Game Day in Delaware for Saturday:
          55 with possible rain...
This has to be the Bishop upset for 2007
Homecoming: To bad that OWU bills this weekend as an EVENT.
Information that went out to alumni didn't even mention that a football game was being played....Lax, field hockey and other EVENTS were promoted.....That has to change...and  quick....
Lunch at Bunns..then on to Selby for the game..
GO BISHOPS

1/4 inch rain today, 30% chance tomorrow afternoon.  ScottLass said Woo played tough last week in Meadeville. So looking to see another good effort. Also coming to again see a team I feel will be playing in Alliance in a few weeks.  A number of good high school players at game tomorrow. Quality players and a couple studs will turn this thing around. Was reminded earlier this week that Woo was 8-2 last year. Time does go quickly.

Has Selby ever been close to being filled?  Imagine if OWU ever had a great team like Wabash or even Witt has had.  Even Mt. Union only holds about 5000 I think.  Don't you have a new AD? What if he woke up one morning and said, "I want a team to fill Selby."? Seems like a good product down there good be a heck of a revenue stream. 10,000 seats filled every  home game. Hope new president at Wooster is thinking along those lines.

Bold, Meister.  Very bold.

I expect a game effort from Wooster tomorrow.  However, Wabash, IMHO, has a pretty distinct advantage at nearly every position on the field (save placekicker and probably RB...but the difference in offensive line play negates the RB advantage Wooster may have enjoyed) and a heavy, heavy advantage in terms of experience.  These seniors aren't about to share this title with anyone and won't let this game get away.  With as much adversity as this squad has faced this season, a wet track isn't going to keep them from acheiving some major team goals this weekend.

I'm out for C-bus in a couple of hours.  Looking forward to a little Columbus fun tonight and a fun game with a spirited crowd tomorrow.   :)

Here's dedication for you...before I get set to leave for Delaware, I check the D3 Football!!
Nike: The AD has been "New" for a a couple of years....Selby hasn't been full in my life-time...I know the "Old-Timers" of the 1950's had it filled....back when they played Bowling Green, UConn and others.....I hope somebody connected with the program thinks we can get at least 5-7 thousand in one of the best stadiums in D3 to see a game. I expect 1650 for the game (OWU posts the number 1700 alot).... Numbers for 2007 are down from 2006. With the heat turned-up on recruiting competition in Ohio...I will see what kind of recruits are on the sidelines on Saturday. Capital, Witt. Case all look solid this year and can give OWU fits for new talent. I know of a couple of players at a Ohio HS state play-off school (Big Division), that have had looks from D2/D3 programs, but would prefer D3 for the concentration on the books/future. The Bishops have not been in contact with them, and they are both honor students. OWU is a sleeping giant...Santa: All I want are CHAMPIONSHIPS at OWU....GO BISHOPS

OldWabash,

NO DOUBT, our single scoreboard is brutal!  If I were a scoreboard sales guy, I'd be calling Vernon Mummert tomorrow...soccer, baseball, and football - all really bad and below normal standards.  Wabco - add that to your list, bigtime!

Re:  Wabash/Wooster tomorrow...no matter how I look at this game tomorrow, I can't see Wooster winning.  Bash just has too many horses, strong leadership, focused effort, & strong coaching.  Go ahead, bet against Pynenberg & Co. - just can't see it.  I hope Bash takes care of business and keeps this from a close game.

1-0 tomorrow.

aueagle and nike:

Having been interested for years in the history of college football, I have visited OWU and Shelby on trips down Columbus way.  Indeed that would be awesome (9,000-10,000 per game at Selby), especially with all the great old-time tradition there as has been discussed in the past.  However, unfortunately, I don't see that happening.  St. John's is closest to having 10,000 per game in DIII of recent and even Dayton in I-AA (FC Division I mean ;)), has trouble drawing that now in a nice Welcome Stadium, despite having 9-10,000+ average several years ago after dropping from DI to DIII before the DIAA days.  With all Mount Union's success, you would think they would draw more as well, and their stadium is neat also.

I am not sure as to all the reasons why OWU can't draw more for fans as well as student-athletes, especially for football and again with all the great old-time fb tradition including the great old, newly refurbished Shelby Stadium.  As you have mentioned, for sure, competition in recruiting among all the schools including the improvement in the DII schools in Ohio (just like MI) has much to do with it.  Also, perhaps the price of tuition there (yet it is in line with most of the other Ohio small colleges and universities, so perhaps that is not really an issue).  On the other hand, you also have to put out a good product (winning fb teams) consistently and OWU has not.  Yet, even when that is done at many of the small schools, attendance increases are still hard to accomplish.  Too bad because it is a good deal for families and individuals, if interested in good college fb (aside from the DI big-time level).

Regardless, it would be good to see OWU improve, similar to like our Olivet has in recent years.  I see the two as similar in that regard, although obviously, Olivet a much smaller school.  Just some of my general thoughts on this.

Scotlass - interesting you say "with a game this big"

It isn't a big game? All of them are, but I gathered this one certainly was for Wabash and it's also an opportunity for Woo to show some marked progress on a difficult season. Figured it would be worth the $15 if one couldn't be there.

Both the soccer and baseball facilities could use some significant upgrade.  A real scoreboard and permanent seating for the soccer field are much needed.  When you could consider the quality of the Allen Center.   We could certainly do better with these facilities.

Rainy and wet conditions haven't bothered the Wabash passing game in the CC era nearly as much as strong winds have.

Update: 30 mph winds for gameday. And I only had to use my voodoo doll once!  ;D

From 7:00 AM update - Wayne County Airport in Wooster...

High 57, Low 32; Chance of light, rain showers 45%; Wind at 15-20, WSW
Might make for interesting day for the flying kilts, chasing Russell, Guerro, Banach, Rode, Liska, and Green around the pitch...while Sheppard tests the lines.  A battle commences along Killbuck Creek in six hours.....

Might need to break out that pin cushion during the pre-game, scrapple and eggs breakfast, ScotLass.   ;D
