Thanks Li'l Giant for the constant update......I will be at the Bell next week...

DoBW, it's something beautiful to see. I wish I could be there. Hell, I wish I could watch it on TV. I'll be a Webcast Warrior again because I live in a crappy city with no sports bars with HD capabilities.

Our hopes may rest with Hiram.........Go Hiram....!  ;D

Uuuughhhh.......

Witt has played like they needed to today.   Murray needs to retire.

Did Hiram let you down - or did my Terriers (Class of '97) finally rise up and stay awake for a quarter or 2?

If you can get word to the Terriers that we really really really need them to play the game of their young lives next week, I'll buy you beers until you die!

As much as I hate to say - I think they played that game against Earlham and lost. In my four years at Hiram I think they won 7 games.

I think that in a 3 week span my freshman year Hiram got beat 50-0 by Mount, 84-14 by ONU and 42-3 by John Caroll. I know the Mount and ONU scores are right - JC may have scored more. Regardless - counting on a Hiram win in football is more than a longshot - it requires getting God involved.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

The Tigers played well today and will be finishing out a good season next week with Hiram!!!  Murray solidified his POY award!

GO TIGERS!!!!

oldguy

Good win by the Tigers.  Its always nice to beat the Gators.

So, when was the last time an NCAC champion wasn't undefeated in conference?  Was it 1997?

nike

I guess I have to root for Witt now.
O.K., GO WITT!!!!!!!! Who are the teams they can play?
Does anyone think a second NCAC team could possibly be selected?
and finally, WHY IS HIRAM SO BAD? I know it is a tiny school, but goodness gracious sakes alive why can't they  even compete?

No way. Every team has at least 2 losses. An 8-2 NCAC team isn't going to make the playoffs as an at large team.

I'm not sure size is the problem.

According to their website they have 900 students and 45 % are male. So they have 405 male students. That has to be the smallest male enrollment in the NCAC, to be sure. And they also apparently have 300 students enrolled in their "weekend college" program. I don't know how many of those are male, but some of them are probably in class on Saturdays and not at football games.

But I counted 80 players on their roster. That's just under 20% of their total male enrollment. Now that has to be the highest percentage of participation in football in the NCAC.

I'm assuming it's just not emphasized as important at all and treat their football team like it's a club team. Are there any Hiram fans out there who can shed light on this?

I would love to know why Hiram is so bad as well. I graduated from Hiram and knew a bunch of the players - some real talent but they just can't put it together. As an alum I rec'd a mailing to donate for the new sports complex they opened - I returned mine with a letter that simply asked: "Are you serious?"
I have offered to take over the Hiram program for FREE - for one year. If I can't deliver 3 wins they can bring in whomever they like - but if I do they have to pay me for that year and sign me for 4 more years. To date they have not replied.

Lil' Giant:

You are right about the size and %. The size won't change much since the Charter limits enrollment to less than 1100 students. The weekend college is seperate and mostly made up of adults between the ages of 30-40 that did not finish college and are trying to do so while working full time jobs - it is a good program.

As far as the club team thing - I don't think that is it. The school spends alot of money on football - the new facilities, and every year for 5 years they had new uniforms (red helmets with Hiram one year, blue with HC the next, white with a paw print, red with a paw print, red with terriers - each one had different jerseys and pants). I think the coaches have accepted that Hiram loses - and the players have as well. I watched the Earlham - Hiram game last year with my nephew (Earlham grad) and was amazed at the lack of creativity. Hiram lined up and tried to play smash mouth ball (granted they won 7-2) but Hiram is not that type of team.

Sounds like a reasonable offer to me.... ;D
