The OldGuy--Wally feud sounds like a fight I had with my brother when I was 5.  You started...no you started it!!!  I obviously was not there whatever day it was but I am guessing both sides were not saints that day.  Lets's face it...there is not a lot of love for teams you play year after year.  Just hate the team and move on.  There is no reason to explain why or what happened to cause your disdain.  I for one am for programs with class but you need the competive hate to make the sport fun anyway you slice it and dice it.  Its football...not tidlywinks.

The season should be here sooner than you know it. I will be interested in reading the Woo preview when it comes out to see how they stack up this year.  They have some great players at some key postions but I don't know about some areas across the board  They better bring in a big class this year or it could be curtains since the last few classes have been pretty bare.

Well said Lancer.

The subject will be dropped by me.

No problem Oldguy.

It seems that a few times each year select fans startup the old we're Wabash and nobody respects us sob story so you have to defend yourself.

A program earns respect over a period of time through winning, class, and many other factors.  Witt most definetly has done that with there resume despite the past few years.  I believe they will be back.

I still find it hard that some people on here love to pound Witt rivarly hating aside.  Look at the facts WITHIN the conference.  Yes there were 5-5 last year and they were pretty bad in the beginning, but didn''t they go to the wire with the conference champ and damn near beat them?  If one of Wabash's best teams in recent years is struggling to beat one of Witt's worst teams in years,..maybe ever....I wouldn't be so quick to criticize.

wally_wabash

It's not everybody that doesn't respect the Bash, it's pretty much just Witt.  And I know it's not all of them, but it's a pretty sizeable portion based on my experience.

The final score of the game vs. Wabash doesn't mean a thing.  Rivalry games (and you're fooling yourself at this point if you don't think there is a little something extra involved when Witt and Wabash lock horns) tend to be close more often than not regardless of win/loss records (ignoring completely the fact that Witt was playing pretty good football during that stretch of the season).  I wouldn't go as far as to say Wabash "struggled" to beat Witt last year...it was a well played game between two pretty good teams and the better team came out on top.

So much talk about earning the right to say or do such and such...Wabash has two NCAC championships (including the most recent one) since the last time Witt stood atop our little mountain.  It's been earned.  How many championships does Wabash have to win before they've earned it?  How many years in a row does Witt have to go 5-2 in NCAC play before you guys stop worshipping them?

Just more hearts and minds guys.  Love the fact Wabash has to qualify their own conference championship as the absolute value signs around a Witt hiatus from the crown.

Playing pretty good football?  Trust this, Witt wasnt sticking the chest out so proud about felling some defensive records against Hiram.

The final score doesnt count for anything?  Well then, Ted Knight to Chevy Chase, "how do you measure yourself against other men?"  Chevy, "Well, Im about six feet tall."  Thought the game sounded even closer than the score listening to it via the web.

Think the real measure of the two teams is more the common opponent in Capital.  On the scoreboard, Wabash was in much better standing than Witt, but for as close as the score was for Wabash against Capital, the game didnt sound so close during play by play, so maybe thats a wash.

Wouldnt go so far as to call last years Witt team one of the worst ever either.  That team had a lotta sack to stepup and play that schedule before opening conference play.  Recordwise, not so hot, but the big HC arrived in Springfield amidst such a record.

Its still just war and not an actual feud, but there is some sport developing.  After all, war is for protection, huntings for sport.

Maleod,

You should be ashamed.  Despite all the football talk you absolutely butchered that line from Caddyshack.

TK says "then how do you emasure your self agaisnt other golfers"

Wally, that might be the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time.   If the final score doesn't mean anything then let's just not keep score at the games this year and then let's crown a champion based on who we think the best team is.  That system would work great!!

Also, try to suger coat it all you want but the bottom line is it was a one touchdown game and one little bounce for Witt and they are walking out winners.  So again look at the facts and don't try to spin something that's not there.  Was Wabash the better team? Absolutely.  But not by a huge margin.

The only point I am trying to make is the margin between Wabash and Witt, at the end of last year, is not even close to being as wide as you indicate or would like it to be.  That game alone vindicates it regardless of the rivarly bs or not.

This is my last post on the issue. :)

oldguy

Wally,

You are definitely looking through your Bash Blinders on this one.  No one "worships" Witt in this conference, especially on this board.  Lancer is just pointing out some of you Bashers (mainly you) seem to pound on Witt constantly regardless.  You will complain when Witt gets some pre-season votes, and you will complain when Witt gets shown any sort of respect by fans from other teams.  And then you start saying how Wabash is getting dealt the short hand.  It does get old.

I seriously doubt Lancer, and the rest of the NCAC fans on here "worship" any other school, much less Witt.

Lancer98 - no comments on my Wabash/DePauw recruiting breakdown?  Next time I will not waste the time in addressing your comments.  I was hoping someone would push back and say, no, DPU has held their own in recruiting against Wabash...

Oldguy - no comment on Lackey - one of Witt's incoming linebackers?

Joel, was doing some creative editing there, but considering the prohibition on ever watching Caddyshack sober, well lets just say, didnt even remember Chevys characters name.  Thought it was Fletch.

Just to make up for it Id like to order two whole fried chickens, toast - dry, and a Pepsi - no ice.

You Wittenberg/Wabash squabblers are a disgrace.  What really makes me sick is that one of you two could run the table in conference this year since you don't have to play Kenyon.  The Lords are coming on strong, and I really don't think that either the Witt Kittens or the Wabash Little Ants could stay on the field with them anymore.  Gosh, the thought of making it to championship status by ducking the best team is offensive.  So quit your squabbling and remember that you're both lucky to have favorable schedules.   Whoever fumbles least on 10/14 will have a shot at bragging rights while Kenyon plays a real schedule.

What I would like to find is the lines to Belushi in the alley (from Blues Brothers) when he gives the whole line of excuuses for why  he hadn't got back to his girlfriend as she stands over him with a gun in his face.  one of the lines is the sun was in my eyes! but I can't remember the rest

BB16,

Sorry to disappoint.  It sounds from your post that DePauw is not even in the picture for most recruits nowadays when it comes to Wabash.  I was just curious if the rivarly extended to recruiting like OSU-Michigan in many cases.  As far as Wooster, we have tons of competition.  BW, Mount, Witt, JC, Ashland are some just to name a few.  There are just too many good schools in northern Ohio we have to go against.  I know we lose many recruits simply to OAC schools because they are usually a little cheaper and their programs are obviously very competive.  I like to think we have them in the education though.  ;)

Are the educations similar?  I assume DePauw is highly sought academically as well.

I wonder why they don't try to move to the NCAC....or maybe we don't want them.  :D  They would be a logical choice and would give us two tams making a west and east division
