Speaking of QB's.........

the Spud Dick era at Depauw started this past weekend.  He started his first college game and surprisingly won.

I really can't wait to hear the Wabash crowd when his name is announced on November 11!!!

Medicine Man,

Why are you so defensive about Schafer? If you are going to be offended by people's opinions like me who know obviously know nothing about football because I didn't play the exact position in question, then you shouldn't be browsing this board. Or reading the newspaper, or sitting in the stands ...

There has probably never been a player in Wooster's program that has gotten more props than Schafer, other than Sutton. Tell me what I wrote that was incorrect? Did I quote the wrong stats? Did I mistakenly say that the entire Wooster offense is back from last year?

I'm just calling it as it is. I never said he was a bad quarterback. In fact, he is a very good quarterback. He just hasn't showed he is a great quarterback, which was forcasted for him. And that has to do with consistency. Against Wabash and Witt in 2004, he looked great. In the playoffs that year, not very good. He looked great against Allegheny before getting hurt last year and looked real good against Wabash despite being injured.

If Schafer has a great season, I will be one of the happiest people for him and Scots, as I want them to win like the next person, but I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and say that 80 yards against a weak Waynesburg defense is a feather in a four-year starter's cap who is supposed to be the best QB in Wooster history.

One of my points was that - yes- you probably did not play QB----- and I'm not really concerned about whether or not I have your blessing on "browsing this board, or sitting in the stands." Oh, I forgot and "Reading the newspaper? "

Schafer is a very good QB and a great kid and I just get tired of people criticizing him and -------no I am not related to him.

You obviously have every right to say what you wish and I have every right to disagree.

Anyone want to talk about about whether the Collateral Source rule is still applicable in Texas personal injury suits?

Yeah, didn't think so. Let's get back to quarterbacks.

Well, I kinda did, but I guess we can talk about quarterbacks instead.

seinfeld

Since I don't know anything about quarterbacks, I'll talk about some things I do know -- shows about nothing, Superman and cereal.

how well does Wooster's field drain...will this turn into a defensive struggle...is Shepherd ready to go...inquiring minds need to know...

btw, i love Cocoa Puffs...

The collateral source rule dates back to 1854 and is a rule of evidence which prohibits the introduction of victim's damages which were compensated from some other source of compensation.  The Tort Reform Act attacks this rule and has been accepted in 24 states ... Texas not being one of the 24 .... and Schafer is having a  terrible time and DePauw sucks canal water, is QBed by a Dick, and is simply a bunch of little Spuderers.

Whether we want to admit it or not, tomorrow's game at the Hollett is a big game in our conference.  Preseason #1 vs. Preseason #2....clearly some of the shine is off of this one as these two teams come in with a combined record of 1-4.  We still shouldn't discount the importance of this game.  With a win, OWU's season is immediately resurrected.  With a loss, they're pretty much done before we get to October.  Wabash can take another step toward asserting itself as a favorite with a solid win.  It's going to be interesting to see how these two teams respond when things ratchet up a notch for conference play.  I'm expecting to see a good game between teams that will step up now that the chips are in the middle.

Looks like we could be in for windy and stormy tomorrow.  Hopefully we can dodge any serious rain tomorrow afternoon.

The weather could end up being a huge factor in the BASH/OWU game.  Speed is our biggest advantage and with a sloppy turf that does not bode well.

wally_wabash

I don't think I've seen a really sloppy, quagmire type of game at Little Giant Stadium.  The field seems to handle it's water pretty well.  Grubs on the other hand...not so much.

Sloppy or not, it looks like it will be wet which brings all sorts of fun things into play...palyers slipping and falling, increased chance of fumbles from the wet ball, etc. etc.  With wind and rain, I'd not expect to see any FG tries outside of 30 yards from either team, unless it's an end of half situation.

I do think that it is going to be important for Wabash to stretch the field, regardless of the playing condition.  Even if we're not hitting the deep ball, we have to throw it occasionally to keep OWU honest and out of the box.  We've seen CC bottle things up in the past when it gets windy and rainy and it is usually to the team's detriment (the prime example being the Gheny OT loss in '04).

Speaking of field conditions at Hollett ...

The field - this past weekend - appeared to be in the worst condition I have seen it in years  ... swatches of brownish turf ... where you would expect well cared for green grass about an inch or 2 long.  Shades of Gheny mudhole later on in the season?

What is the reason for the ...what apprears to be ... poor condition?  Does anyone know?

littlegiant66

Speaking with inside sources.....it seems that the field may have recieved too much fertilizer and thus the brown areas.  It looks pretty bad.  I just hope new grass grows fairly quickly.

If we get lucky enough, with a little thunder and lightning, we might get to play at the high school under the lights again, after a 4 hour break in the action.

Hopefully it won't come to that - that was a LONG day.
