There was no bias there (if anything, the OAC crowd is biased against Wabash)...

Wally I don't often agree with you but I think you are correct in this parenthetical statement.

Also I think the reason in your one trip to MUC that the Mount fans  (who are not generally very loud anyway) was that they were spoiled and that game was typical at the time they got a big lead early and there wasn't much to get excited about.

I appreciate the response but you are confusing two seperate blasphemous comments by two totally seperate OACers.  The comment Wally and I were talking about was that "CAP could have scored more against Wabash if they played as well on O as they did against MUC".  That was the one that started the name-calling.  You are referring to the moron from Capital that believes "CAP was holding something back against NCC and BASH as if they had more in the tank but just didn't feel the need to 'open the offense up'".  The latter statement was ridiculous and should annoy anyone that reads it because it's just plain stupid.

You know about journalism.  And if you think people remember or note the meat of a paragraph versus one-line zingers, then I can't reason with you on that subject.  And since it won't do me any good continuing this line of discussion as this attitude I refer to is either non-existant or at the very least deserved becuase it is spurred by discourteous OAC posters, then I suppose it would be best to drop it after this.  Honestly though, if you think "OAC posters go out of their way to dump on Wabash/NCAC in general" then you have your priorities out of whack.  Wabash is a blip on most OAC fans' radar screens at best because as mentioned before there are no rivalries, recruiting wars, etc. and the first time we have to worry about them would be the playoffs.  If you do think OAC posters go out of their way to dump on Wabash, then your opinion of Wabash's relative place in the universe is too high.  I don't suspect that the Little Giant faithful care much about ONU.  I just wish you realized the opposite could be true for OAC fans regarding Wabash or the NCAC in general.  As I said before, the hypersensitivity makes for an easy target.  Wanna rile some people up?  Go over to the NCAC page, type one semi-heinous comment and watch the s#1t start rolling downhill...that's what many of the so-called offenders know about the subject.  They know it doesn't take much to get under the skin of you guys.  Case in point, if reccespynav said, "If Cap would have played like they did against us as they did against ONU, they could have put up 40," you would have a quick argument between the corresponding schools and a couple good jabs, not Hooter's-laced, military-attacking, name-calling, mud-slinging quarrels involving a dozen posters as was the case here.

OK I think I am done.  At least this gave me somthing to check up on this  afternoon.  Wally, I will always respect your admiration for your school along with the fan support from everyone at Wabash.  I hope that I represent and defend ONU as fervently as the Little Giant faithful support their team.  Best wishes.

rcp escalated that...his snide comment brought on a couple of posts pointing out his ignorance (it was an ignorant statement...as has been pointed out, he didn't even see the Capital/Wabash game and had no frame of reference...the assumption he made, which is what ticked people off, is that Wabash and NCC ought not be in the same conversation as the OAC and the only reason those games were close is because Capital played poorly).  It wasn't enough to say, "man, Capital is playing great today."  He had to go the extra mile and pile on NCC and Wabash.  It wasn't necessary and it was disrespectful.  That's why it was a problem.

As for the rest of it, I don't think anybody took a shot at anybody's military service (really, whether or not anybody involved served shouldn't have even been in play, but that card was thrown out on the table).  I personally know the other gentlemen involved in that little exchange, and neither would intentionally take shots at somebody's military service.  The Hooters joke was just funny (it was funny!) and if a guy doesn't want his daughter to be part of the conversation, then he shouldn't have even put it in play.  The name calling was done by rcp in response to the karma hit he took after saying something stupid.  And really, he should have expected that.  It shouldn't be shocking that guy is going get to smote a few times when he openly rips on two teams he never saw play.

Again, most of this is sparked when the OAC fans post down their nose at the have-nots in the North region (which, if you're keeping score, happens to be EVERYBODY not in the OAC).  When that stops, this will go away.  Several people on this board from several fan bases have gone a long way to squash any sort of academic card play from NCAC posters toward OAC posters...that seems to be the thing that ruffles the OAC's feathers.  We're doing our part.  I would hope that yourself and some of the other right-thinking OACers would spot the sort of unnecessary jabs that people take at the NCAC and call people out on it.

In any case, this has been good discussion I think.  I hope we both (and everybody reading this thread actually) have a better understanding of what's driving some of the vitriol.

