I know its very early,  but here is the way the race for the conference title shapes up: (1 loss scenarios)

Witt  3-1 - at Oberlin, Gheny, and Hiram
If they win out and Kenyon and Oberlin lose another game they are in.

Wabash 4-1
  Wooster, at Denison
Wabash needs to beat Wooster and Denison and hope that Witt and Kenyon loose another game.

Wooster 3-1 - at Wabash, Earlham, At Kenyon
Woo needs to win out and hope that Witt and Oberlin lose another game.

Kenyon 3-1
- at Denison, Oberlin, Wooster
Kenyon will need to win out

Oberlin 3-1 - Witt, at Kenyon, at Gheny
If they win out and hope Wabash lose another game.

In the event that all the one loss teams each loose another game, I will begin to drink heavily and try to figure it out.

I think I figured this all correctly.   ;)

Witt seems to me to still be in the drivers seat.

How awesome would it be to have a Witt loss and a DePauw loss on the same weekend?

You're in luck.  It just went final.  31-7 Millsaps beat DePauw.

Add in the Longhorn's last second victory in Cornland and I've got a great day going.

What a day for the NCAC. This is going to be an interesting few weeks.

Holy Jeebus Cripes! We know this much - the NCAC won't host a first round game. Other than that....it's a big ol' roulette wheel.

I spent a lot of time on Thursday thinking that DePauw scares me. I don't know if they do anymore.

As I mentioned earlier this week, playing OWU after a big win has historically been a problem for Wittenberg.  Unbelievable!!!!  I would like to get some observations from the game as I wasn't able to attend or listen to the game today.

Excellent post, BashBrother.  We were having a big discussion about that on the way back as to what needed to happen, but trying to figure out all 5 teams gave me a headache  :)

It was what you would expect from these teams; lots of running the ball, lots of good defense.  In the end, it came down to 2 things (at least in my mind):

1) The OWU defense came up with big stops when they needed them.  Sure, Murray had another 100+ yard game (which tied the school record for consecutive 100+ yard games at 6), but in the 3rd down situations, OWU shut Witt down.  Witt's defense played solid as well (aside from the first drive of each half), but it was a tough fought victory for OWU.  Not to mention that OWU had pressure on Huffman on basically EVERY play of the game.

2) Aaron Huffman's inability to make plays at the end.  When you spend a whole game turning and handing the ball to Murray/Vanover/Hall, you don't necessarily have a "cold" arm, but it definitely isn't ready to lead a big game winning drive.  Wittenberg's coaches have rode Murray all year, and when it works, it's great - however, they haven't let Huffman throw the ball enough during the normal course of games in order to be prepared for those late game situations where he needs to throw it.

I said going in that this was dangerous for Witt, and I guess I was right.  Now, things get real fun the rest of the way out.

I was at the Woo-Gheny game today.  A great hard fought battle by both teams.  It was a physical game.  I had a front row seat for the Hail Mary pass.   It happened right in front of me.  Here is what happened.

What was 'Gheny thinking is all I can say!?!?!?!?  I was literally standing there as they lined up for the last play and Woo brings 3 receivers to the left.  Now you would think 'Gheny would put some DB's back right??? Nope.  They had 2 DB's underneath on the same side as the 3 and only 1 DB back!!  When the ball was snapped I almost crapped my pants. At the snap I saw 2-3 players running back but by then it was too late.  It was literally 3 on 3 in the endzone or maybe 4 on 3 at the most.  A Wooster player tips the pass back and almost picture perfect Swerigen(sp) catches the pass.  Ballgame.  Unbelievable.

Either the coaching staff had never practiced this situation or the players completely blew it.  A lot to say for one play but I just couldn't believe the ineptitude of the 'Gheny defense on the last play????

SmedIndy,

In your mind, you'd be scared if we were playing Tuttle Middle School and Philip Luzuader was the QB and MLB.  You, seriously, are unbelievable.  Your pessimistic attitude gets old...in a hurry.  Seriously, change your handle.

Next week, you'd better be watching over your shoulder...I may pay some oversized Beta pledge to take you out during that game.  That would be AWESOME.

Go Bash...

scotty:

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood should be self explanatory to Woo fans due to the win and the unveiling of the new mascot today.

Schafer injury: groin.....an injury ranging from mild inconvenience to pesky pain.

In the event of the pesky pain variety, Reiff appears as stated.

No need to be troubled  :)

Smeds,

Just read my previous post...in proof-read mode...ya, that will be awesome...automatic inititiation if someone catches you with a flying forearm (out of your chair) from a Beta pledge.

You and TR should meet down in Marshall (Parke County)...

I'll say.  He threw a couple of deep, tight spirals that were right on the money.  Sure, the Hail Mary is 90% (or pick your percentage) luck, but you have to get the ball there and he did, after a little moving around in the pocket.  Not that I'm hoping for Schafer to remain injured, but I have to admit to the curiousity of wanting to see Reiff get more snaps.
