I would say that NCC was lucky to score.  I think on three of the fumbles there was no contact..just drops.  Caps D made big hits all day and played without two starters in the secondary.  Caps d shut down MU for 3 quarters, shut down ONU and shut down a National player of the year candidate I would say that is pretty good.  Everyone is saying that NCC QB had a bad day, how about some credit to Caps defense.  They held a team ave 40 to 19 and gave them 5 turnovers to work with.

Good health to both teams and may the PURPLE come out on top

Adding to what everyone else has previously posted on this topic, if I may...I didn't think you were being sarcastic.  Your question is indeed a legitimate one.  But I think aueagle said it best..."this is the NCAA..." and they do make some very strange decisions.  I agree with you that why the difference in the two examples?  As I recall, the DI hockey and lacrosse programs already established at schools that had been playing DIII football for a long time were given this special exemption or "grandfather rule" last year for those sports only (i.e. Johns Hopkins, Union, etc.).  While Dayton (or Drake or Valpo, etc) were not given that option years ago (as Ric nicely outlined the history of that scenario) i.e. they had gone to DIII football but were mandated to go to DIAA because of the DI in all other sports; that just shows the somewhat paradox in the decision in one sense.

Obviously, some will argue, that like Pat says, there is the difference between the sports themselves that would allow that, or make it seem logical.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that, it seems easier that a track athlete would be more likely to play/excell at football too (i.e. Dayton example) as opposed to playing both hockey and football at a school (Johns Hopkins or Union), although not necessarily (perhaps tennis vs. football is a better ??? or more extreme example! ::)  However,  in regards to a seemingly contradictory rule as you allude to,  it doesn't make sense to me how they have the rule now, other than it does deter the disadvantage in regards to the scholarship issues as happened way back when with Dayton.  That being said, on the other hand, I'm glad they allowed schools like JH and Union to keep their long established DI lacrosse and hockey programs yet continue DIII football programs.  Guess I'm being paradoxical also. ;D   Anyway, hope my comments make sense.  This has been discussed before on the various boards, yet, in MO, it is always an interesting topic as everyone always have some good comments on it, supporting the pros and cons.

I that was my exact point.

"My point is while mutual opponets can give some indication of two teams relative strengths, often times they prove fruitless.  Another point is that I really enjoy reading my own type. (emphasis added)"

First Down,

I'll never forget that day.  But Depauw was still a very good team that year and the year after that and the year after that...

Once again the Wabash stream craps out and I'm forced to listen to the visiting stream. This is starting to annoy me.

C'mon Little Giants!