Quote from: reality check on December 08, 2005, 11:50:52 AMMany OAC'ers think that they are equally overrated year-in and year-out. And you know as well as I do that until they get a W in the win column in the playoffs over an OAC foe, that mentality will continue to exist.....

.......It is as if the Little Giants suffer from "little man syndrom" or something where they always feel they have to prove their worth, and fight against the entire world.

reality check,

The former seems to justify the latter. I agree with you that there is a "kneejerk" tendency from Wabash fans to take things as a slight. But we can't also pretend those slights don't happen. It's not like we didn't want to beat Cap, or MUC in 2002. We did. And we were disappointed when we lost. Is that wrong?

Besides, if Wabash Always Fights, then that means we have to be fighting someone. ;)

One more thing:

I was listening to NPR on my drive home tonight and heard this story. It's about a high school in Michigan that hasn't won a football game in two years. There's a line in there about cheering for first downs because they hadn't scored in 5 games. Anyway, I thought it was interesting because these kids must love playing football.

Maybe it was confusing but the quotation you cite, at least the top part, was referring to Wittenberg not Wabash.  I am sorry if that came off as unclear.

Regarding Wabash always fighting, you can always fight amongst yourselves  ;)...that works for us OAC fans to weed out the obligatory morons from each of our individual institutions.  Sure it's fun to pick on other schools (ie. WITT) but it's even better when you can watch fans from the same school square off.

rc

thanks for clearing that up. i didn't understand.

wabash fans are really not different from fans of other schools. we do tend to disagree. i've had disagreements with more than a few wabash posters here. but when metal hits the meat we're all on the same side.

you won't get rid of us that easily, rc.  ;)

by the way, the phenomenon you speak of, wabash fans thinking the world revolves around wabash, is not exclusive to football. my coworkers at my office make fun of my devotion to all things wabash. it's all good, right?

Congatulations to all the players who were chosen to the All Region teams. After looking at the list I was fortunate enough to see a lot of these players play this year, what an outstanding team these players would make on the field. Wouldn't it be great if they would take these players and have an Allstar game and square off against the other regions? I think that would be pretty cool. Comments?

My wife has always said that Wabash men have the fiercest loyalty to their school that she's ever seen - and that's not just for sports. It's for everything, and its every generation.

Question:

Does anyone have the non-conference schedules for the NCAC in 2006? I know Wabash is playing Franklin and Millikin (along with guess who) in '06 and '07, before the UAA agreement.

Congrats to Russ Harbaugh for being named first-team all North region QB by D3football.com.

Congrats to Cisco Clervoix for being named fist team all North region DT by D3football.com.

Congats to Adrian Pynenberg for being named second team all North region, and to Tristan Murray, Rick Drushal, Frank Roe, and Kyle Sherman for being named third team all North region.

RC,

I stand corrected.  In catching up reading the posts, I guess I mixed up the conversations.  I apologize.

77StaggBowl,

If you are just going to come in here and make comments about your hatred towards Witt, you can just wait another year before you post again.  We already have Wally.  We don't need another one.  Come with something relevant, or don't come at all.  We've already had the "classy" discussion several times and we do not need to repeat it.

I only go to see Russ play one game as well as Knis from NCC (both in the playoffs) and I think they got those two right. Russ seem to handle the pressure a little better and was more accurate under the pressure. Congats on an outstanding season.

Smeds...I took a gander at the Woo web page for the non-con schedule, and do I have some good news to some of you folks.  Well, I hope good news.  If woo comes to play next season as some of us Woo posters believer its Great news!  Here is the Woo Schedule, 9/2 John Carroll, 9/9 Waynesburg, 9/23 Case, 9/30 Witt, 10/7 @ OWU, 10/14 @ Hiram, 10/21 Gheny, 10/28 @ Bash, 11/4 The Quake , 11/11 @ Kenyon.

This is the second year Woo is playing an OAC team.  I thought that was interesting in regards to our recent discussion over OAC NCAC.  This will also mark a point when Woo is not playing a bottom feeder of the conference.  This year's No. 5 of the NCAC and No. 4 of the OAC.  Should be a good match up.  That is, if both teams can have a good rebuilding off season.

Let's Go Woo!!
