I should add that the attendance, or lack thereof, isn't just a DePauw issue - it's a conference-wide issue.  I know that's not earth-shattering, but an important point nonetheless.  Nobody travels particularly well in any sport.  When even Trinity or Millsaps comes to Blackstock for football, they might bring a fan base of somewhere between 25-75.

I don't doubt that Wabash fills the home side of their football stadium better than DePauw, but I am certain that they do a considerably better job of filling the visitor's side, too.  You're hosting Witt who comes with a few hundred, we're hosting BSC who comes with 40.

It's actually Wooster who travels better than any other non-Wabash school in the NCAC that I've seen.  Scots fans have The Passion™.

Any Wooster fans out there? How did Spring ball go, any game changing commits and hows the field coming along?  8)

I'm not "in the know" regarding spring practice at Wooster, but am on campus every day, and see the construction going on.  Work on the field started the day after commencement, about four weeks ago.  Thus far, the grass has been removed, and a lot of work has been done leveling the field and preparing the sub-surface (I think that there is little/no crown used for field turf.)  I'm expecting to see the turf installation begin any day.

Spring ball went very well, very intense- and the most focused I've seen. The lights are up on the field, and the turf should be installed in the next few weeks...I don't know much about recruiting though, the team doesnt post anything about commits, and I don't feel like Googling from the Admitted Students page- you're on your own there  ;)

Better than Wittenberg?  I've not attended 100% of our home games, but I've always been impressed by the numbers that come to the 'ville from Wittenberg.

I'd say so.  My perception has always been that Wooster brings as many or more to the the Hollett than anybody else in the league.  Wittenberg is close, but Wittenberg is also about 2-3 hours closer to C'ville than Wooster is.

Wittenberg fans might flock to C-ville in such numbers to see what it is like to have stands on both sides of the field?   :o  Actually, it is almost certainly because the game has decided the NCAC championship recently and the tradition of the program.   Wooster on the other hand, they just have flat out great fans that love to support their program.

I will say it is great to see schools and their fans supporting these student-athletes when they are on the road.   D3 is like watching minor league baseball or junior hockey, it is all for the love of the game.

This is the toughest part of the year for me, waiting to hear how the recruiting class is shaping up (k-rock throw me a bone) I guess it is just about a month and a half before they report.

They have BSC in the SCAC, but then there's Hiram, Oberlin, Kenyon and Denison going TO Wabash. Earlham isn't great shakes, either, but they're in state so some more parents come. But the Puppies and the Yeomen draw less than flies.

Interesting that they had a "signing ceremony" for a D-III athlete.....what actually did he sign?

Unless it was a deposit check, my guess would be nothing.  I think a lot of media simply use the phrase "signs with" when they talk about any student athlete committing to any institution, even though in the case of division III schools there aren't letters of intent actually being signed.

If they have a "The Passion" and they love to travel, what the heck is wrong with 45 miles and Alliance, Ohio? They apparently have dodged the bullet for two more years on a trip to The Raiders. A natural and an ole' OAC opponent too. ;D

What does Wooster gain from a week 1 game against Mount Union?

I can't even imagine how awful it must be for Mount Union fans to have to make two road trips every year...one for the far away non-conference game and one to the Stagg Bowl.  And the non-conference game isn't even on the road every year!  Let us all take a moment and really let this great injustice sink in.   I can't even imagine how rough it must be a player or a coach or a fan of the Mount Union program.  Yeah, you're probably going to win a national championship every single year, but that September road trip every other year saps all the fun out of it.  Woe is Mount Union....

I don't know how many times it has to be said...regional opponents of Mount Union have N-O-T-H-I-N-G to gain by scheduling them in week 1. There isn't a single good reason why any team sharing a region with Mount Union that thinks they have a good chance to make the playoffs should or would ever accept a home and home with Mount Union.  Ever.  It's not about that team being chicken or afraid or anything like that.  It's just stupid to kill your chance at a pool C bid before the leaves start changing color.
