All that said, we agree that OWU played MH-B tougher than we thought they would.

Pertinent question here:

I just reviewed the UMHB-OWU box score, and it was actually 28-3 when Orsini (for whatever reason, injury or "save him for when we really need him") was removed from the game with about 8 min to play, down 28-3.  The backup QB threw 2 INT's within 5 minutes that led to a pair of touchdowns on 9-yard and 7-yard "drives" and turned it from "competitive-ish loss" into "blowout."  Point is, on closer examination that was a game that really was much closer than 42-3 shows...but if those last 2 INT's came because Orsini is hurt, that could spell trouble.

Also, I noticed that with 50 minutes to go, OWU was attempting a 34-yard FG to make the game 20-6.  Certainly not an indication that they were going to win the game if anything went differently, but they came close to making it a two-score game with 10 minutes to play, and probably with that missed FG the balloon finally popped and it fell apart after that.  I'm reaching pretty hard, but hey, I want to believe that OWU will be a legitimately interesting measuring-stick for the W's and a legitimate challenger to Denison and DePauw for the league bronze medal.

Edit: I typed all of that and didn't ask my question.  Was Orsini injured, or is he still healthy?
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Yep, Jenkins threw 8 picks v. W&J.  He also threw a total of 12, on 348 attempts, the entire season.  He threw none v. Wabash.  He was sacked 6X though in the Wabash game.  Just saying . . .

Yep... it was a bad day for him for sure.   I actually think has a good arm and has a very experienced group of receivers.   I watched the entire Capital game and;   he was pretty much right on the money when he needed to be.  He loves the deep middle and the flats.   I also believe  that Witt somewhat played down to Capital's level in that game.... sure the Triple Option sucks to defend....

Bottom line,  I think they are a good and dangerous team and will be anxious to see how the Bishops do against them...

Wabash needs to get good reps in this week,  work on their passing game and most importantly.....stay healthy

Lastly -    Coach Creighton and his EMU Eagles posted a big win on Saturday taking it to Wyoming in Laramie.  Congrats to CC!

Even in September, weather can become a factor in Meadville.  Early weather report for Saturday:  high of 80, 50% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. I don't want to sit through a 5 or 6 hour game.

Tartan, I do not beleve Orsini was hurt. Watts has used both QB's similiarly last year. Lacanaria got quite a few snaps.

So, I saw a crazy stat about the EMU game. They said it was their first non-conference win on the road since 1988. 1988! NINETEEN EIGHTY EIGHT. MCMLXXXVIII.

Glad to see CC is getting things done there.

EMU has been horrible since winning a bowl game in 1987 (and having their coach immediately 'stolen' by UC-Berkeley), but I cannot believe that stat.  They've played some truly bad teams since 1988 on the road - they must have won a couple.

No FIRM evidence that CC is getting it done yet - they are still a really, really bad team.  But it FEELS like they may be improving.  3-4 wins would cause dancing in the streets - except no one cares anymore.  Their attendance would be right in line with MIAA averages (they frequently GIVE away tickets, and the recipients don't bother to show up! :o)  I still feel that if anyone can get EMU relevant again it is CC, but it just might not be possible.

BashDad

I watched the game. And last week's against ODU. They are not really, really bad.

CC forever.

Perhaps I stuck in one to many 'really's', but they are a bad team.  I will be shocked (pleasantly!) if they win four games.  I'm disappointed to see they are not playing Buffalo and former UWW coach Lance Leipold this season.

Unfortunately we don't have future MAC schedules so we'll have to wait for a date on EMU vs. Buffalo: The Atonement.  I do hope that they give that game the Tuesday night MACtion slot that it deserves.

EMU does play Purdue in 2018.  And, if CC is still there, they'll win.  Book it.

BashDad and Wally:

Just as some additional FYI (although perhaps you already were aware of this) and with all due respect, Mr. Ypsi does know what he is talking about with regards to EMU, perhaps more than any of us (please know that I'm not saying either of you implied otherwise because you did not; rather I'm just stating/clarifying a fact).  He taught there for quite some time, so is highly knowledgeable about the history, atmosphere and basic underlying "mindset" with regards to EMU football.  We all agree (at least I think we do) that CC is a great coach and if anyone can possibly improve that program to a more respectable level, it would be him.  But EMU will never be able to rise to the level of some of the other MAC programs, unfortunately, just simply due to several factors unrelated to what is put on/done on the field.  I don't want them to ever discontinue the program and I don't think they will.  Yet as Ypsi says, it is an extremely difficult situation and challenge to face.

I remember about 6 years ago or so, one of my former Hope teammates's son was being recruited by some of the MAC teams.  His dad (who is a good friend of mine) related to me about his(their) recruiting trip there. After attending the game and on the drive home, he said to his dad..."dad, Hope College has more fans attending some of their games that EMU does-as I recall him relating, there were only about 1,000 fans at Rynearson Stadium for the EMU game (I don't remember who they were playing).  Hope College had outdrawn them for a couple of games (including Western Michigan) one year when Hope had about 3,000+ and the season ending games for those schools had about 1/2 that total.  Nonetheless, his son eventually ended up at Hope and had a stellar career.

All that said, I do think that CC has already made an impact and started some improvement (perhaps similar to Campbell at Toledo, although the latter is an entirely different type atmosphere at the school and on-campus for football).  Yet, it will still be a difficult task, but again, given what CC did at his two previous schools, he most likely has the best chance at doing so.  I wish him and EMU nothing but the best.

P.S.  Wyoming's coach came from NDSU and, of course, those fantastic consecutive FCS National Championships.  Still, I am somewhat baffled as to why he left such a great venue to go to Wyoming other than for a new challenge and perhaps feeling he could obviously not do anymore at NDSU (BTW, Wyoming's stadium only seats about 15,000 more than NDSU, although is not often full for games, unlike NDSU is.  But, again one is FBS, the other FCS. Anyway, some interesting general aspects, I guess.

Don't know about Wyoming's coach, but personal preference during leisure would be trout on the "Miracle Mile " of the Platte with a bronzed cowboy lookin' over my shoulder rather than dredging for Red River catfish in the shadow of a wood chipper... :o

Have to agree with Mr Ypsi's assessment as well after living in Washtenaw for fifteen years - uh, back in the dark ages.  If anyone can pull off a miracle, it's Coach Creighton but it appears some of the spirit was washed downstream during the spate of nickname and mascot "upgrades."  ;)

Hope your move went well and was uneventful (in a good way)!

Don't know whether you know but Tony Neymeiyer (Wabash all world center from a couple of years ago) ... is an assistant of CC's with regard to the O line.  Tony has me keep him updated as to Wabash football happenings and bleeds deep blood red.  Would love to see Tony back at the 'Bash helping ER at some point when the time is right.
