How about Rummel's eye popping Player of the Week numbers...17 of 37 for 244 yards and 3 TDs against an 0-7 Hiram team...that is fine to spread those around to other players/teams in the league, but let's at least have them post some worthy numbers.

If you were Rogers (former DePauw) how could you hesitate in hiring the baddest Wabash attorney you could find...that would be pretty easy and make for a great story.  I have no legal knowledge but it at least sounds like he may have something there.  What is the deal if an employer mandates that a minority has to be hired?  Is that legal?

Decided to make the trek to Denison this weekend.  Not sure if I am going to watch the Little Giants or to be there IF it is announced that Gheny has pulled off the victory.  Or, maybe get the call from BashBrother on the cell.  Also, I am not so sure I would call it an upset.  I think the Gators are playing pretty good football right now and I think Witt is struggling a bit.  It should be interesting and Gheny has the horses.  If the weather is favorable, that will be a huge advantage to the Gator passing game.  Savage can throw it around and they have Dallas and the Lieb kid.

Disclaimer: I don't practice employment law so I am relying on what I can recall from law school to answer this question.

Federal law says you can't discriminate in hiring because race, sex, color, religion, national origin, or citizenship status. Thus, where an employer fails to hire someone for a position solely because of their race, then you've got a problem. Just as it is sometimes difficult to show why someone was not hired, it will probably be difficult to show he was forced to hire someone in an illegal manner.

I've not seen the petition and have no idea what facts were alleged, if any. But based solely on what I've read and heard on here I'd have to say it sounds like a decent case, IF you can prove the mandate.

cave2bens: Since OWU is way out of the picture this year, my allegiance falls to the teams from OH. It is great to beat the best and if Witt wins it, OWU can say for some salvation that they beat the conference rep. Okay it is pretty awesome to say they beat Witt no matter the situation. I know I hit a nerve with you when you have to resort to taking a stab at me by saying Go Blow  ;) or something like that. If an OH team can win all the NCAA football divisions and have the most reps., everything would be right with the world, okay just my world.

Synapses still firing at middle-aged pace, so nerves are intact, Kreds.  No worries and just offering some good-natured, pot stirring.  OWUs win was reason for celebration, and hope the pubs were hopping on Sandusky Street and the Stuy girls were going nuts.  ::)

Found that wearing my bifocals when perusing posts eliminates some of the visually-challenging elements for we elderly types... ;D ;D

I think we're deep enough into the season now that it's appropriate to start making cases for and guessing who might win our conference's postseason awards.  This could make for an interesting discussion this year because for the first time in a looong time I don't think the Gregory Award is an obvious choice.  I'm not sure there is an obvious choice for any of the awards, really.

I'm not 100% sure on the names of the awards but I would say:
OPOY : Tristan Murry(witt) Or Huff (bash) although combs ( ken) will have his fair share of votes as well

DPoY  : pynesburg(sp)(bash) or Watson ( Woo)

NewcomerPOY : Hoffman, just becasue he lead his team to the playoffs (pending) as a freshmen QB

CoachOY : I think kenyons coach, although he will not win or share the conference title, I think he is doing the most with what he has, and building a foundation to grow on. mark my words, kenyon will become one of the upper level teams in the conference in the next few years.

Special teams: looking at the stats, kickers are pretty even, some better at PATS, some better at FG's and some better at kickoffs or punts. but I have seen witts porter do very well, as well as the wooster punter and kicker did a fine job in the games I saw.

I'm glad I dont have to vote on this... most of the catagories are not cut and dry like they have been the past few years.

When it comes down to two people of equal talent, it comes down to heart, I don't lose often when it comes to heart.

short

Coach of the year... If Wabash win the NACA outright its CC all the way!  If Wabash ties with Witt its Finchum, leading a team that was pick 4th with a Freshmen QB and just 3 Defensive starts back from last year 5-5 team plus the fact that he basically has a whole new staff.
Offensive Player of the year... Rick Drushal of Wooster is the best player in the NCAC hands down but he plays on the O-line. Huff is the best QB only because he has Mike Russell the best skell player in the NCAC.  Jimmy Savage is the Most Talented QB in the NCAC but is not passing to Russell like Huff.  T Murray of Witt will most likely be the winner and I'm ok with that but I personally think it should be Drushal and/or Russell but don't think that will happen.
Defensive Player of the year... Pynenberg and Frank Knez will be 1st Team all NCAC but no one else on the Wabash Defense is worthy of a post season honor.  Owen Case is an animal and single handily leads OWUs Defense this year... but to me the best two defensive players in the NCAC are Evan Watson Wooster and Tyler Harmon Witt.  They play on the best Defensives and are the best players on those Defensives.  Harmon is leading the NCAC in Tackles per game. Watson is an amazing athlete that just flat out can make plays!
Freshmen of the year... No idea.

