Engine 99

I will speak s-l-o-w-l-y for you.  Occam's Razor.
1)  no to health ... see BashDad's easy common sense analysis
2)  no to another opportunity ... if this were the case, regardless of how unhappy DePauw may be about his leaving; he is leaving and would not be pushed into silence as to his coaches, players, and the general public (leaving his team in uncertainty ... and some turmoil one week before the parctices start ... the team he recruited over the last 3 years)
3)  What is left ... conduct (personal or violation of College or other applicable [NCAA] rules).  Fits with quit without notice.  Fits with no information fournished to coaches or team.  Fits with DePauw nailed down tight.  Fits with no discussion/information from his family. Fits with where in the world is Waldo.6 days and all quiet on Southern front.

Regardless of past success, no
Don't recall asking for your theory, but thanks!  And be sure to come find me at the tailgate this year ... really excited to meet you!

BashDad, I usually only visit this forum around Monon-time (the most wonderful time of the year) and decided to register once I learned of Walker's resignation so I'm not sure if you have thrown out your theory.  If you think illness is unlikely, do you believe the reason to be conduct, opportunity, or some other possibilty?

Clearly, I don't have any more information than anyone else. I don't know what happened. But my gut says conduct. I don't think it was some petty argument with administration that grew into a shouting match and a subsequent resignation-- not with this team coming back, this close to the season. I don't think it was a job offer, I think we would've heard by now. I don't think it's an illness, for reasons stated above. I think it's something very, very private.

And I'll say this too, which hasn't been discussed-- I feel his age is part of this whole thing. He graduated in '99 and became a head coach, at the same school, in '00. He coached guys he played with. I think that's problematic. That alone opens doors that you could find much harder to close when you'd like them to.  If he hung out with those guys, what's to say he didn't hang out with the guys they brought along, or the girls? He never left college. The delineation between student and professional is hard enough your first few years out, ask dustin hoffman, but it's got to be even more confusing when you remain at the same institution where you pledged, played, and partied.

At this point I've accepted we will never know exactly what happened. And by the time actual football starts getting played no one (DPU guys included) will care anymore.

Sorry to disappoint you Engine 99.  Will not attend a tailgate on odd numbered years.  Too many police barriers and administration imposed idiocies to contend with.  Rather watch it on TV.  Now, even numbered years are a different story.

I'm sorry to hear that Wadco. Now, is the real reason because you are afraid of the girls, or because you don't want to show your boyfriend a real University, and not just a college?

I just ask, because a true fan of the bell game, and what it stands for, would travel to the ends of the earth to watch. Personally, I know I have braved many years of traveling to Da Bash, even though it is the last place on earth I would ever want to visit.  Its worst than Houston.

I don't think you non-Texans have any idea how bad an insult that is.

FYI -  from an inside source at ISU,  the Baseball Head Coaching Job is as of today still open and the search continues.

More shocking than coach Walker's sudden resignation from DePauw of the NCAC kicking out Wabash -- John P. Papp Stadium is getting new restrooms!

Forget the new field turf, the toilet facilities were in much worse shape than the grass field. The locker rooms and bathrooms were so old, I'm surprised they were designated historical monuments and forbidden from being remodeled.

Word is that the visitors locker room will be painted pink with yellow daisies.

Black n Gold

Thanks for the info Seinfeld.....How is the field coming along? Camp opens today, will they be able to practice on it this week? I'm looking forward to the Black and Gold scrimmage next week  :)

Yo ... second stringer ... Breckenridgebear

Not only can you not write?  spell? ... but you do not even know what DePauw is good for

... afraid of DePauw women ... not me ... I married one.

As to the DePauw police/administration antics at Dannie hosted Bell games ... evidently you have missed the last number of them.  Michigan City is easier to walk around in.

Now back to the "where is Waldo/Walker" saga ... going on 7 days, nada ... and the "ISU, he took the great opportunity job" is debunked.

Practice starts today for Wooster, and yes, they are on the field. I guess they just finished the track resurfacing this week, so that is all good to go.

I will be in C'ville tomorrow closing on the sale of our Indiana house (finally, and it's serendipitous that I was going to be in town for that blessed event) so I may dig around for my own edification to see if anything shakes loose.

I'll be at Little Mexico at noon tomorrow. Use the following code:

"My hovercraft is full of eels"

I will reply

"I've put three by the bin but the dustman won't touch them"

Then you say

"Can I have 50 pounds to mend the shed?"

And give me the envelope with the secret info on Walker-gate.

Or just say hi....

Good luck to the Scots in preparing for what could be a special season.
