Notre Dame was a huge attraction way before the arrival of television. At any rate Notre Dame had a very long, very high quality run which will be very difficult for others to match or exceed in the future.

Well, except that Michigan is way ahead in all-time wins.  (Despite 2008. :()

ND once had a monopoly on Catholic fans.  I just don't think they have the mystique anymore.  Plus, they suck! ;D

How about this info there Mr. Ypsi?

Days since Michigan's last victory over Ohio State in football: 2055 ;D

And counting
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Well, there is that 47-game winning streak by Oklahoma....

Notre Dame was Oklahoma's last loss and first loss bookending that streak (oh, and a tie after the Notre Dame loss...)

Now, of course, it'd take an act of God on a grander scale than finding the Nag Hammadi library to get teams like that to play each other in the regular season.

Yeesh.

On a personal note, I'm taking a 3-week medical leave / sabbatical. Doctor says no cell phone, no internet, no work. (No phone, no pool, no pets...)

So I'll see yas in August.

Jeesh!  At least it is only 3 weeks; summer won't be over yet! :D

I take my opponents one at a time.

Now, about the all-time UM-OSU record? ;D

[Oh, that's right, OSU is #5 :P]

BTW, does 57-42-6 ring any bells? :D

2009 LG football roster is up - 55 rhynies listed.  Though not as many Chicago recruits as DPU, perhaps those from OH, CA, and AZ will balance it out a bit.  ;)

The Fourth of July has passed.  The All-Star game is upon us.  Training camps open in the NFL in about three weeks.   Getting my fantasy football cheat sheets in order.

Time to start thinking about some football!

Did we stop thinking about football?   :)

Fans of the Monon Bell rivalry, don't bother watching ESPNU's 50 States in 50 Days "stop" in Indiana...as expected, an ND lovefest, including Lou Holtz saying he wouldn't be surprised if the Irish are playing Florida for the national championship...Old Oaken Bucket was mentioned as a great rivalry...not one second spent with even a mention of any team other than ND, Purdue and IU....great snapshot of college football in Indiana...

From the frosh on the roster, hard to pick out impact players ... Armbruster at LB and perhaps a couple of RBs, Austin Hodges and Vann Hunt remind me of the Wabash fast quick RBs while Kyle Stevens at 6'2" and 220 lb ... if he can get up steam quickly ... will be a Brock Graham load.

Looks like Coach R loaded up on lineman on both sides of the ball.  Some of these guys, after a year of training could be monsters ... although Polak at 6'5" and 280 and Zack Helman and Joe Magura at 6'2" and 270 or so along with Roncalli's Kitley at 6'4" and 280 or Carver from the town of Amboy to name several ... are monsters now.

Several QBs look good but they are a year away and could also turn out to be in the tranpositional ability of Billy King.  Maybe some of you know/have seen some of these frosh at the local HSs.  Any thoughts on anyone?

Thanks for the heads up.  I probably was going to skip it until I realized that today is right at about the single worst sports day of the year.  Seriously,  the only thing happening is the HR derby.  I'm a huge baseball guy, but if there wasn't a HR derby, I wouldn't lose any sleep.  Seriously, there is NOTHING happening today.  I'd even settle for Le Tour, but even they have an off day today.

Here's a good summer discussion topic...what sports days of the year are worse than the days sandwiching the MLB AS game?  Are there any?  I can't think of any off the top of my head.

There's a video clip of QB Chase Belton from Northmont in Dayton out on the net.  Kid gets up the field in a hurry.   Obviously it's a cherry picked highlight tape, but he strikes me as Weithoff-ish...tall, skinny, runs like a deer.  That might be a name to look for in a year or two.

Today is probably the worst...although the day after the Super Bowl is close IMHO...there is college b-ball, which is good, but all football is over, no baseball and the weather sucks...

At least this year I can watch the CONCACAF stuff during the All-Star Break.  Most years there isn't even that.  There's literally no sports on.

I usually find myself watching Big Ten Network Greatest Games or something equally uninteresting.

It was a pretty terrible sports weekend as well...at one point this weekend I caught myself watching a replay of Eastern Michigan vs. Michigan State.  I realized at that moment that I needed to make some changes.   :)
