This can explain it better than I can.  http://www.doe.state.in.us/core40/pdf/Core40DiplReqsComp.pdf

Hmmm...if they have a lot of transfers and "Core 40" instead of "Academic Honors" then perhaps they're not aiming for the kids that Wabash would get - but rather the Manchester / Anderson kids.

Core 40..........hmmmmm.......technical diploma on how to properly handle your 40 ounce while hangin' out in the hood?   ;D

That may also not be indicative of the student-athletes Marian is after once the program is established.  Right now the need for Marian is quantity over quality.  Once the program is on its feet, you might see Marian narrow the focus a bit.

Thanks for clearing that up, FS4.

Wally is right, also. They may end up changing their approach after they establish themselves.

Smed,

I agree, Wabash would prefer the Academic Honor degree player.  I think you might be suprised on how many Core 40 players may be at Wabash.  My son graduated with 49 credits, but graduated with the Core 40 degree.  He only had 2 years of Spanish.  He had 4 years of English, Math, and Science, but because of the foreign language requirement he was only Core 40.

I think Manchester, Franklin, Anderson and most D2 go for the General Diploma players.

Any word on how the Spring workouts are going for Wabash?

bashbrother

Yeah......any updates would be much appreciated..... one of the only thing great about MLB starting is that i know that Wabash football is at the end of the rainbow.

Also,  has anything improved with the field at Hollett?  By the end of last year it was a mess?

I know that last season, there was some discussion of how much of an embarassment Earlham's M.O. Ross Field was to the NCAC.

Well, it now appears as though the "go ahead" has been officially given to the renovation that will result in the new Beane Memorial Stadium.

It's still no Beaver Stadium  ;), but it should be a little bit better for those of you who head to Earlham every other fall to watch football.

Here is a tidbit:

It seems the defrocked Danny football coach of a year plus ago ... Tim Rogers ... has finally landed.  He will be the new head football coach at Catholic Central HS in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The quote from the Grand Rapid Press of April 11, 2007, includes the following:  "Rogers is taking over a program rich in tradition and success. Catholic Central has made 11 playoff appearances the past 13 years ands advanced to the Division 4 state championship game in 2005."

It will be interesting to see how the Catholic Central Cougars do with Coach Rogers at the helm.   Hmmm ... from K-zoo to Dannyland to a HS in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Always liked the Cougars .... too bad.

wabco:

You forgot to include his one year stop at Cornell Univeristy (D-IAA) as Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach in between Kazoo and DePauw ;).

Unofficial Hollett field update...

1)  Completely re-sodded this Spring (short term fix)
2)  Hopefully field turf the next season

Too bad we are a year out, can you imagine Banach, Russell, Green, etc....all on turf their senior seasons with Huff throwing it?

You are correct.

Your comment brings another recollection ... I believe Rogers sued DePauw.  Wonder what became of the suit?  Too bad if he somehow got a bad rap and was closed out from consideration at the college level.  Hope not.

I do know a little about the HS he is going to.  Good academics and good football ... BUT ... they graduated a very large class of very fine footballers this year (some landed at Michigan, ND and scholarship Div II schools) leaving not much playing experience at the junior / now senior to be level. .   If you ever wanted Catholic Central on your schedule ... it is this year.  It will be interesting to see if Rogers can work some magic with the group he has coming up.

It was announced yesterday that the time changes that were made last season will no longer be in effect.  So, kickoffs start again when the returned touches the ball, the first snap after a change of possession (not immediately after the ball is placed), and so forth, much like it was 2 years ago and before.
