And while I'm bored at work today, this is a good time to mention that the first week of games has been posted on the 2009 NCAC Pick 'Em board.  Any and all are welcome to play along!

You guys are also invited to join in the '09 OAC pick-em too.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

It feels like mid-March in here...yikes.

This is the one non-Wabash week the rest of the league gets in this room.  I'd suggest taking advantage of it.   :)

Soooo....what's worth watching in the NCAC this weekend?  Top things I'm looking for on Saturday:

- Huffman's return to action.  I'm a little amazed that so little has been made of this.  I think this is the biggest deal in the league this year and worth paying very close attention to.  Wittenberg's quarterbacks after Huffman broke his arm last year were, shall we say, not that good.  Witt's other injuries in 2008 notwithstanding, this was the one that snuffed out their season.

- High, high, high expectations coming from the Wooster camp...do they come out and bury Waynesburg (which they should) or do they trip up a little bit?  Sometimes when a team is too fired up to start a season, especially when the expectations are sky high, that first game can be a bit messy as everybody is a little too pumped up.  I can recall a couple of occasions during the CC tenure when Wabash looked less than top notch in their first game.  I think game 1 will tell us a lot about Wooster in 2009.

- Which direction does Denison go now that they are without Barnes and Berg?  This week's game against K'zoo will be telling.

- Can OWU figure out how to score some points?

- There's a freaking broadsword at stake in Richmond!  That's awesome under any context.

Thanks batman for the catch...see this is what can happen when you're too amped up to get the season going.   :)

For NCAC Pick 'Em players that have already picked...

I forgot to post the Earlham game this week vs. RHIT.  I've edited the original post with the week 1 games to include this game...if you've picked already, please don't forget to go back and pick this game!

I'm going to be running the MIAC pick 'em, in case anyone wants to wade through the fun that is St. Olaf, St. John's, St. Thomas, Bethel, and the rest...

Thursday's USA Today:  "Drake football coach Chris Creighton has suspended 14 players, including three starters, from Saturday's season opener against Grand View for an unspecified team violation ..."

Hmmm ... all not happy in the land of the Drakes

One of the things I always respected about CC, was no matter who you were or how valuable you were to the team.  If you broke the rules....you paid a price.  I Always cringed when I saw a personal foul flagged thrown on a Little Giant.   But because of the penalty, you truly didn't see many.

He'll get that ship in order.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Mr. Ypsi

There's a more detailed report on the Drake situation on the IIAC board, including some CC quotes.  Apparently he was torn whether or not to enforce the rule because he may not have explained it clearly and the 'incident' may have been an innocent violation.  (It involved getting together for beers at a time the players thought was OK, but wasn't.)

The fact that Matt Kraft is a Captain is absolutely terrific.... (as well as the other 3) the fact that Matt found his way back to Wabash though, after the adversity he faced before the start of the season last year is a truly great human story!  He will be a monster off the edge this year.

It tells everyone so much about who is he today and what he is going to be.  A great story.

Good luck tomorrow Fighting Scots! It's going to be a beautiful day for football and the opener on the new turf as well. Hope to see a lot of fans tomorrow to witness Wooster bring home their first W of the season.

My prediction on the game:

I think Wooster will want to prove a point. Not so much with a chip on their shoulder, but to set the tone for the season and let the people know that the Scots are here and ready to role. I think they will come out firing and if they can get a pass rush and keep Hightower in check......it could be a long day for Waynesburg (hopefully)  8) Wooster 38 Waynesburg 6

Of the two games which I saw on TV last night, one was played poorly, the other was played very poorly. The participanting colleges ought to be ashamed of charging admission - at least without an advance disclaimer concerning the likely quality of the games.

I couldn't agree more.  I always cheer on the boys, but given the adversity this kid has faced, the cheers for Mr. Kraft will be even a little louder this fall.

Headed to South Bend to see the domers this weekend!  It's Football Season!!!!!!
