude reflects motivation [got it], motivation reflects performance [huh?], performance reflects success [WTF???]."

I don't get it. Let's maybe get more specific around that nifty transitive verb repetition thing he's got goin'.

"Focus reflects wanting to win, wanting to win reflects... [reflects?]... [reflects]... [I don't think he means reflects]... [BEGETS!]... begets execution, execution... begets... winning?

Execution begets winning. Okay.

This is dumb.

But maybe we've been too academic! Let's try a little harder, apply some generous interpretation, and offer a revision. Here we go:

"Hunger compels the hungry [HELL YES. THIS IS GOING TO BE GOOD!], the hungry are destined to eat, and eating shall FEED US [LET'S GO WIN SOME BALL GAMES! YOM YOM YOM!]!!!!!"

Depauw sucks. And I want lunch.

I wanted to take a moment here as we go into our final crunch time on Kickoff 2015 to thank NCAC fans for their support of Kickoff 2015. You guys are among the top five conferences supporting the site and our ongoing coverage of Division III football very nicely so far this season and Keith and Ryan Tipps and I really appreciate it. If you haven't subscribed yet, earlier is always better than later!

Done....  Thanks for all of the hard work that the Staff of D3Sports.com puts into this site and the significant visibility/access it gives to Division III Sports.

Could not imagine a season without it.

Rebuilding?  I don't think so. Retooling ok. But definitely not rebuilding. 9 players return that started at least 1 game on offense and 6 return on defense that started at least 1 game.
Hampden Sydney College
ODAC Champions 77, 82, 83, 87, 07, 09, 11, 13, 14
NCAA Playoffs - 77, 07, 09, 10, 11, 13, 14
The "Game" 60 wins and counting...

HSC Tiger

Whether it is "rebuilding" or "retooling," Hampden Sydney did lose its great quarterback and receiver combo.  When they were slowed by injuries late in the season last year, HS struggled a bit.  HS is nonetheless a very talented team with returning players with a lot of experience, and with a good coaching staff.  HS will be ready to give Wabash a good game.

My point to Wabash1 was that looking down the road, particularly facing a team as good as HS in the opener is courting disaster.  I expect the game to be hard fought with the team that wins earning the victory.  I also expect that win or lose, both teams will be in the thick of their respective conference championship races and looking for playoff spots.
