Well, this year's standings would do so as well.

Raeburn was a finalist for the Whitewater job last year, which I presume means he will at least pick up the phone and listen if another program calls.

At some point, a D1 is going to call him if they haven't already. Just based on the direction the D1 hiring cycle is going. Awfully nice to be able to add a digit to the salary.

But, as a counterpoint, we're still seeing a lot of guys who are just comfortable where they're at. Had a really good convo with New Pal HS's coach about this a few months ago. When you've got a great spot with great support, facilities, and bosses, why would you leave? Wabash has all those things. At what point is the uncertainty worth the money? That's a different answer for every coach.

All the Whitewater thing proved is that Raeburn will respond if UWW calls. Have to assume the same for Mount Union. But any other D-III school?

I agree with this. Applying for UWW is different than answering the phone for any old DIII. I don't know anything about Coach R but I'm guessing he'd be selective about leaving Wabash. I would be! That is a darn good job.

Pat, don't get me wrong -- I'm happy for Hiram's success, especially at the expense of some of those others, but this is maybe the first time in ... oh, forever ... that you could support that.  Your comment just made me chuckle.  I felt like you were referring to some longer term, programmatic stature, and Hiram right now is just a blip.  For as long and hard as some teams need to fight for credibility on here, that's a pretty kind comment for a team whose last winning season was 1988.
It's either a thoughtful comment or smartass sarcasm. Recognize the difference.

But Hiram was in the same position last year -- top of the bottom of the NCAC. It's a two-year thing.

SJU fan with long time ties to the program dropping by here. I've read some of the chatter and am going to be interested to see how this game will play out. I've never seen Wabash play this year, so I can't comment on how they might do. I will say this (and I am sure you've heard this plenty).... UST is really, really good. Especially their defense. I really felt like in our rematch game with them, we'd be able to get something going offensively, given the way our offense had evolved after we lost to them the first time. But UST had us on our heels again, especially once they got a multi score lead on us.

I am torn as to what I'd like to see. I fancied SJU to be a Top 5 or Top 10 team this year, and they had a very good season. The two drubbings by UST certainly put a damper on things. If UST continues to roll, my original thoughts of SJU's relative strength will be intact. On the other hand, if UST loses, well that is never a bad thing in the mind of a Johnnie, but it would lead to questions about how good SJU was or wasn't this year and how far away we might be from truly contending for a national title again.

And there will be a lot of movement with all the HC openings in FBS.

There are position coaches making $200k at P5 schools in Texas. That's a lot of dinero.

They scored the 2nd most points in history of US high school football in 2014, including 83 in the state title game. It's insanity.

Alex Neligh had an incredible game.  The first quarter fumbles were unfortunate and ultimately costly.  But what a great game to watch.
