Well said Scot Lass.

Probably a year ago I made a post asking if Wabash could have their own forum. Pat Coleman answered me and said if the Wabash people were not on here no one would be.  I don't think so, I think people have gotten tired of the Wabash people constantly posting negative things about our teams and about everything we say and people have just lost interest.  It used to be fun and interesting but it has just become Wabash telling everyone how wonderful they are and being negative about everyone else and our posts.

Now there will be a post  from Bash telling how they feel about this post, but really guys don't waste your time, I don't care what you think of my post.  I am just stating how I feel like you guys do many, many times a day.   Why don't you just IM or e-mail each other?  We are all proud of our teams and the jobs the players and coaches do.  Wabash is good, Coach Creighton is good.  We don't get on here and monopolize the board and tear everyone down.

Thank you Scot Lass !!!!!!!!!

It's funny you mention that...we actually DO all email and IM each other.  Constantly.  Most of us have actually scaled back our work hours to allot enough time to talk about Wabash football in a sufficient quantity (we all spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-100 hours per week emailing, IMing, texting, or otherwise conversing about Wabash football).  During the season we all meet at super secret locations before our game on Saturdays to discuss the Master Plan™...Phase 1 was domination of the NCAC forum on Post Patterns, Phase 2 is world domination.  We envision a world where everybody wears scarlet and white all the time, where our classrooms focus solely on the history and importance of Wabash football, and where the final play of the 2001 Monon Bell is daily mandatory viewing.  Pure utopia....that's our goal.   ;D

But seriously, it's not all Wabash all the time in here and we are interested in what's happening elsewhere around the conference.  I inquired about further info on Wooster's freshmen class and got a nondescript two sentence answer and then that conversation died.  With just a handful of returning starters, I'd think that if these freshmen were as hot as has been reported that we might see a handful of them on the field...I'm still curious as to who these freshmen are, where they play, and what they bring to the table.  But if we don't want to explore that further, then the conversation is going to default back to Wabash.

Here are some other non-Wabash items that I think are worth discussing if anybody cares to...

- Does Witt stand a snowball's chance to actually make it a game with Capital this time around?
- Oberlin is very seasoned...do they have the chops to make a play at being in the top three when the season is all over?
- What has Kenyon done to improve their defense?
- How is OWU going to bounce back from 3-7 last year?  Who do they have to replace Nick Rice and is this the year that Hollway actually starts throwing a pass or four down the field?

There are a lot more, but let's see if any of these stick.  And if not, then we can get back to talking Wabash football.  Speaking of which, my inbox is blowing up...important Wabash stuff I'm sure.   :)

OK.  Here goes...

A blog post from Dave DeNatale on Oberlin's struggle for respect ...

http://sportskrew.blogspot.com/2007/08/road-to-respectability.html

Oberlin has 19 starters returning from last year, and they have 21 incoming freshman.  I don't remember them ever having this big an incoming class.  Ramsey has been hitting the recruiting trail hard.

For profiles on the incoming frosh:

Oberlin has a new President (Marvin Krislov), and it is unclear how athletics-friendly this new administration will be.

Peace.

Welcome yumbo!

I had a chance three years ago to talk with Coach Ramsey. His remarks then were along similar lines as the blog post. He recognized the challenges but was clearly committed to the time and work involved in turning around a program.

The "why Oberlin" section of each player profile is great. It's more than stats and history, it provides some personal testimony for the benefits of the football program and the college itself.

Thanks for joining the conversation and best of luck for a winning season!

ScotLass: Nobody on this board has more spirit, more in-depth insight into THE game & their team than The Men of Wabash. It's just the way it is...they are here because Pat has given us the forum of D3; it's why we are all here...D3 Football...we can only get this from two places...our Saturday stadiums and right here. Let's all treat it with respect, because it's all we got. smedindy is right. If the Oberlin's, Hiram's and, yes, the OWU's of the world would step-up, this board would rock. Two season's ago we had maybe 3-4 Bishops that would sound-off. Now...well, it's very disappointing. The banter, the shots taken at each other don't bother me...my Fantasy Team makes this look like Romper Room...hey, Boys will be Boys. OK, so it's pre-season...LG's will lose 3 games, Witt will have one loss to the NCAC Champs....that's right...Ohio Wesleyan..."H" brings out the new offense...lights up the board..and I forgot to mention...2 transfer's from Ohio State and 3 from Youngstown State...oh, and 4 JUCO's...What a DREAM...GO BISHOPS.

