Jim Sorgi is a starting QB for the Indianapolis Colts.  Didn't he start against Arizona last season?

The DPU release is misleading, that is my point, not a big deal.

Pat Coleman

If it said "has started in the NFL" then it would be accurate. Anyone getting misled is reading something into it that isn't there.

Change the subject??  This is way more juicy than Witt's recruiting class....most of which probably aren't going to see the field this year anyway.  Of course, if a lot of those recruits are going to play this year, well, Witt football has slipped farther than I think any of us thought.

I too am enjoying the rotating door of Greendingle, but I do have a lot of respect for Matt Walker.

Matt has proven he is a winner on the baseball diamond.  Does this mean he will have success on the gridiron.  Not at all.  It does show that he has a strong coaching background.  I think DPU could do much worst.  They have proven that the last few years.  Maybe they can't let go of Coach Nick.  Maybe all of these coachs are tired of being in his shadow.

My son was recruited by both schools.  He had, and still does have a special bond with Matt Walker.  He chose the best school for himself, and it does not reside in Greendingle.  Does he have the hatred of DPU? 100%  With that being said, he does want the best for Matt Walker. As always.

Rogers email to his assistant coashes: "... However my relationship with specific members of the administration has been strained thus leading to the decision."

Must be REALLY strained ... to cause a separation in mid June.  These type communications ... not your "person reasons" type bail out ... throw it out in the public and are intended to do so: "Dear assistants whom I recruited ... Attention ... the A_ _ _ _ _ _ _ drove me out."

Must be a real interesting cluster discussion in the Greendingle football coaches pod now.  Who can get to the copy machine and fax machine quickest with the resumees.  They really got dicked.  Will there be secondary explosions / separations to follow?

on the SCAC board it was stated that the Depauw administration plays a big role in the selection of assistant coaches...is that normal for D3?...

according to the local paper, Coach Walker does not sound like an "interim" coach to me...3 new assistants are staying put...it also stated that he was the local hs baseball coach...the guy must run on all cylinders...

benbraddock

no, the dpu head baseball coach

scotty

it said he was also the head coach for the Crawsfordsville Eagles baseball team...isn't that the high school...

benbraddock

oh sorry, that's a summer team for college players i believe...but not a high school team

scotty

gotcha...is there any coach in D3 that does both football and baseball...that would have to be a challenge imo but...

I don't think there's any coaches at reasonably sized athletic departments, though there might be some at the Principia/Blackburn-type level.

However, at St. John's, the baseball coach is the football defensive coordinator and I am sure there are other individuals with similar dual roles which both require heavy lifting.

Pat,
At Earlham Tom Parkevich is Head baseball and DC.  Nick Johnson is Head Track and assistant football.
