Now that I have somewhat recovered from my total meltdown.   I have had time to reflect on other things about the game that were good and bad.

Bart Banach & Guerrero were awesome all day.

Mike Russell - Not playing much.

Our O-Line seemed to protect Huff pretty well.

Our running game, outside of the first one or two drives disappeared.  I give a tough FC Defensive front all the credit for this.

Rupp, is a very good QB and made many things happen today to keep his team in the game.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Quoteding! ding! ding!

Just praying that isn't the sound of the Monon, headed south.

Meltdown allowed, Sir.  Up until 21 seconds left, that was a darned entertaining game, even over the radio, for both teams!

Tough day for the NCAC.  1-7 overall, and the single win feels like a wake (as Wally said).  At least Witt and Gheny had the good sense to take the day off.
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

Don't you mean they had a scheduled day off?    ;)

Kenyon gave up the second fewest points (only one more than OWU)?     ::)

Why wasn't the Oline on the hands team then?  :-X

sorry, bad attempt at cheering it up a little.

Case will be 3-0 overall, and 3-0 against NCAC teams by next Saturday evening.  By then, they will have defeated Oberlin, Denison, and Kenyon.

Given that OWU is nothing special, and Wooster is currently winless, Case could go 5-0 against the NCAC this year, and should probably be proclaimed the NCAC champion.

;)

This past week against Denison, we had 25 first downs, compared to only six for the Big Red.

The MOV has been better than the last few years, but that 3-0 has been a given.

I wouldn't be so quick to put the fish on the stringer.  Woo showed improvement unless the three long passes were breakdowns on Waynesburg's part.  Their ground game has been non-existent though.  Definitely CWRU's best shot at the Scots since 2002.

And all you Wallies note he did put a wink after that champion talk.

Who wants to hold the money on this bet? :D

My Random Thoughts....WC vs FC

The Franklin TD catch in the corner of the endzone was a good call by the Refs...
Pass interference was missed more than once in the game....
WC Oline did very well....very well indeed....
Adi was and is sensational....
Bart and Gabe.......congrats on fine performances.....

..............and of course Huff with 477....in the rain....tough field conditions....guys falling and slipping all day....of course.....even so....a Day for the Record Books....

But....All of the above "feels" so moot at this point in light of the last 24 seconds of the game.....

Yes the silence that came over that field was unlike anything I had ever experienced......the physical pain wrapped in the emotional pain for Huff was all consuming it seemed as he wrapped a towel around his head and face and was carted off......a moment in my life I will not ever forget....

The stars seemed to be lined up for this team.....
Now this great loss of our Man Huff.....

Great losses never make sense in this life....
                           Death in an auto accident....
                           Death of relationship in divorce....
                           Loss of great wealth....
                           Cancer............etc

Great losses are part of this life.....
I don't understand the decision to put Huff on that team....

I do have the deepest of respect for CC and his "Program"

I Trust that this event will produce an ...effect...in my own son's life as well as many of the Wabash faithful....that will cause an even deeper level of perseverence and depth of character for the lives ahead of them....

I was at the Wabash game on the track when the injury occured.

I have no inside information.  But as my name suggests I am a doctor and they way they were treating his injury, it was very serious.  People are not in that type of pain from a sprained ankle, and he was in pain both emotional because he knew how serious it was and physical because of his facial expressions.

Once again I have no inside info but I would not expect to see Huff play another game for Wabash.  I definitely don't see him back for Wittenberg.  Depending on type of injury maybe back by the very end of the season but I think that is even a long shot at best.

I hope I am wrong and I wish Huff and his family the best.

I just don't see how you risk putting Huff on the field in that situation.

Any true football fan---whether friend or foe of Wabash---has to really be hurting for Dustin Huff. Great plarer coming back for a potentially great 5th year...really, really unfortunate. But to equate his injury to death and cancer is embarrassing...pathetic. We all love the game and our teams....but please...

Thought they had this one in the bag at half-time (as they must've too)...

Credit to Waynesburg for overcoming and staying with it down 28-7 at half-time, plus the fumble at the goal line right at the end of the half preventing a score.

Waynesburg tb was definitely the best athlete on the field.

Hope Wooster stops that 'hammer' chant when they're on defense.

Tough win for sure for the Little Giants yesterday, kills you to see a 5th year senior that has worked this hard for his last run.  No matter what happens, Dustin Huff will rebound and be a better person for going through this.  It has been fun to see his maturity over the years and I, personally, expect to see him again before the season is over.  He and CC have a special relationship - no doubt.  I just hope its prior to a potential playoff run.  Can you imagine the boost he could give if that happens?

Easy to pounce on CC, no doubt, hindsight is 20/20 but let's realize something...  Chris Creighton is 30-5 at home at Wabash, he is 54-12 at Wabash, he's had 2 undefeated teams, and 3 NCAC championships in his 6 years - he knows what he is doing.  I have confidence that he will play the cards he has been dealt (tough hand).  He's had Jake Knott, Russ Harbaugh, and Dustin Huff - I believe he will find a way.  Whether it is 6'6 Matt Hudson or Kyle Augustonivicz - this QB will have 3 things going for him:  1)  He is loaded with weapons - Green, Guererro, Rode, Graham, Banach, and Russel - plus, Sobecki will be a force, just wait.  He played hurt yesterday and still showed flashes (the clutch catch and run, the 3rd and 2 hit behind the line...  +5, etc.).  2)  This O-line is solid.  Even banged up, they look good & huge - now plug Isaacs back in when he gets back, and then Shaver should add depth.  The QB should get good protection.  3)  CC - no doubt he will have to adjust to play calls but he will use the weapons he has and he will make it work.  He actually thrives on this stuff and his ability to motivate players, develop QBs, and pull the team together are all pieces of what has made him so successful at Wabash.

Yes - maybe an optimistic view on a very tragic moment, BUT, this is a talented team, led by talented coaches, with strong senior leadership (including Huff), that will do their best to achieve the same team goals that were set prior to the season.  Nothing changes.

How about the story-line if Huff can make it back?

Thoughts & prayers to Dustin and his family!  Thoughts & prayers for the Wabash football family!  Keeping the faith....

INQBSCOUT,

You are absolutely right, this is embarassing, much as we all love football it is a GAME and they are comparing it with life and death.  It is terrible that Huff was injured but to compare it to death and cancer is also terrible!

As I said in an earlier post Tony Sutton was on the hands team for Woo when he was there.

I wouldn't be too hard on CC, not that he will lose much sleep over it.  :)
