T I will bring a roll of duct tape for that annoying Wabash announcer.

Um, wow. I didn't realize I got to the OTHER team. Well, once Amidon told me about a complaint from a Kalamazoo parent. But...geez.

However, I've retired (mainly because I have moved) but my schtick will live on.

Now, if I only can remember when it started, and more importantly, when the fans started to do it.

Oh, and I thought Oberlin was on the way up a few years ago. They had some kids that played hard in 2005 with a lot of grit and determination even when they were down big because of depth. 21 freshmen!! That is great news for the Yeomen.

Yes.  I was at that game.  It was frustrating to watch.  We were in it for a while, then we got worn down.  Wabash was coming in waves.  It seemed the opposite sideline was filled with red jerseys from endzone to endzone.

I did appreciate how the whole Wabash squad would take a knee whenever an Oberlin player got hurt.  A sign of class.

Some thoughts/impressions from Wabash Red & White scrimmage...
- RBs looked good with Kimp & Sobecki being the top 2.  I like their contrasting styles where Kimp is super quick and elusive and Sobecki is more north/south and very hard nosed.  The running game looked good with several good runs and plays.
- Huff looks like a different person being 20+ lighter.  He shot out on a scramble and was running away from guys in a hurry.  He looks much, much quicker in the pocket.
- OL is still coming together and have some guys dinged but they are as big as I have ever seen them.  Morris 6'6 302, Tokar 6'6 310, Hilts 6'7 280 - all tower.
- Several key D guys were held out but Kennon looks great and played inside & out, Lange looks much better then last year and also played in & out.  Whyde looked good too at DE.
- Schweigel is a huge corner (6'4) and looks very athletic & fast (switched from WR as a Frosh).  I was also impressed with Wood, a Frosh, from Chicago.
- Kicking game looked solid - Finley hit a 42 yarder and Oehler hit one about the same distance.  The Frosh, Whitehead, has a strong leg too.
- Most of the O play calling was very vanilla (probably more runs then passes) but when Huff threw, they were nice completions.  Graham stood out at J, and Chamblee, a Frosh, made some nice plays as well.
- Augustonowicz is still learning the O but showed some flashes and has a strong arm.  He made a great throw on the run (an out cut) and it was impressive.

I was late so I missed Banach's kick off return but I guess he was flying.  Overall, nice to see something but its difficult to get a great read with an intra-squad.  Next week at Wheaton should be a much better test and indicator.

I heard the DePauw/Franklin scrimmage was very lopsided and FC rolled.  24-0 at half and DPU couldn't get stops.

I like how the Bash D is shaping up and I think they will be a much different unit then the '06 start.  Deig & Adi inside, big & physical front, fast/athletic/experienced D-backfield should be very tough early.

You didn't think he looked good on crutches last year??? :)

How did Rich Lehmann look?

Wooster still looking good. They will have a potent air attack this year. I guarantee!

nike,
Do you have inside info on the QB? Are they rotating Parker and Holter? Both saw a lot of time at the B-W scrimmage.
Would appear the whole team got yesterday out of their system as practice today showed everyone in top form.

ScotLass,
No inside info, just have watched them practice in the quad area in the afternoons, just as I have for years. The passing drills revealed that the one guy, who I have now learned is Parker has a rifle arm. And the receivers looked very fast, even this one tight end who I believe is from Tallmadge. I did not see the scrimmage, in which I have to assume they were not very impressive, but with Sheppard in the backfield, as with Sutton, they need a thrower, not a scramber, to compliment the very good running game they will have.
I look for them to compete for the championship this year.

I like Parker better too....he could develop into a good one..

But if you saw the scrimmage, the Scots have a LONG way to go to be competing for a championship.

WabashCPA,

Lehman sat out but he is a speciman and hopefully will have a good year.  Did you see he is 6'5 216?  This time last year he was still playing QB.

I was at the Wooster-BW scrimmage, and there wasn't much to be too optimistic about after that showing. Both Parker and Holter looked very mediocre at best. That's nice that they look great in practice, but it is what they do against other teams, not themselves, that is more of an indication of how they are going to do.

As for this weekend's game against JCU, the only chance Wooster has is to come up with a couple of big plays on special teams, and get a couple of turnovers that lead to short field position. I think Wooster will have one of the best return games in the conference with Albani and Adams. I don't see the Wooster offense doing much against JCU based on how they looked and with three new starters on the o-line. Plus, the JCU QB, who moved the ball nearly at will in the second half of last years game once he was inserted, is back and will likely be the difference in this one.

At the risk of causing additional angst to Miss Scottlass and Medicine person ... there is a good article about the Wabash senior leadership:

It says a lot about the Creighton era footprint, the kind of guys who make Little Giants, and why the team ... indeed every Wabash team ... never quits and Always Fights.

There may be similar experiences elsewhere ... but from my prejudicial perch ... I believe the Little Giants ARE special.

I'm ok with Huff not jumping out of a perfectly good airplane a week or so before training camp.   :)

Any Wittenberg posters been around lately?  I haven't heard much from Springfield.  I'll see what I can do to get some info.  Can't wait to see how things shake out this year.

Go Tigers!

It puzzles me that with the large fan base, the tradition and history of winning etc. that there is not more Tiger participation out here.

Would love to hear how camp is going for Witt, how the QB spot is coming along?  who has established themselves in the backfield other than Vanover?   How the secondary is coming along? and how they feel heading in to the Capital match-up?   Any info would be great.
