I'll speak on the Witt front.  I don't think the Puppies will be able to hold Witt in check at all.  Not at home, not on senior day, and not with all the positive energy surrounding Witt athletics as a whole right now (this is shaping up to be a great weekend for Witt athletics).  I would expect to see a lot of Witt's bench take the field this week in trying to see exactly what this team has in store for next year (because, barring more miracle losses this weekend that would get Witt a Pool C, this is it for them).

I think the game of the weekend could be Wooster/Kenyon or Allegheny/Oberlin.  All middle of the pack teams that want to end their seasons on the best possible note.  Should make for a fun weekend.

I wish most everybody with a 50/50 record in Div. I didn't get a bowl bid and that there was enough time/money in Div. III to allow most teams on the bubble to play on after the regular season. Maybe somewhere in the middle between these 2 extremes of college football would be best, if not perfect?

Great question nike.....Hymes played one game and is a Sr...Boff (Jr) plays when Fisher (Frosh) needs a rest. Will Hymes get a medical and be able to play in 2008? Beats me....that's a NCAC/NCAA question or somebody else that know's. Maybe after graduating he might say, "I am outta here." I like Boff alot, because of his arm...but Fisher fits better in the "H" offense because he is a runner. If Boff is smart...he stay patient...Bishop QB's get beat-up.
Case Western game....Coach Debelijak has done a great job in Cleveland. He has a great connection to the Northeast Ohio HS coaches...and his recruiting has shown off. Spartans average 38 pts /game...CWRU "D" holds 'em to 13.7pts. On paper, Bishops don't stand a chance in Cleveland....we'll see.
GO BISHOPS
You know, I still remember Hollway saying at NCAC preview back in August that he thought Hymes would be back next year, too.  As if his year at Witt did not count against him(Hymes). We shall see.
Anyway, good luck with Case. Wooster will have hands full, but hope they keep playing at current level.

Going back a little over a week ago for the Michigan vs Minnesota game the announcers were saying that the little brown jug is the oldest trophy in the NCAA for football.  Did they mean D-1.  Bash fans how long has the Bell been traded back and forth?

cave2bens

Though this is the 114th game, the Monon Bell became part of the series in 1932.
The Brown Jug is about thirty years older, though the rivalry certainly isn't.

Well, yes and no.  Michigan and Minnesota first played in 1892 (116 seasons ago), but there have only been 96 games in the series (since the Big Ten doesn't play a full round robin, and some earlier years were also missed).  But despite the Little Brown Jug, it is hard to sustain much of a rivalry when one team (Michigan, of course!) leads the series 69-24-3 (with most of Minnesota's wins coming more than 50 years ago)!

aue, if you subtract the 21 pts that the O and ST gave up, the D is only giving up 11.4!!

Wabash and Depauw first played in 1890.   :)

My apologies for mentioning those johnny-come-latelies of the jug!  I assumed the bell game was the 114th consecutive meeting (which would mean starting in 1894).  What years were missed?  (I'll guess 1918 [influenza pandemic] and 1942-44 [WWII] - right?)

To the media guide!

Since 1890, Wabash and DePauw missed the following years:
1897-1899
1904
1910 (Wabash cancelled the latter half of their season after Sap Wilson died from an injury suffered in the fourth game of the year)

The series has been played every year since 1911.  The math doesn't quite add up on first glance because the teams played twice the 1900 and 1901 seasons.

Thanks, wally.  (Twice a year hadn't occurred to me, but was not that uncommon a century ago.)

Wally was at both of those games too!

Mr. Ypsi

That's OK; I confess to being at the original jug game! ;D

wally, I just re-checked the numbers: if they started in 1890, missed only 5 years, and played twice in two years, this would be the 115th meeting.  Somewhere there is still a missing game! ;)

Here's a good reference:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monon_Bell

Go down to year-by-year results.  They missed six games, 1897, 98, 99, 1902, 1904, 1910, and then played twice in `00 and `01.

I think you guys missed the `02 non-game.
