What would the trophy be? We can't have a rivalry without a trophy.

It would be hard to keep it filled with beer constantly.  I would have to rest from time to time, and the top of the Bell is a little leaky.

When I was at Wabash, DePauw kept the Bell perched up on a little shelf in their gym.  In 1998 the Bell turned up "missing" from its perch on Halloween night.  After that DePauw went to putting the Bell in some sort of case that I'm pretty sure isn't easy to get in to.  Pansies.

DePauw has done some weird things with the Bell in their past including but not limited to secretly locking it up in a utilities shed and burying it in an endzone.

Everyone said Wabash had more fans than Wash U. did at the game. So it was kind of like a trip to the lower part of the NCAC for us. I know that we almost outnumbered Denison's crowd a few years ago. Then there's the trips to Oberlin and Hiram. And if we ever play Kenyon again.

'Tis a shame that some of the other schools can't get their students to come to the game.

Ahh - nothing like a brew tipped out of the Bell! :)

It would seem that a kilt with red and white stripes would be a fitting prize for the winner of Wabash/Wooster.  Winning coach has to wear it for the following year's game.

Its funny how some of you Wooster guys hate on Witt so much.  Although, I guess I would be bitter too if my school had gotten their a#$ kicked by a team for the better part of 60 years.

As you will recall, the Bell was "retrieved" by a group of "Mexican Exchange" students and friends from the locked storage shed.  As for burying it in the endzone ... the dumba$$e$ fro mDanniland did that ... then there was a freeze and at the end of the game they had a backhoe working to dig it out in time for Wabash t take it home.  The mindset which hides the Bell and bury's the Bell ... what?

Wabash displays it proudly and guards it well.  Dannies hide it and bury it ... that says it all about the character of the two places.

I agree with you that it is too bad some of the schools can't get more of their students out for the game.  One question though:  even though Wash U. is having a down year this season, do you think that low attendance might have been because students were not on campus if Wash U is on the "old" trimester schedule that Chicago is still on and that Mich State used to have?  I am not sure if Wash U is, but if so, that could be a reason for low attendance at early season games.  I know it has happened at other places, and it happens in mid-Oct at some DIII schools when they have Fall Break.  The students almost all go home (or at least off campus) during the latter, which is why most of the schools try to schedule an "away" game for the time of those Breaks.

Wasn't there a big article in Sports Illustrated in the mid-90's on the Monon Bell game and some of the great stories on the Bell being stolen in the last few decades?  I recall seeing that and some of the stories of both schools heist capers are really fantastic! (although not to the local law enforecement departments at C'ville and Greencastle!  ;D
