I still think that its a tall order for anyone to go undefeated* - strange things can and do happen. I am optimistic that Wabash will be the NCAC champs, but there is some talent elsewhere and if Wabash has a down game then they can be beaten.

*Note - does not apply to Mt. Union.

Saw Brett Sheldon on the Franklin roster - some of you may remember this...

Good talk about Woo Frosh and all that ... but Freshmen do not win conference championships ... beat Hiram ... sure ... but beyond that ... they are generally at least a year away regarding conference shallenges.

By the by ... if it has not yet been said ... Wabash will run the conference table.  The only complication to that prediction is if we injure each other in intra squad scrimmages.

Bring on the Grizzles ... no hiding this time ... even if you don't post your roster.  Should be a great game ... I look for the Grizzes to win their conference and get to the playoffs ... but ... not through the Little Giants.

Did you see the player sitting on top of the Allen Center doorway ringing the Monon Bell as the Frosh reported?  Now ... the Dannies never could do that ... they would have it burried somewhere by now ... had they had the luck to have it.

Go Wabash!

Usually I am pretty congenial on here. Usually it doesn't bother me at all that the NCAC board is inundated with Wabash folk.....I even enjoy most of their posts....even learn some things about the game and rankings, inner workings, etc. BUT, this kind of post really requires a response.

wabco,   This is an NCAC board, which implies welcome contributions from fans of all NCAC teams. Wooster fans have posted some comments simply discussing the quality of the incoming class.  Seems pretty harmless one would think. BUt no, apparently even this requires a Wabash fan to post a condescending submission. I have read back for several pages and have yet to find any snide comments about Wabash from non-Wabash posters. Wabash dominates the board and would appear to be dominating the conference again. Congratulations. So, why the need for the put downs? It doesn't do a thing for division 3 sports, the NCAC, football in general and frankly, if I were a Wabash alum, I would fail to see how it elevates Wabash at all.

As a side note, if the shoe were on the other foot and Wooster was predicted to win the conference, I wouldn't feel the need to put down Wabash posters. In fact, the board is much more interesting when there are posters from all the conference schools.

Well said Scot Lass.

Probably a year ago I made a post asking if Wabash could have their own forum. Pat Coleman answered me and said if the Wabash people were not on here no one would be.  I don't think so, I think people have gotten tired of the Wabash people constantly posting negative things about our teams and about everything we say and people have just lost interest.  It used to be fun and interesting but it has just become Wabash telling everyone how wonderful they are and being negative about everyone else and our posts.

Now there will be a post  from Bash telling how they feel about this post, but really guys don't waste your time, I don't care what you think of my post.  I am just stating how I feel like you guys do many, many times a day.   Why don't you just IM or e-mail each other?  We are all proud of our teams and the jobs the players and coaches do.  Wabash is good, Coach Creighton is good.  We don't get on here and monopolize the board and tear everyone down.

Thank you Scot Lass !!!!!!!!!

It's funny, because on the NCAC basketball board it's the Wooster folks that monopolize the conversation. I do think there are more posters now than there were back in the day. Yes, some of the Wabash folks have a bit more zealotry than is probably warranted, but then there are some from Wooster on the hoops board the same way. It is what it is.

I don't think that Wabco's post about freshmen were denigrating in the least. Perhaps a bit the tone wasn't as diplomatic as it could have been, but while one or two frosh in a great while can lead a team to a championship, it's usually the teams with the most talented experienced players in key positions (up front and in the skill positions) that prevail.

I don't think there's a lot of 'tearing down'. There are differences of opinions, but that's not tearing down. I think this board would be pretty weak if it was restricted to 100% cheerleading and kool-aid drinking.

The only school that deserves 'tearing down' isn't in the NCAC anyway... ;)

Since I am from the lesser-educated conference, I understand kool aid but need a little help with zealotry.

Can anyone confirm if Wooster is scrimmaging Baldwin-Wallace again this year, and if it is at home tomorrow (Saturday), and what time it might be?

Thanks

smedindy,

I hear what you are saying. BUT,

The Wooster fans on the basketball boards argument is kind of like "two wrongs don't make a right" OR my asking my kids what they were thinking and they say "everybody else was doing it"

And there's a difference between the boards being interesting because of valuing difference of opinion versus put downs and dominance.

There's also a difference between "cheerleading and kool aid" and creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable to participate. Example: Believe it or not, there are Hiram fans....I've been there, I've seen them......I'm sure they are interested in their team. But, I'm pretty sure if they were on here talking about new coaches and their incoming freshmen they'd face some similar snide comments. After a while, unless you are a Wabash fan, it's kind of boring.

