On the Wooster meals for football players string:

I believe to have a boosters group furnishing something (meals ... socks ... cars?) to athletes/athletic departments ... is a Div III rule violation.  I may be wrong ... but I believe this to be the case.  It has nothing to do with Wooster "not supporting football properly etc."

I believe that ... if a group wanted to assist with meals for football players ... they properly have to make the contribution generally to the College (or perhaps they can give generally to the athletic dept ... not sure here) and the College then elects ... within its budget to spend ... oh ... lets just say ... a few dollars for pizza.  By the time you go through all the wickets of check, double check, approval ... it is just not worth the trouble.

I know Wabash is very strict concerning this sort of thing not happening.  If "gifts" are to come the football team's way ... it is already in their budget which the College sets as it sets all its other budgets.  I know Wabash simply does not want any possible/potential Div III rule issue ... I suspect Wooster is the same way.  (I would expect no less from Wooster or the other NCAC schools.)

I believe there is a correct way to get where you want to go and suggest the Woo boosters work on it in the off season where there is not the press of time and potential for mistake.

Now, having said all this... with regard to the other string concerning scheduling/ playing MUC:  GO WABASH ... beat MUC next year ... IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!

Maybe Mount Union could enter into some kind of agreement with the UAA wherein they will agree to play a home and home with each team in that league over the course of 8 years.   ;D

Just an FYI for wabco:

2.      Away-from-home competition.
16.8.1.2.3 Meal-Allowance Limitation.
All student-athletes on the same team must receive identical meal allowances on intercollegiate trips and during vacation periods when student-athletes are required to remain on the institution's campus for organized practice sessions or competition.  Such allowances may not exceed the amount provided by the institution to institutional staff members on away-from-campus trips and may not be provided for a particular meal if the student-athlete receives that meal (or its equivalent) from another source

Bylaw 16.5.2-(d)-(3) Meals in Conjunction with Away-from-Home Competition.

All student-athletes are permitted to receive a pregame or postgame meal as a benefit incidental to participation.  An institution, at its discretion, may provide cash, not to exceed $10, in lieu of a meal to student-athletes following away-from-home contests.  (See Bylaw 16.8.1.2.3.)

The point of the previous posts was that a fine academic institution like Woo should have budgeted better.......so that parents who already paid for meals during the term didn't have to be "another source".

Convoluted NCAA rule language aside, the point I was trying to make ... perhaps ineptly ... was that I suspect Woo cannot / will not allow alumni sports booster groups to engineer ad hoc boosterisms.  That is what I believe is also an NCAA Div III "convoluted language" rule violation.  I know Wabash does not allow it.

Now as to whether a specific team is fed by its College correctly or is fed enough in quantity/quality ... you may have a point that Woo is not feeding well ... don't know whether they are or are not.  I do know that Wabash players/staff/etc. are fed and have not heard any griping in that regard.

If there is a quantity/quality fall off here, a good time to discuss and "fix" it is now before the press of a thousand things during the active season.

Lets get those Woo boys fed!

Okay okay, finally got Groundskeeper Willy sedated.

Whatd I miss?

Wooster is the ONU of the NCAC and will be banned from postseason play for feeding their players.  The parents have been brought in by the IRS for buying pizzas.

Have no fear, with Groundskeeper Willy undergoing hypno therapy there will be no need in Wooster for any of that fancy Meadville proturf, if we can just keep the damn pipers off the field.  That savings alone surely should afford the laddies some Ramen noodles back at the dorm and a buck fifty two hot dog fountain drink combo from the gas station.

If not I could always muster up a sheeps belly and some chitlins
See that, that spells Adidas

I do want to point out that Woo did play a JV game against Mount Union this season and it was a very respectable loss......the Woo players were clearly...ummmm...hungry for a win against Goliath.... ;D

Question.......if a high-buck alumnus wanted to donate one MILLION dollars to put field turf in, would the Wooster administration say no?

How many fields are they putting in for a million smackers?

They just got finished with Wash U, so it could be done in six. :)

Re: MUC & The Rest Of Us. I feel for a program like Ohio Wesleyan, they should play Mount. It's an in-state game/good for recruiting & exposure over-all. If the Bishops keep it fairly close (let's not get into pts. please), those H.S. prospects that might lean away from Alliance, might go to Delaware. I think you build a better program by playing the better or best. I thought the MUC JV team beat the Ashland JayVees this year. Ouch!! Going outside the Division for a D3 team only opens up a can of worms that in the end is not what we are all about. Maybe a pre-season/2 a-day practice game for MUC vs a D2. I feel that a Slippery Rock, Indiana U (Pa) or for that matter, a Ashland would take care of a MUC team.

I had heard that one of the high-tech turf fields had a million dollar price tag.  Not really sure about that.  I brought up that scenario because that is how Mount was able to put their turf in.  A Mount alumn/fan passed away, and donated the money to the college with the specific instruction it be used to re-do the field.
