Evan's status is confirmed.  I suspect that Yoder will go into camp as the primary option at RB.  It's probably a good position for an incoming freshman to make an impact on.

On a side note, the Sr. football players are on their annual pre-camp trip-this one was a whitewater rafting/camping trip.  It's a good tradition that I'm glad to see upheld.

Wabash lines up and shakes after every game.  Everybody in the NCAC is doing this right?  Are there leagues in D3 that aren't shaking hands either before or after the game?

The last time I was at a SCIAC game, they were shaking after the game.  The same is true in the ASC and SCAC games I have seen. :)

Quote... the last couple of years DePauw had difficulty making their enrollment numbers ... while all the while the football team did very well.  (This year, by the by, the Dannies are on schedule to make their Frosh numbers, as I understand it.)  Hmmm

FYI...DePauw's incoming freshman class is one of the largest in the school's 172 year history. Just 18 fewer than the all-time record.

I can see this leading to trouble before the games...  can you see Tennessee and Florida shaking hands BEFORE the game this year??

Ha! No kidding. Or the Monon Bell game!
It sounds like this is a one-time thing. As for DPU and teams in the SCAC, teams always line up and shake hands post game.

Wabash and DePauw actually used to do this.  I think it stopped after the 1997 game...of course that was after a couple of cantankerous affairs (and the '98 game concluded with embarrassing events for both sides).  In fact, after a couple of those games I don't think the teams did a post game handshake either.  A decade later, I think the tone around our game has changed enough that if the teams were so inclined, they could step to the middle of the field and to an individual be sportsman enough to shake the other guy's hand.  I would hope that we could do that without incident.  I'd be in favor of bringing back the pregame handshake for the Bell game.

The '98 game had a handshake/pre-game brawl.  I believe that was the last one.  :)

I guess it could be a neat thing...especially for that game. But I wonder if, because it is THAT game, if it's asking for trouble? Probably could be pulled off...

How about Michigan and OSU?   ;D  IIRC, they almost brawled at midfield before the 2007 game!  And you want them to shake hands pior to kickoff???  Riiiiiiiiight...  ::)

Sorry guys, I must respectfully say that you are waxing nostalgic when it comes to pregame handshakes.  At least in the last 40 years (that's as far back my personal history goes) there have never been any pregame TEAM HANDSHAKES at the Monon Bell game.  Only the captains, as they ALWAYS have, shook hands before the game.  It used to be that the teams would line up behind the captains until that got too rowdy.  Then they were restricted to stay behind the hash marks, but there were lots of taunts and finger pointing going on.  Then for awhile the teams would come out behind their captains with their hands joined to show team unity.  That took the finger pointing away but did not stop the verbal taunting.  The last straw for allowing the rest of the team on the field was when the captains meeting ended and the two teams huddled to do their pregame ritual and the two huddles bumped into each other and started a shoving match which drew offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

The post-game brawl was what brought to an end to leaving the Monon Bell behind the team bench so there would be no melee if the Bell changed hands.  That is why the Bell is moved to the end zone sometime  in the 4th quarter during a close game.

But I have never ever witnessed any kind of team handshake before a Monon Bell game.  The only unusual pregame ceremony I saw was before the Wheaton-Wabash game just after September 11 when the two schools chose to play rather than cancel.  I believe there was something of a combined show of support for the victims' families and the USA.

I've always beleaved the hand shake should be post game, showing respect and sportsmanship, win or lose.
Done properly, this shows the leadership and class of the program and needs to start with the coaching staff, team captians, upperclassmen, and on down the line.Coaches need to take it upon themselves with severe punishments if something breaks out. Afterall, your  representing your school, your family, and yourself.
Sport needs to get back to "respecting your opponent " and eliminate the "woofing" toward your opponent. Beat their tails between the lines and within the rules. That should be most satisfying.

I'm with you old scot.  I don't like taunting on the field or from the stands for that matter.  I don't like the "Nah, Nah, Nah...goodbye" song being used at the end of games and heck I don't even like the guy running into the endzone without anyone within 15 yards of him and he still dives over the goal line.  I consider that showing off or showing up your opponent.  I know, I know, I'm an old fuddy duddy!

I don't know whether anyone else on this board ever got to see it but I always got a kick out of the way Indiana State celebrated victories during Larry Bird's time there.  When victory was achieved the band started in with the "Amen Chorus" and the students started singing and clapping along to the music.  It was a much more positive way to enjoy the victory without insulting the opponent.

Now, I have to go get my cane so I can chase those darned neighbor kids off my lawn.  ;D