I'd vote for Fincham for Coach of the Year. They were picked 4th and will end up no worse than second and beat the preseason favorite.

There are good arguments to be made for all of the above players on both sides of the ball.

my opinion on the defensive player OY...the top 3 candidates are:

1. owen case (DE) OWU
2. andy pynburg (MLB) wabash
3. evan watson (DE) woo

i'd personally have to say watson, since woo does have the #1 defense in the conference. (with the best d-line coach  ;) )

also, just to get this off my chest one last time regarding woo-wabash. yes, to some extent woo was outcoached but i do give wabash a lot of credit - they have a great coaching staff who made great half time adjustments. woo didn't follow up on either side of the ball.

and no excuses but the starting QB and outside LB were both hurt, and i believe that definitely made a difference.

either way, i choose to support woo whether they're winning or losing.

wally_wabash

Wabash was also down a first team all conference DL, their #1 wide receiver, and their starting LG...which also made a difference.  Injuries get to everybody this time of year.

I've emerged from my depression and am perking up for the match-ups this weekend. GO Allegheny! Go Denison! ;D

It's senior recognition at Woo Saturday....which looking at the roster.....is kind of depressing.....We will miss a lot of talent. Do most schools in the NCAC play out a full JV schedule? Woo only played 3 JV games early in the season....doesn't that impact your ability to replace key positions???

Wabash's "Red Squad" (JV team) played 5 this year going 4-1 with wins over Millikan, 2 over DePauw  ;D, and D2 St. Joseph  :D.  Their lone loss was to Franklin  >:(.  More then anything, that gives the underclassmen a chance to show what they can do along with providing a huge morale boost during the year.

Scotty - they finally let Sobecki play in the last one of the season vs. DePauw - I guess he ripped it up.  A highlight was a screen pass that went for 40+ where he ran about 4 guys over and broke a bunch of tackles.  He'll be the horse next season and has hopefully picked up some good experience this season.  He's on a bunch of special teams and will definitely earn his letter.

DadofBashWarrior - have you been to a game yet this year?  What is up with that - please tell me you will be at Hollett Little Giant Stadium on November 11...

Regarding post season awards...some tough calls no doubt.  Yes, Huff has the best supporting cast of WRs but he's made a lot of plays throughout the season...ex. last week with his legs.  He has made some clutch throws too.  With that said, I think Murray will win it and probably deservedly so.  It may play in to who wins the NCAC title though...  If Bash wins it outright, it may go to Huff.  I am biased but I think Pynenberg should win the D POY.  Watson and/or Harmon would be strong selections too.  Newcomer of the Year...not sure but I wouldn't think Huffman would.

Scotssis,
The Paxil has had its nice calming effect, While I agree and still feel the Offensive and Deffensive coordinators for Woo were out coached Sat, I was probably a little harsh... My support for the Scots hasn't and won't waver, I look forward to Sats. game with Earlham, hopefully the Scots can get back to their winning ways and continue with a little pay-back in Gambier at Kenyon the following week. I hope the team can send the seniors out with 2 straight victories and then use the momentum going to spring practice..

So if you think about it... We have to kill these animals or else they will die...... Guess that makes us environmentalists

Offensive player of the year:  Murray.  It would be hard to pass up this kid.  ToO good.  Althought Huff is an excellent player, I just feel that Murray did too much in the Wooster and Wabash games to consider giving it to anyone else.

Defensive player of the year:  Pynenberg.  He was and is an outstanding player.  One of the best I've seen in my 12 yrs. of watching NCAC football.  And I've seen some good ones.  Riser(AC), Raffey(WITT), Duer(CoW), and all the good ones from Wabash.  And I'm sure there are many more great LB's I'm missing.  I guess that poses the question, who are some of the best linebackers to ever grace the fields of the NCAC?

Coach of the Year:  Fincham.  If Witt wins the league, its a no brainer.  They were picked 4th and have beaten Wooster and Wabash.  It would be hard to pick anyone else.

Freshman of the Year: ?????  I don't even want to think about that.

GO TIGERS!!!
