Knowing nothing about Allen aside from the fact that he comes from Ben Davis, I'm excited about the hire.  Ben Davis is a great program in Indiana and having a solid tie to that school can't hurt. And if Allen was good enough to follow Dullaghan at BDHS, he can probably coach a little to boot.

Footballs at a football practice?!?!  Heresy!  We'd hate to compromise the sanctity of the student-athlete by introducing footballs to a spring practice.  [/heavy sarcasm]

Former Witt player Taver Johnson was named Cornerbacks coach at Ohio State today.  Good to see a fellow D3 player rise in the ranks.  He left the Raiders for the job.

I agree----how old is he...and where all was he (in addition to the Raiders) before he got the OSU job?

It does fit, I think, because from what I gather the NCAC is somewhat of a 'driving force' behind the idea of a Division IV or non-championship D-3 athletics.

At least some of the NCAC is...from what I gather.

short

Taver is 34 and was the D-line coach at Witt for two yrs, LB and DC at Millikan for 3 yrs, GA ND 1 yr, LBs Miami (oh) 4yrs, SpTeams Cle Browns 1 yr, DC Miami 2 yrs.  All in that order.  Witt has got some young guys doing well in the coaching world. Others Young Witt Grads that are doing well, Tim Daust DL CMU (Witt Grad in 02), John Hauser DBs NIU (Witt Grad in 03), Adam McClain DL Grand Valley (Witt Grad in 03)

Maybe the NCAC believes that footballs in the Spring would only advance the Global Warming issue in the Upper Midwest..... just a thought.  What is the carbon footprint of a pigskin? ;D

I would experience heartbreak like never before if Wabash dove into a non-competitive (non-competitive, non-championship...what's the difference?) D-IV sort of situation.  If there are enough D3's out there that want to head back to Little League and stop keeping score and records and anything else that might be deemed as "competitive" to establish their own division, then so be it.  I just hope Wabash isn't part of it.

Somehow I just cannot see that happening. Wabash has far too much football tradition and, importantly, alumni support to ever let that happen...

Wabash isn't one of those in the NCAC driving this, though. I'd look to some schools in Ohio. And it's not just the have-nots either.

I can live with the stupidity of the rule of "no football" for spring football practice ... with the ruling academic geeks thereby having pleasant thoughts that this somehow redounds to the ultimate benefit of the pursuit of higher academe (Note:  It is a serendipitous event if this "proper" pursuit also benefits the student and his/her positive college experience.)

However, gutting NCAC college sports to the level of gradeschool ... essentially "we all win ... why keep score ... don't try too hard" ... is just plain unbelievable.  I would hope Wabash would withdraw from such a world and go with those who have their heads more nearly screwed on straight and less pointed.  I believe Wabash would/will ... if such a rediculous state of affairs becomes the NCAC world of the Oberlins et. al.

I've not heard names. Can you share?

Couldn't agree more...just how much support is there in the conference behind this "movement"?

smedindy

At one point, I heard 8 of the 10 schools were in favor of this idea in some aspects, whether it be limiting the number of bids the conference accepts in each sport or what. But I doubt that much will happen, really. This was a couple of years ago and I've slept since then.

Smed ... my ... man

why you bring up 2 year old "poop"?  and cause anxiety ... 2 years old ....

How about something more topical like any skinny you have on Wabash and the recruitment wars?
