I'd be curious to the thoughts of others on the subject of how much contact should take place during pre-season camp. According to an article in the local Wooster paper, a tremendous number of players are already hurt, with at least a few with concussions. Seems like a lot of injuries considering there has only been one week of practice. I know this was a problem for Wooster a few years ago. I know that football is a physical game and that you need to obviously do some physical drills, but does it do much good to have a third of your team banged up before the season even starts?

Anyone know if OWU, DEN or KEN have scrimmages this week?

Great to have Selby back, healthy and ready, nice feature on him on the Wabash site.

I can already tell I'm going to enjoy watching scotty rehash every witty Wabash joke ever made this season.  Perhaps you should follow up your tour de force "boy" joke with one inferring that we're all homosexual.  That'd be awesome, you comic god.

Why is it that Wabash posters are entitled to rip on anyone they see fit, but it doesn't work the other way? The reason most posters take shots at Wabash is that posters come out of the woodwork stating how they great they are going to be every year at this time. These are the exact same posts that were made before the 2003 & 2004 seasons. How did those work out? I suppose if you keep predicting greatness every year once in a while you will be right.

smedindy

Why is there are always posts about the sensitivity of Wabash posters, yet nothing about when other schools get all defensive and huffy?

Works both ways, ya know!!

Oh, I didn't say you can't rip on us, but for chrissakes come up with something besides "boy school" and "gay" jokes.  It's been done, and far better than by the likes of you guys, so give it a rest and come up with something inventive.

For instance, make fun of our zealous nature about Wabash like Seinfeld.  At least that's true.  Sure we harp on and on about how great Wabash is...but that's only because it is. ;D

I haven't seen much of anybody predict squat for Wabash.  I've seen people talk about being excited and anxious for the start of the season and I've seen people talk about players being in shape and having good camps thus far...I haven't seen anybody, Wabash fan or otherwise, annoint Wabash as a champion of anything.

Contact in practice?  There isn't a right or wrong answer to this.  John Gagliardi's practice habits are well documented and his teams seem to do fine every year.  I don't know for sure, but I would guess that some or all of the other top programs in D-III (MUC, Linfield, Rowan, Trinity, etc.) run their practices with a lot more contact than SJU does and they seem to be alright every year.  If Wooster's players are getting hurt in contract drills this summer, I'd call it bad luck long before I called it bad coaching.

BashDad

Good post, Wally--and very accurate.

gobash, never would suggest that as my older son graduated from the Citadel, pre Shannon Faulkner...also, my youngest son considered Wabash in his top 3 choices...however, as someone who is involved in athletics, i never enjoy seeing a young man's accomplishments made light of even in jest...i think its a great recruiting tool and shows the overall support of athletics at Wooster...good luck to you guys this year...

seinfeld, from what i know it was just a freaky week at practice and an unusual scrimmage...im excited about the group of running backs, fresh legs in the 4th quarter...

Who do the Wabash faithful think will start at QB this year? I thought Harbaugh was pretty solid, and was surprised that Creighton (coaches pick their own players for HM status on all-conference team) didn't select him for all-conference. But when I was raised this point last year, Wabash fans didn't seem to think that much of him. What's the word this year?

Who do people scrimmage this week? I know Wooster plays B-W this Saturday at home. Wabash and Wheaton play again? I'd be curious if Witt plays Muskingum, since Woo opens with the Muskies.

wally_wabash

Wabash has their Red/White Scrimmage on Saturday then goes up to Chicago for a scrimmage against Wheaton September 3.

QB at Wabash is in the air so far as I've heard.  If I had to venture a guess I'd say it comes down to either Harbaugh or Huff (again).  I think the difference this year is that one or the other will be THE guy and won't have to be looking for the hook after every incomplete pass.  Personally, I don't care which one Creighton picks so long as he has total confidence in whichever qb he goes with.  Both are fine qb's, but the starter has to have 100% of the coach's support.  I'm not sure we had that last year.

And I would be remiss if I didn't say that I think any qb that has played since 2002 at Wabash was going to get an unfair shake if they did anything less than what Knott did during his senior year (whcih they weren't going to do).  We got spoiled for four years (and especially those last two years)...it was going to be very hard for anybody to come in and get high praise after 2002.

Bashbacker765

I would have to agree with Wally.  We need to get 100% backing for the QB posistion.   I think Huff is the best bet.  He is more athletic then the other QB's.  Neighbor shows a lot of promise.  Personally I don't think Harbaugh knows how to win, but if the coaching staff decides he the man, then we need to back him 100%.

gobash, come on...we still love you...dont be afraid to show your feelings...what a great time of the year...its getting close to kickoff...
