I don't disagree with you that Wabash is in a small town.  Hiram has nothing.  It is in the middle of a wooded area.  You have to drive 15-20 minutes to get to a big town like C-Ville. ;D

One thing they did offer.  You could get action photos of the game when the game was over.  Not sure if they still offer this or not, but it was great to get those photos.  As always.

WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!

The last pair of NCAC PotW go to Tristan Murray and Adi Pynenberg.  I'm guessing that's a little foreshadowing for NCAC awards season.

Hiram, Ohio (41°18'37" North, 81°8'46" West) is the home of Hiram College, a small liberal arts institution of approximately 700 students. As of the 2000 census, there are over 1,242 people, 234 households, and 147 families residing in the village. (Hiram Village Website)

Nearest pizza place is about seven miles

wittdaone: Wilmington, OH is downright metropolitan compared to Hiram, OH.

Although it's reasonably close to Mt. Vernon, the Kenyon campus is also somewhat isolated in the forest.  But, for some reason, I don't get the same feeling down there.

At Hiram, it would not at all surprise me to have to pull up my vehicle while Daniel Boone himself pardoned himself and crossed the road in front of me.  Venison is probably a weekly staple at the campus cafeteria.  Both right-wing and left-wing militias likely hold monthly wargames in the woods.  Thought-to-be extinct species of wildlife certainly thrive in the area.  Big Mac is not a cheap hamburger but the nickname of fully 25% of the local inhabitants.

Ok, I'll stop.  Hiram is probably a wonderful school and community, but whenever I make a trip up there, I go armed to the teeth.  :)

So is the bottom line that Hiram just can't win because of it's location or that a dynamic new coach might be able to turn things around?
I certainly hope it is the latter.  But in looking at the history of the football team, they have only had a couple winning seasons THIS CENTURY!
As an aside, I have been to all the campuses mentioned above and none are anywhere near as desolate as Hiram, even though Hiram is fairly close to several larger towns.

I grew up in a big city so I thought Crawfordsville was in the middle of nowhere. Now that I travel to West Texas on business I know how wrong I was.

We camp at Turkey Run State Park nearly every year.  Before completing our trek from SE Michigan (and on down rte. 47), we always stop at the 'big city' of Crawfordsville to stock up on whatever we've forgotten!  It beats the heck out of Rockville (which is where we replenish perishables, and restock the beer supply)!

Witt faithful must be expecting similar results....they won the league, are now in the playoffs and the main topic of conversation is Hiram??

Ahh - Hiram College! "Nestled in the rolling hills of Northeast Ohio" (taken from the HC mailing that was sent to me as a new student in 1993). Yes it is a small town, and yes not much is around - but that is the beauty. To clear up some errors: the closest pizza can be obtained in Garrettsville (3.4 miles - give or take) or from the grill in the basement of the Kennedy Center on campus. Truthfully, the closest anything (store, bar, restaurant, etc.) is in Garrettsville - however the last time through they had opened a small something at THE intersection in town (yes - it has one stop light). When I was a student they had CJs Down Under - a great restaurant/bar right across from the post office. However, it closed down a few years ago. Students have to be creative to survive - or have a car. Most of the time it is dorm parties (no frats allowed), sex on certain rooftops, and other dorm parties. In between it is mostly studying.

As far as Hiram football is concerned - well I restate my offer:

I will coach the Terriers FOR FREE!!!! If after one year I can not deliver 3 wins - then I will walk away. But when I give you at least 3 wins - then I get paid for the first year, and a 5 year contract!! C'mon Hiram, 2-48 in the last 5 years!!! It really can not get much worse! Give it a chance!!!

So, you going to print this out and send it in? Maybe they'll take you up on your offer.

When I have time  I will go into Hiram's record books and add up their record this century, or maybe the last fifty years. It just amazes me that a team could be so bad so long.
Oh yeah, good luck Witt from a Fighting Scot guy. Cap I would think is alittle overconfident, judging from their posts on their d3football site.

Cap people are going to catch OSU-Mich, figuring they can catch Capitol next week. Go Witt!!

I wonder how many Witt fans will skip the game for the Mich/OSU game. Maybe if Cap fans are skipping this week's game Witt has an opportunity to take the home crowd advantage away.
