Safe to assume that this bakes in a loss to Butler as a certainty for Wabash?

That game is ignored. Non-DIII games are only a secondary criteria, and I don't think a computer model can give a very good projection for that sort of game.

OBERLIN YEOMEN  (0-10 in '22)
Pre-Season Coaches' Poll:  9th
Starters Retruning:  O--7     D--6
All-Conference Returning:  Harris DB (3)
OOC Games:  Kalamazoo (3-7 in '22), Concordia-Chicago (6-4 in '22).  Concordia replaces Alvernia.  Oberlin lost their OOC games last year by a total of 10 points, and then ran out of steam in the conference.
OUTLOOK:  It's hard to see where and how the Yeomen can improve this year.  Each year, they seem to start an inexperienced line up.  The entire OL returns as a starting point.  Both sides of the ball must significantly improve for OBE to get into the win column in '22.  For both the good of the NCAC and for their own good they have to make some progress.

It's a new day at Oberlin.  Things got a little squidgy with the Yeomen toward the end of last season, using 12 minute quarter clocks to move things along.  I counted 72 on Oberlin's 2023 roster just now, which I hope is a positive sign for their ability to play 10 complete regulation games.

Just to clear a couple of things up, they play Concordia-Chicago who was 7-3 last year. I believe the original poster is referring to The University of Chicago. Also Oberlins all-conference player Harris is no longer on the team and transferred schools. I believe it may have been a typo Wally, but the Oberlin team only has 62, which is still among one of the largest Oberlin teams in the last 20 years. This is in part because the administration has ever so slightly allowed the football team to recruit more players. Up until 2021, Oberlin was only allowed 14 students athletes per class(with D3 attrition rates senior classes would end up with 5 players) finally with the last coach they allowed a class of 31, but then quickly reduced that number to near 20. The Oberlin administration has kept a stranglehold over most athletic teams for quite some time. But, to avoid pointing fingers the Oberlin team needs to become more competitive, it will be quite interesting to see how a new QB and a how a year of development can hopefully help the online gel together. I'm not gonna hold my breath, but I just dont want to see anymore shortened games.

It's clear Heidelberg is much better than us... but I'm happy we're playing tough competition. Seeing little wins against a team that's likely going to play a close game with JCU and Mount will make this team - and program - better off.

Watched the first half of Heidleberg/Hiram and it was rough for the Terriers.

The OL was pushed around handily and their defense looked pretty lax. Heildberg probably averaged 12 yards a run in the first half. The QB is intriguing but we will see how he progresses through the year.

Yep - I'd say up front they averaged 3" and 30 lbs more than us. Hiram showed some glimpses, though - and honestly I'm happy we scheduled such a tough opponent, despite the score. That's likely going to be the best team we play all year - no disrespect to the other posters on here lol.

Also, how about Heidelberg's TE!?!? 6'7" 250 and a pretty good athlete!

The knock on D3 football has usually been there are few kickers in D3 capable of winning a game on long field goals. True or false? Anyone remember a kicker winning a game with time running out? I have seen more unsuccessful attempts than game winners. Does D3 not recruit for that position?

Who in the world cares about D3 kickers?
It's either a thoughtful comment or smartass sarcasm. Recognize the difference.

We do.  Last year Jeffery Isotalo-McGuire kicked a 49 yard field goal as time expired to give UW-W a 30-27 win over UW-River Falls.

Yes, they were stout on both sides of the ball. TE was a stud. The OAC is different. Think Wabash's offense and Depauw's defense will be salty and the best O/D in the conference. Put together they'd be competitive with H-Berg.

Congratulations Little Giants. Really hard to play after a super long road / bus trip, so well done.