I am clearly a Wooster fan, but I am interested in all the teams in the conference. Without participation from everyone in the conference.....there is no environment of "different opinions".......it's a board devoted to Wabash. So, different opinions get drowned out.

When you are at the top of your conference whether Wabash here, or Wooster in basketball I am sure you have a lot to say......that's great, but it's pretty boring. AND by the way, I didn't need any instruction on the fact that a team doesn't win championships with freshmen. Woo fans were simply discussing the incoming class. In the spirit of keeping this a conference board not a specific team board and a board of differing opinions not a domination board......I was simply giving wabco a penalty for piling on!

It's funny you mention that...we actually DO all email and IM each other.  Constantly.  Most of us have actually scaled back our work hours to allot enough time to talk about Wabash football in a sufficient quantity (we all spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-100 hours per week emailing, IMing, texting, or otherwise conversing about Wabash football).  During the season we all meet at super secret locations before our game on Saturdays to discuss the Master Plan™...Phase 1 was domination of the NCAC forum on Post Patterns, Phase 2 is world domination.  We envision a world where everybody wears scarlet and white all the time, where our classrooms focus solely on the history and importance of Wabash football, and where the final play of the 2001 Monon Bell is daily mandatory viewing.  Pure utopia....that's our goal.   ;D

But seriously, it's not all Wabash all the time in here and we are interested in what's happening elsewhere around the conference.  I inquired about further info on Wooster's freshmen class and got a nondescript two sentence answer and then that conversation died.  With just a handful of returning starters, I'd think that if these freshmen were as hot as has been reported that we might see a handful of them on the field...I'm still curious as to who these freshmen are, where they play, and what they bring to the table.  But if we don't want to explore that further, then the conversation is going to default back to Wabash.

Here are some other non-Wabash items that I think are worth discussing if anybody cares to...

- Does Witt stand a snowball's chance to actually make it a game with Capital this time around?
- Oberlin is very seasoned...do they have the chops to make a play at being in the top three when the season is all over?
- What has Kenyon done to improve their defense?
- How is OWU going to bounce back from 3-7 last year?  Who do they have to replace Nick Rice and is this the year that Hollway actually starts throwing a pass or four down the field?

There are a lot more, but let's see if any of these stick.  And if not, then we can get back to talking Wabash football.  Speaking of which, my inbox is blowing up...important Wabash stuff I'm sure.   :)

Heaven forbid the default!

Surely helps last year's best passer in the land is gone from the Crusader's roster.

As to the earlier shots at  the Witt QB and the cush job handing off to an all-american running back, don't worry, shouldn't be too long a wait for another.  Sorry they're not always seniors BashDad.

And cu, was thinking the same thing...  One can be zealous, one can possess the quality of zealousness, and I think one can be a zealot, but zealotry I believe confuses declensions and roots.  Hellfyrcert I don't know, but that was my initial thought before cu's post, just pass me the kool aid Jim.

Okay Wally....I'm game.....no patients to see this morning, so let's talk Woo.

Saw them last week at the Black/Gold scrimmage in miserable weather. Also, hard to identify people as they weren't wearing their assigned numbers.

Lots of experience lost to graduation. That's gonna hurt.

Quarterback: Parker and Holter would appear to be competing for starter. Two of the freshman looked good....one was very quick, but they were in with 3rd/4th stringers so hard to say how they would look with the 1st string offense.

Offense: some miscues and bumbling as one would expect with the first scrimmage. A couple of freshmen on the O-line are big and quick. Sheppard was as always outstanding.....you better really mean to tackle him or he's gone.

Kickers: all pretty good, but one freshman was outstanding......don't know his name but he had some awesome black and yellow shoes.

Defense: the new d-line coach is pumped up and motivating. Schermbeck appears to be moving from the outside to the middle position this year. Ends were Thomas (senior) and Brown (junior) both of whom rotated in for the Watson/Mizak duo last year. Thomas has experience, Brown transferred in from Ohio Northern last year and was named Special Teams Player of the Year and is well known to the Woo faithful for his bonecrushing tackles on kick-offs.

Special teams: a few glitches on the various setups as one would expect at a first scrimmage.

Overall the guys were pumped up.....lots of noise from the sidelines. Are they gonna win the conference? Probably not. Are they gonna be competitive? Absolutely.

Updates as warranted after the B-W scrimmage tomorrow.
