Darkside-D, what i observed at Wooster last year was the tendency to make the "stand up, physical, jar the ball loose" kind of tackle esp from the olb and secondary...is that a trend or an anomoly...

McLeod - the fact that most of the women staff use the facility as well, as well as my wife, means your statement is inaccurate.  The point is that a facility should be open to all and not segregated to one specific group. That's elitism. You'd be surprised at who does weight training.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

     Darkside-D,

Good point about fundamentals, without ability and effort, all the drill in the world will not take hold. Not to poke fun at any specific team or year, but at the age of 45 I could have stuck my nose in the mess better than some of those kids in purple. I agree there are people on the hill, who don't want a program, but if coach Stanley continues to get support, they will become an upper tier team in the NCAC. And a program at Kenyon just means 65-75 players and the financial support, in package form to get them in .But I'm sure those of you who have seen the Kenyon program in the last ten years, understand my excitement. I just want the  improvement to continue, Witt, Wabash gheny, wooster, owu top 5.The Lords could duplicate because of the start of there  schedule, if they can win the first 3, seven wins might happen. Sure is great to talk football, softball is already boering!

As to who does weight training?  Cmon get real.  Thought we discussed the difference between working out and training.  Witts new gym is for the masses.  All it did was relieve the population from the old gym, hardly eltiism.  The football team didnt get a new weightroom, the student body did.  Sounds like they were catering more to Buffy Chet and your wife.

Elitism?  Did you you reallly sling that hash on the NCAC page.

best regards,

I have a compromise- Only ugly girls allowed in the football weight room

frank uible

If the weight room is ugly enough (i.e. no mirrors, no chrome, no color scheme, no cardio machines, no pastel-colored leotards or other colorful workout suits allowed, lots of sweating on the equipment, no ventilation to clear farts and certain other smells,  etc.), then almost all the girls, both male and female, will stay away.

Frank,

And it will drive the recruits away as well.

frank uible

Recruits who are driven away by an ugly but effective weight room probably will not do the weight work (irrespective of the beauty or other nature of their weight room) necessary to perform when things become very difficult and the pressure is on.

You can't blame an 18 year old kid for wanting to workout in a nice facility or play in a nice stadium on Saturday afternoons.  I disagree that that kid is petty or "soft" because of that.  Now I have never been to Mount Union's stadium but I have heard that it was nothing to brag about as far as D III standards go.  So success on the field is not all based on facilities, however, I am a firm believer that it does help.  I'm sure all of you would want you're son to play ball at a place that has some of the best facilities there are to offer.  Just something to think about...

If I were an 18 year old kid and was worried about aesthetic appeal when choosing where to attend college and play football, I think I would have chosen Denison.  The campus, the facilities, and the women are beautiful, case closed.  Yet, well I don't have go into Denison's recent football history.

Aesthetics are far less appealing than the leadership to a kid with football dreams.  In the pre-Barnes era, Wooster was beautiful and pathetic in football.  As soon as they got some decent leadership, good things started happening in recruiting.
