Your guess is as good as mine as to who the center will be.  A lot of different guys played there today and the scuttlebutt around the stadium was that there still hasn't been a guy who is emerging.  My suggestion is to shave Neymeiyer and give him a new number.  Nobody will notice.   :)

Reading back over my previous post, it seems I only hit the good stuff...I wasn't overwhelmed by the kicking game this afternoon.  Whitehead didn't kick today (must have been being held out for one reason or another), so the #1 guy at P/K wasn't out there.  But the only kick that went through was an extra point length kick.  Everything else missed pretty badly.  Also, I'm still not totally blown away with the run game.  Mambourg got most of the work with the 1s today, but I didn't see a whole lot after contact from him.  That's still going to be the big piece that is missing...that RB that can keep going after the first hit.  Derek Rowe looked like he had a little bit of burst, but he didn't get in until the last few series of the scrimmage, so I'm not sure how close to cracking the two-deep he is just yet.

Does anyone have observations to share from today's Wooster - Baldwin-Wallace scrimmage?  I couldn't make it.

D3 Poster

Kinda' mirror images of each other... experienced senior qbs, no running game, wide outs better than then dbs.

My observation of the Woo/ Bw scrimmage was a bit different than D3 Posters. Woo looked very sharp taking a 21-7 lead in the game situation/ 2 minute drill. Holter looked very good, throwing for 3 touchdowns and 150+ yards (no interceptions and maybe 11-14 throwing. He hooked up with 3 different recievers in McCann, Flagg and Franciscangeli for touchdowns. Woo ran a very basic offense, but executed well, although they had issues running the ball (with the QB's in red jerseys). As far as the DB play, Albani did not play much as it looked like Woo was letting Trout and the freshman Ogletree fight it out for the opposite corner position. The D line needs some work as we all knew, but all in all either Woo will be very tough this year or BW isnt that good (although they were picked to finish 3rd in the OAC behind Mount and Otterbein). I was happy with the performance today and can't wait for Waynesburg next week. GO SCOTS! ;D

Wally - excellent "take" on the scrimmage.

BashDad - Hackett got some work at Center today and I thought did a nice job.  With more work, he may be the guy.  (I have no inside info on that, just my 2 cents)  If he does win the job...we go 6'2 320, 6'6 305, and 6'6 300...that is just crazy.

BashBro - good comparison of James Pannell with former LG LB - TT Jackson.  That would be great for Bash if he could play to that level.

Anyone notice Studebaker (Wheaton grad) looking good in the NFL pre-season for the Eagles?  I think he is listed on the 2nd team.

BB16 -

yeah.... I thought TT was going to be a great one.  If you see a similar kind of player in Pannell, I am very excited about this years Linebacking crew.

Steady, mean and big in the middle with Watson and Gum, extremely athletic and super fast on the outside with Kraft and Pannell.   Being a great linebacker himself, I bet ER is very excited.

Wabash will find a center that will be fine.   Whoever gets the nod will have a ton of experience on all sides to bring him along.  I was somewhat hoping that Hackett would be our "Sapp" in the middle of the D-line, but trust that the staff will put him where he can help the team the most.

I am so ready for this season to kickoff.

Studebaker is having a good camp with the Chiefs (he was with Eagles last year), and it sounds like Ittersagen is doing well with the Jaguars as well.  Who knew Wheaton was a pipeline to the NFL?

Wabashcpa,

Thanks for the correction.  Good stories in both cases - for sure.

Article on Wooster QB Austin Holter from today's Wooster Daily Record...

Nice article on #6. I will say he looked very sharp against BW as well as the recievers. From the looks of the pregame and the current roster.....the captains for Wooster are:

Austin Holter #6 QB

Matt DeGrand #40 LB

Josh Clark #53 OL

Storm Tropea #60 OL

Don't know if you've had the opportunity to see that DePauw/Anderson match-up previously, but there probably won't be a whole heck of a lot to learn.  That's usually a pretty vanilla offensive gameplan from DePauw because they just don't need all the bells and whistles.  I'm sure Coach Long will run a few blitzes out in the first half, but unless things really fall apart, the plan in the past has been to keep Centre from having a whole game's worth of good film to look at.

Not a problem whatsoever, DoBW.  I'll be tweeting during games all year long...glad to know that people are checking it out.

I'll be in ODAC country this weekend (outside chance that I might get over to see the Randolph-Macon/King's game...would have loved to see CNU/Wesley, but alas that game is in Dover) and won't be able to see the scrimmage at Wheaton...please come back and give us a rundown on what you see on Saturday!