ScotLass

aueagle,

I agree: the Men of Wabash are certainly knowledgeable and zealous supporters of their team, D3, and THE game. Being a a woman I am also aware of the "boys will be boys" thing. BUT, I also know a little bit about the game and a lot about my chosen team. AND when shots are fired I may on occasion shoot back and draw more fire.......I can dish it out and I can take it.

Nice season predictions aueagle. Here's to Bishop's fans joining back in the mix...I'm interested to hear about their team....:)

I miss kkkkreds!
Wooster still looking good. They will have a potent air attack this year. I guarantee! Talked to someone at OWU. I think Hollway read our posts last year from the pros and cons of the wing-t, because my guy says they have abandoned it and gone with some type of power I backfield. I guess  3-7 will do that.
Whatever happened to that little scatback they had two years ago?  They had a really good freshman class that year, but I did not see many of them playing last year. Players don't leave d3 schools, do they?  Also read an article on the plight of the NAIA. Said some of the schools may wind up in d3.

Pat Coleman

21 freshmen is a huge deal for Oberlin. Yikes.

Yumbo,
Thanks for joining in.  Good luck this season.  I enjoyed the article.  It is obvious Oberlin is improving in the football category and then there is the academic aspect.... that speaks for itself !

Please encourage your other parents and supporters to read and post on this board.  We want to hear about all the NCAC teams.  Good luck this season.

It would be great to see Oberlin be the first team in the past few years to repeat as the best of the rest.  They have some stars; do they have the depth?

Remember, the program was at death's door in 1999.

Yumbo,

+k to you for the first Oberlin-related post in recent memory.  Looking at the schedule and your returning players, 6-4 isn't a stretch, and 7-3 is a definite possibility.

Amen, ScotLass.  +k to you as well.  That's what this board is about - supporting your team and learning about other teams as well.

Welcome aboard yumbo!  Thanks for the links on Oberlin.  I've been really impressed with what Coach Ramsey has done.  Let's not forget that it wasn't that long ago that Oberlin wrapped an 0 for 40-something streak.  Since then, Oberlin has knocked off a ranked team and finished .500 a couple of times.  I don't get to vote in such things, but I think Ramsey was deserving of coach of the year for the 2003 season.  Please keep us up to date on Oberlin football this fall!

Good luck next week vs. Franklin aueagle.  Is there any chance you could sneak up into a crow's nest next Saturday and get some video footage to share with us?  :)

Thanks, all.

I think the biggest obstacle for Oberlin is the lack of any kind of winning tradition.  Ever.  When you have to reach all the way back to Heisman's brief tenure as an Oberlin football coach for inspiration ("We beat Ohio State, once."), you've got a challenge.

So ... when adversity strikes this season, will the Yeoman say "Here we go again..." or will they rise up and fight?  We will see.

Football is back.  Life is good.

ps - I'm a '85 grad, which puts me squarely in the Old Fart category.  The music from my college years is in the "classics" bin at the record store.  They still call it that, don't they?  "Record store?"  My old roommate and I will try to make it to the Wabash game, as Crawfordsville is half-way between Milwaukee and St Louis.  I will bring a roll of duct tape for that annoying Wabash announcer.  Look for the OC fan wearing a letter jacket that doesn't fit anymore.

RE: Steroids

I'm curious ... do NCAC teams test for performance-enhancing drugs these days?  I know they do at the NCAA D3 swimming championships.

You would have to be a bonehead to take steroids.  This is, after all, Division III.  But still I wonder.

Here's a photo album from the Red/White Scrimmage.

The best thing I see in these photos is the lack of red-on-red unis. I hope those red pants are gone forever. Blech!

Well kiddies, I am back from the Woo/B-W scrimmage and well...........I am still trying to recover. I am trying to hold out hope that the team was taken over by aliens last night..........

Words like frightening and embarrassing come to mind..........BUT, it's early.....which is what practice tomorrow should be....very, very early........

Nice pics Lil Giant.
