Wally, you started throwing rocks at Kenyon based on your assumptions about the scheduling process.  Yeesh, yourself

You've completely misinterpreted my posts on the subject...never was I picking on Kenyon.  You will (and apparently have) read whatever it is you want to read into it.  I'm done belaboring this point with you.

Is Don Juan Brown the likely starter at RB for Wabash, or is there someone else in the mix? Will the offense be any different with Huff at QB?

It will be interesting to see if Wooster runs the spread offense again this year. I think it is useful at times, but every down, not so useful.

wally_wabash

RB would seem to be the thin spot for Wabash.  As of right now I'd expect DJB to be the #1 tailback, but he's had a history of injury problems so you don't want to rely on just the one guy.  You might see Wabash move an extra body or two over from the defensive side of the ball to help out there.  Also I've heard good things about incoming freshman Evan Sobecki.  He may be seeing significant carries before the end of the season.

Either way, I'm sure CC will pull a rabbit out of his hat and piece together something resembling an effective running game.

This was brought up a couple of weeks ago, but I don't think there was much response to it. Wooster apprently has run a traditionally physical camp, which has often led to some injuries, even if most are not very serious. Any thoughts on this topic? Is it necessary to pound on each other to get physically ready for the season? Are you better off sacrificing some contact to protect players, or is that counter-productive?

wally_wabash

My guess is that you find successful teams on both sides of the coin, seinfeld.  Gagliardi's non-contact practices at St. Johns are well known and they have had a wee bit of success.  If you were to take a poll of the top 10 or so programs in the country, you'll probably find a pretty wide range of camp philisophies.

If Wooster can look at their practices in training camp and point to that as the biggest contributor to subpar seasons, then they should probably think about changing it up.  But Wooster has started well lately...Wooster is 12-0 in September in the last four years.  By the time Wooster starts losing games, you're in to the portion of the season where the injury factor has leveled itself out a bit.  If there's a significant injury problem that is costing Wooster games, it would seem to be happening later in the season rather than sooner and that's probably a product of bad luck more than it is being too aggressive in training camp.

Normally I wouldn't hold a conference schedule against a team, but in this case Kenyon isn't playing Wittenberg or Wabash by their own doing so it is a little different.

If I misinterpreted this comment I apologize.  I'm done with it too.

wally, i believe the Wabash faithful will be very pleased with Sobecki...durable, quick and great football IQ...look to utilize him out of the backfield as he has great hands and no fear taking a shot after the catch...

seinfeld, too physical imo but who knows...as i stated a few weeks ago, just make sure the equipment guy fits the helmets properly...i prefer my qb not taking so many shots...

Just to clarify that comment, I was simply saying that Kenyon's current situation, per my belief, is what it is in large part because they didn't play a conference schedule in '03.  They did so because the program was on life support and that was the best way for them to step back and regroup a bit.  So far it's working, but the effects of the move are still being felt today.  The rampant skepticism toward Kenyon is a byproduct of all of this, but that's part of what goes along with completely reviving a program.  I'm actually a bit in awe of Kenyon to go from having a team of less than 30 players to 6-1 in just two years...I don't want you to miss that point.  The earlier comment wasn't meant to slight Kenyon in any way, but was just pointing out that this is the road Kenyon took voluntarily.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

cwru .... what was that about Kenyon again ... not sure we all got it.

Given what I believe will be exemplary QB work by Huff (with passing just fine and a running dimension added) and the receivers (best in the conference) ... I look to DJB backed up by Sobecki and perhaps an elder statesman/athlete moved over to cover RB just fine.  Look for the combo of Sobecki and Don Juan to become a "go to" force to deal with by the third game ... behind a good O line.

I do think it may be RB-by-commitee, but I wouldn't mind seeing a veteran athlete moved back there.
