WooMeister85,

Excellent post. I can't speak to some of the specifics that you mentioned, but from an overall perspective, you are absolutely right that athletic facilities have basically been ignored for about a decade. It hasn't been made a priority by the school, and that tone was mostly set by an administrative member who both doesn't understand nor likes athletics.

But now is the time to hit this topic hard. I'm sure the new president is interested in hearing alumni voices, particularly those that have been mostly shut out for some time now.

The Augies are brothers, so there could be some interesting talk around the Thanksgiving dinner table for sure!

BTW - I checked the VSE reports for some liberal arts colleges in FY 2006.

Macalester had more giving to athletics than St. John's.  ::)

Swarthmore reported $466,000 of giving to athletics.  :o

NCAC totals (of those who reported):

Allegheny - $115,000
Wooster - $31,500
Denison - $73,000
Kenyon - $31,000
Wabash - $3,000

Oberlin and Witt did not break out athletics giving.

Earlham, OWU and Hiram did not report to the survey.

Nike, chilly,Scotlass, Woo CAN get by Witt if they've done their homework. O-line at center and right is pretty weak. Had punt, FG and EP blocked there already. Tight coverage on receivers nixes passing plan. Stop tailback. They only go to FB as last resort. Coaches have a potentially very good team but seem to have done a 180 over past several years plans. They are using  alot of young guys to get by now and build experience for next couple years. I've seen most practices, most of summer camp, all of last years JV games, of course varsity games. They seem to have benched players who saw alot of time last year and showed a lot of promise as varsity contributors. Any body gets hurt and they are in for a hum since they do very little subbing. Rumors of many defections for next year.

That's too bad. It doesn't help the conference when some of the historically tougher teams are having difficult years. Today's Wooster paper has comments from Fincham and Schmitz about the upcoming game:

OWU didn't share any info?  Shocking.   :)

Wooster has not won at Witt in 58 years?
Wow!!! That is a serious stat. Did not know it had been that long. Witt has to be my favorite stadium of all the NCAC schools. Plus the location, the way you walk up the steps in the front and are level with the concession stand and then go down to the seats. And the trees are always beautiful.
Now I know why I haven't been watching the games much these last 58 years.

Wittdad - Please box up the videos you have taken of the Witt defensive coaches communicating signals and meet Belichek at the Turkey Run Inn at 2:00 am Friday.  Park your car and wait for further instructions.  ;D

I don't typically have much to say, but...Here goes!

As someone close to the program, I don't see the same things you see.  Yes they've had some issues on special teams, I'll give you that.  Guys don't get "benched,"  they lose their spot to someone that is better than them.  Historically, Wittenberg has never played a guy to prepare for next year.  Wittenberg expects to win every year, so getting ready for next year can wait until the offseason and next year.  You sound to me like someone who's son thought he was gonna play a lot this year and didn't do enough in the offseason to make that happen.  And for those who want to defect, bye, see ya, and so long.  If you aren't committed to the success of the program, then I'm sure they don't want you there anyway.  Enjoy the game on Saturday! ;D

Go Tigers!!!

wittdad-Always nice to give out info on things you view as "your" team's potential deficiencies/weaknesses. Did you travel up to Olivet and Alma, or do you just hang around the campus area checking out the co-eds under the guise of observing the FB team? In either case your loyality and "assistance" to the program are dubious, at best.

I agree on Witt's stadium. Btw, whatever happened to the Witt punter, senior in 2005, great hang time...had some NFL interest. Maybe the Scots are ready to strap it up and get a W. Go Scots.

UNO and OT,

As the blacksheep of the family it's not my job and was hoping someone would speak up.

Been quiet most of this season, at least on our own board.  Went to the Cap game and stood and watched most of the game.  Most of the game because par for the course MacLeod was late.  Had great conversation with one of our economics professors on matters ranging from the UAA scheduling agreement to one of Wittenberg's own professor's sons starting at linebacker for Capital.

Wittdad,

Time to let go of momma's titty.

From my POV in the Cap game the center is a solid ball player.  The right guard is his on field counselor as the center seems to have some of the same psycho ticks as former Tiger greats. (  ;) Jonathan )  The center didn't always want to return to the huddle mentally if not physically and the right guard talked him up and away from talking back at a defense toeing a line.

Have unaBASHedly disapproved of the pistol since first witness in Crawfordsville a few years back, but want to go on record.  Started taking notes when the econ prof loaned some binoculars and with some gridiron experimentation in my own endeavors it is growing on me.  Would love to yak about this but loose lips sink ships.
