I'll dial it back after the game. So if I understand you and Pat your coach during recruiting season was interviewing for a job none of you expected him to get?  A job he did not expect to get? Or at a minimum have a shot at getting?  Baloney!  Do I need to go back and share all the quotes of concern from you guys earlier this year?

I'm speaking in retrospect. When you apply for a job, you generally don't know who else is applying, right? I think that's how it works.

By this board I assume you mean the NCAC board where a bunch of Wabash fans gather and tell each other how good their team is.

If you only read your board and the NCAC board then you miss a lot. I know you're just trying in vain to boost your program and such but honestly, you're so far out of your league trying to pretend you know something nationally in D-III that I can't help you. I won't debate you point for point. Got much more important things to do.

Dad
We weren't ranked at the end of the year.

If you think UWW crossed his name off the list because of their playoff game, you're an idiot. He was likely on the list because of it.

And I don't care HSC wasn't ranked at the end of the year. That's directly related to losing a game against Wabash.

But I don't even know what we're talking about anymore.

Throwing the flag here. In 1976 HSC defeated #1 ranked in DIII then Madison University, now James Madison University, in an ABC nationally televised game. If you are going to make statements about a program's whole history, you should at least look up some of the highlights. Unranked Franklin doesn't measure up to that win, though it is now almost 40 years in the past, it is still part of the "program's history".

I would venture a guess that Wabash has never beaten the #1 ranked team in DIII, and probably doesn't have a win that good, but I won't make a definite statement since I'm not sure...

Fair enough. I was being inflammatory. Wabash played for the title in '77, though I would say our "best win" was 2011 versus North Central.

Coach Bryant successfully rotated two quarterbacks at Alabama in the 1970's, and both went on to play in the NFL.  So while using two quarterbacks is unusual, it is not unheard of.

In along season, having the insurance of having an experienced quarterback being ready to go if, heaven forbid, one were to get injured, isn't a bad idea.  Also, Putko throws with his right arm, and Rice with his left so it adds some extra complexity for the opposing defense to be prepared for.  Putko is a  senior and Rice a junior.  There are also several other good freshman and sophomore quarterbacks.  So, unlike the transition the H-SC has with Nash Nance graduating, and Wabash faced in the 2012 season having to start Putko as a freshman, Wabash in 2016 will have an experienced quarterback along with several others who can be ready for the 2017 season.

Both Rice and Putko are good runners so Wally's thought about seeing the both on the field at the same time isn't a fantasy.  Also, he's right to include Drake Christen as well.  While Drake is a WR, he led his high school team to a state championship in the largest division in Indiana as a quarterback.  In addition to being very good at catching passes, he can also run and pass quite effectively.

It would be fun to see all three on the field at once.

Wabash @ Hampden-Sydney -  Most of the Wabash team returns from last year's win.... Is their anyway the depleted Tigers keep it close?
Washington & Jefferson @ Wooster  -  Senior laden W&J have to make this their year.... Wooster still trying to figure it out.
Brockport State @ Oberlin  - Will the Golden Eagles be too much for Oberlin?
Wittenberg @ Capital -  Wittenberg has plenty to win... the question will be by how much?
Kenyon @ Sewanee -  Lords return much of its offense and most of their D... will it be enough on the road?
Allegheny @ Thiel  -   #227 vs. # 173.   Really anything can happen.
Westminster PA @ Hiram -  Terriers pretty much intact from the team that won this game last year...  Who will play QB is a big ?
Marietta @ Denison  -  Middle NCAC vs. Bottom OAC....  Does Denison find a QB?
Mary Hardin-Baylor @ Ohio Wesleyan - What does OWU gain from this game?

Go!
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Connor Rice: Situational Lefty.  There's some photoshop fun to be had with that.   :)

Also, Situational Lefty is my new favorite band name.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but is it pretty much a certainty that Putko and Rice will rotate this year?  I noticed both were voted captains which is obviously not normally seen.

Not knowing for sure.... this is what many/most of us believe is possible,  at least early on.

Putko and Rice alternated every series last weekend in the scrimmage in Wheaton.

I have been consistent in my message. Over three years Wabash has done less nationally than HSC. That does not mean Wabash is not a better team, or better program. It doesn't matter if I read other boards or nothing at all. The proof for this argument is in the numbers. Which everyone on this board must have seen on the ODAC board. But just in case a few of them aren't as avid readers as you assume:

The CURRENT Wabash and HSC Players

1 Wabash wins over HSC
27 Wabash wins
22 HSC wins
1 Wabash loss to a team with a losing record
2 HSC losses to teams with losing records
8 Wabash wins over teams who ended the season with winning a  record.
11 HSC wins over teams who ended the season with a winning record.
1 Years Wabash earned a playoff game
2 Years HSC earned a playoff game
1 Wabash playoff wins
1 HSC playoff wins
1 Wabash regular season wins against teams that made the playoffs
2 HSC regular season wins against teams that made the playoffs
0 Wabash NCAC championships
2 HSC ODAC championships
2 Wabash All-Americans (1 player)
4 HSC All-Americans (3 different players)

Bashdad whom I assume is exceptionally smart on all things DIII asked me a direct question. How does HSC win Saturdey? I gave a legit answer. The responses by these DIII brain surgeons included pictures of a pile of crap, a bad t-shirt design, a threat to start calling names, explanations on the mediocrity of HSC football, well wishers hoping Wabash pounds HSC, and rants that our program is a mirage. None of these fine gentlemen of great DIII knowledge offered anything but sophomoric BS to counter anything I wrote. Which I found very funny.

There's obviously no way that anybody is going to talk you away from this idea that HSC and Wabash have done the same things in the last three seasons.  But if you truly, honestly believe that 6-4, 9-3, and 7-4 is just as good as 8-2, 9-1, 10-2 you're just wrong.  You're just flat out wrong.  Your blind loyalty won't allow you to acknowledge it, but you're really, really wrong.  Really good teams in Division III don't lose 3-4 games every single year.  THESE Tigers have met that standard of mediocrity every single season.
