Wabash Always Fights!

formerd3db

smeds:
I saw one of your posts over on the bb board from a month or so ago regarding the DIII vs. DI bb games and history of the same.  I indeed remember when Wabash's coach in the '70's routinely scheduled their team on a south and west trip to play DI's.  That year in particular you listed with the teams was featured in an article in Sports Illustrated that year.  As I recall, the coach said he knew that they would get blown out (like in their own conference so it wouldn't make any difference i.e. might as well get blown out by the big guys and have a blast doing it! - or something to that effect  :o I still have a copy of the article I saved but it is buried somewhere in my collection boxes and don't have access to it right now).

But he felt it was a great experience for his players.  Anyway, I don't want to rehash all the issues and discussion that you and the others had, but will just say that I personally have no problem with DIII's playing a DI early in the season if they want to; for the same reasons I gave in a similar discussion about fb teams playing other levels and including the MAC vs. Big Ten.  I agree with some of the others about a great experience it is (including the one player who posted his opinion about playing Marquette).  The big schools are expected to win anyway, so it shouldn't matter in all aspects including the power rankings if the people who regulated that where honest with themselves and made it be viewed realistically in that regard.  That's the way it should be; just my opinion. ;D  Anyway, thanks for the great discussion on that and sorry I missed it and am late in responding! (sorry also for posting it here on the fb board!)  Hope you are doing well.

Some recruiting information:

I heard that Rusty Dalfares has narrowed down his choices to Kenyon, Washington & Lee, or Sewanee.  He's a 5' 11" 210 pound guard from Colton High School in Richmond, KY.  His team finished 4th in district 8-2A with a 4-6 record and the offense rushed for over 800 yards on the season.  When the local newspaper asked him what interested him in the schools, he said "I want to be a doctor one day, and all three schools have really good academic reputations.  Plus, they're small schools so I think I could probably play a lot.  It will all come down to which school I like the best when I visit."

I also heard that David Wymer, 5' 10" 159 pound receiver from the Gaston Day School in Gastonia, NC is either going to Allegheny or Wabash.  Wymer had 16 catches last year for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns while playing in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Conference for the state semifinalists.  He also had 6 tackles and one fumble recovery playing linebacker.  He says he likes Allegheny because of the girls, but he says that Wabash plays on TV every year and thinks that will give him a better shot at the NFL.

Lastly, Evan Zimmerman has never played organized football because he was home schooled.  However, he said he was "really good when he played with his friends at the Y."  He has committed to OWU and he plans on playing quarterback.  He's 5'9", 186 pounds and he's from Dayton.

TU,

Are you serious on those last two?  And if so, where did you get this info?

Look guys.  I don't joke about non-scholarship prospects.
See for yourself- it's in the small schools series of Football Star magazine.  It's a monthly publication, only about 20-30 pages, and they only run it from March through December.  I'm surprised you've never heard of it.  The May double issue has the complete cap of d-3 recruiting every year.  I think it's three years old.  You can usually get it at Tyler's newsstand, a national chain that is only located in about half the states.  I make a monthly trip to Clinton, MS to get it.

I have to assume they've got one somewhere around Columbus, what with all the d3 schools in the area.

btw-  the Evan Zimmerman bit isn't unusual.  When I was a freshman at OWU we had one guy that was in the exact same situation.  He didn't last a week.  I can't even remember anything about him except that he was Asian and the other qbs said he had a good arm.

Ok, well assuming you are serious, there is one problem.  His stellar senior year statistics notwithstanding, what type of area is the second guy from in NC if he is interested in Allegheny for the "girls?"  Wow, I don't think I want to know.

He probably finds beauty in ladies' hearts more so than in their appearances.  Whatever the case may be, the selection for heterosexual males is better at Allegheny without a doubt.  Actually, throw all of the NCAC schools in ther with Denison being the exception.   :o

This gives me an idea.  I'm going to write a book listing all the ridiculous delusions that incoming collegiate student-athletes have.  I wonder if there's a true market for that.  Anybody got any stories

How many people besides Wabash/Depauw alumni watch this game? Really? And of those how many are NFL scouts? ???

Congrats to Coach Todd Glaser on his new post at UW-Eau Claire. I had the chance to speak with him at Marietta; the guy is a class act and helped the Pioneers to elevate their program. He will be missed in the OAC & Marietta. Unofficially, Ohio Wesleyan can not confirm nor deny any Zimmerman sightings.  A  5'9" QB without any HS experience - I hope Coach "H" can recruit better than that. GO BISHOPS

L'il: When and if indicated, the NFL scouts will cover. That includes a game between East Jibuti State and The Little Sisters of the Poor.

Not sure what you mean.  I know I did have a conversation with him in which he swore he didn't kill anyone.  It was kind of weird.

What kind of magazine are you reading? You must have leak in your exhaust system and are getting high on your drive into Clinton for reading material. A 5'11" 210 lb guard from a school with a so-so record better get into the weight room.  It is admirable that he wants to get a good education in order to  go to med school, but at 210 lbs., he will get eaten alive.  The fellow from Gastonia that's his making his choice of schools based on girls and exposure to NFL scouts doesn't merit a response.  Finally, while there is nothing wrong with home schooling, deciding to play based on sand lot football is nutty.  I assume your posts are a joke.
