As for the rest of the league, the most intriguing matchup is OWU vs. Wooster. Which band of fans will stop with the sackcloth and ashes on the head, break free of their three friends, and go to the game to suppor tthe team.

/obscure?

Being a fan who has supported the team through camp, 4 pre-games, 4 full games, and 4 post games, in person, without a sackcloth and ashes, as I don't have room for them with my banners, bells, and sundry other noisemaking devices, I can speak to this. I will also put Woo's home game day atmosphere up against that of any other NCAC opponent or any D3 opponent, for that matter, during the regular season. The only exception being the Monon Bell game.

Woo heads into this 0-4. BUT, let's analyze this further.

1st, with the kind of losses Woo had to graduation, fans expected this season to be a challenge in comparison. The JCU and Witt results are understandable to a point (maybe not 58-7 though). The Waynesburg and CWRU results are the difficulty and provide for most of the unhappiness.

2nd, Woo is 0-4 against teams who have a combined win/loss record of 14-2.

JCU (now ranked #24) is 3-1 with the one loss being against #9 ranked ONU and they just beat now #17 ranked BW.

Waynesburg and CWRU remain unbeaten.

Witt is 3-1 with the one loss being against #8 ranked Capital.

3rd, OWU is 1-3 against teams with a combined win/loss record of 12-5, none of whom have played a similar caliber of opponents as Woo opponents JCU/Witt have, as noted above. OWU has lost to #16 Wabash, the only top 25 ranked team in the whole mix of games played thus far by OWU and all their opponents.

With all of that said, the game is at Papp, with the band and Pipers present. It's Homecoming and Woo fans will come out for the game, in person, to loudly support the Scots without sackcloth and ashes, as they have at all 4 previous games... make no mistake about that.

As far as Woo postings on here go, any intelligent analysis of the previous games would include identification of opportunities for improvement. Anything less would be nothing but a bunch of rah, rah fluff and an underestimation of Wooster fans.

I think this board is fairly devoid of rah-rah fluff, which is a good thing.

I do think Wooster has a chance for sure on Saturday.

Bashbrother,
Thank you! Must have gotten my school websites crossed. 7-58 will do that to you. Fortunately only have a couple calls to backtrack. Still might be worth the trip. Hiram will be at Wooster that day, right?

I think it would be worth the trip.  There have been some classic games in this series lately.

It would be nice if 2007 is a repeat of 2003 at Hollett.

That game was a blast.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

2003...Wittenberg @ Wabash.  Best. Homecoming. Ever.  We even had a band that day.   ;D

Finally found something on CP Porter.  Scotty - just for you...he scored the winning TD vs. Penn last season  ;D

He was also a state finalist wrestler placing 5th in the state at 152.  Nice quotes from Tom Allen in the article above.

Sobecki's Junior season...830 yards rushing on 111 carries, 7.5 average, 14 TDs...276 yards receiving on 10 catches, 27.6 average, 4 TDs...shared playing time with Bennett and Futa both seniors for combined 1481 yards on 210 carries, 7.1 average, 23 TDs...the 3 Headed Monster combined for 2311 yards and 37 TDs...Sobecki is a great blocking back...extremely unselfish...

Senior year, ACL in preseason...what could have been...

If my memory serves me right, not too shabby on the baseball diamond.

Btw, the Penn offensive line his junior included Bemenderfer(Notre Dame), Bugg(Indiana) and Lundorf(Depauw) along with a few others...
Boo Creepy Foot Doctor, Hooray Beer.

Not a bad O-line. Wish they would all transfer to Wooster.
Supposedly a couple top high school players will be on Wooster sidelines Saturday. Players that would help immediately next year.  Game could have far reaching implications. Also being looked at by other NCAC schools and D2 and a few D1 colleges. More than just two letters a week.
Can't wait for Saturday. Best hot dogs and popcorn in NCAC.

Scotty ... me ... boy

Take a chill ... we all love Sobecki.  Nothing would make me happier (or Sobecki happier ... and for sure ... you happier) than for him to have a 100 yard+ day.  I hope that day is next Saturday followed by a repeat the following Saturday.

I like Kimp ... different style but hard working runner.  I like CP ... young but playing his heart out when given the chance.

So lets not be so thin skinned about some p[erceived slight toward Penn for pete's sake.  A good HS with talent/tradition in football.  So is Center Grove.  So is Ben Davis.  So is Cathedral etc. etc. etc.  (Not to mention Roncalli ... just so the rooters from there don't get their bowels in an uproar.)

I for one am anxiously awaiting the advent of a dominating Sobecki which ... even without your editorial and historical help ... I believed would happen and believe now ... will happen and hopefully soon.

SO:  Go Wabash ... beat the Gators and then the Witts. .... both very fine teams with great tradition ... just like good 'ole Penn.

Nawwww…it’s never too late.

Just put a rabbit’s foot in your left pocket, a four leaf clover in your right.
Cross the fingers on both hands while holding a clove of garlic in the left and a horseshoe in the right.
Close your eyes and turn around seven times clockwise on a penny placed heads up while wearing your clothes inside out…..
and if all else fails just have somebody slap you real hard.  ;D
