Of the two games which I saw on TV last night, one was played poorly, the other was played very poorly. The participanting colleges ought to be ashamed of charging admission - at least without an advance disclaimer concerning the likely quality of the games.

That was 3.5 hours of agony for this Oregonian.  Buh-rutal.

Wally -

That must have been a tough game for any Duck Fan to watch.

I wish I could say that Boise State was just that good, but I cant.

Blaming it on coaching changes, the Blue Turf or just not being ready to play.   One thing became very clear last night though, their QB is simply not all that.  I don't see him at the helm after a few more weeks.

(Though, I don't have any room to really talk, my Cougars would have lost 45-0  ;D)

It was frustrating for sure...last night Oregon's WRs couldn't catch the H1N1 if they spent 10 days in Mexico City making out with every filthy pig they laid eyes on.  Then there were two completely brutal interference calls that helped BSU get points (I'm not one to complain about officials, but those two PI calls were just brutal).  And then the defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd down.  All of it adds up to maximum frustration for the players, and some hilljack from Boise gets popped in the mouth (so much for the double-A's sportsmanship initiative this week).  It was ugly.

But as long as that WSU flag is at Gameday on Saturday, I'll know everything in the world is still ok.  It's just a game, right?   :)

Very True.   I was just so excited for a 'Zero" defense; wide open shoot-out as the first game of the year.

Hopefully, tomorrow will have a couple good ones.

What! No comments on the sucker punch thrown by the Oregon player after the game?

He should be suspended for at least 4 games (or probably more) and the Boise St. player at least 1 for thrash talk.
Severe punishment will stop that junk and send a message to programs around the country that actions like this will not be tolerated. Then, maybe athletes will start acting like sportsman and not thugs.

Guess that concept of promoting good sportsmanship by making the teams shake hands before the game didn't carry over to after the game...  :-\

I fell asleep before the punch and just watched it.  The BSU player definitely said something, but the Oregon kid obviously should have had a little (a lot) more control.   The punishment will be severe.  Can't have that in College Athletics...(Except for Hockey  ;))

Didn't i hear that Bellotti, (Oregon AD) is high-up on the Pac-10 Rules Committee now?  That may make this penalty even a bit worse.

Blount had made some less than savory comments thus week regarding the nature of the beating that Oregon was going to put on the Broncos. The BSU guy simply turned Blount's own comments back on him...and then got hit in the face. I'm an Oregon guy, but if Blount wants prophecise an "[butt] whipping" then he's got to be man enough to take the smack when his team fails miserably. The kid is a mule and has tons of talent, but he's not very mature. This will be the second time that he will be suspended from football activities because of his conduct.

He's suspended for the rest of the season. And the NFL may sour on him now. Hope he stays in school to get that degree - or hope Phil Knight takes pity on him and hires him over at Nike.

It's too bad that this happened and there is no excuse for it, that being said, the kid that instigated it all should never have gotten to walk away clean. He put his hands on the other kid after the game was over and in my book, should receive some form of suspension also.

On to more important things. Anyone going over to Wheaton tomorrow? We will be there. I am so excited to see how we work against a quality opponent again. We certainly have a few cracks to fill, but year 2 in Raeburns system will be far smoother than year 1. The kids have grasped it and are now able to play without "thinking" about it as much. They know what they are doing. We will see tomorrow!

Blount is a knucklehead, pure and simple.  He's got three options now. He can put himself into the draft next year but his stock is in the tank because he's a stage 1 pacman. He can transfer to another school that doesn't have him in the doghouse...not likely because he won't want to sit out a year for transferring and miss two full seasons. Third, he can come back to Oregon next year and atone with a monster year. I'd love to see this...my gut tells me that Blount will declare for the draft and be the next Lawrence Phillips.

Good luck to the ncac teams tomorrow...let's keep it face punch free. :)

Can't wait to hear about the scrimmage tomorrow.

If they can fill their holes on D, Wheaton is going to be really, really tough. Their qb was a favorite of mine from last season (If I were making a list, Wooster's Holter and CWRU's Whalen would be included, too) and Gingg is a beast at RB.

and, 84, just for fun I'll go on the record and say that for all the hype Lemond gets (and deserves, with those numbers) I've always been more excited by Wes. He's my pick for a breakout year this season.

getting excited...

I haven't heard anywhere whether or not he even HAS another year of eligibility.  IF he had two years of JC before OU, I believe he would be through.  Anyone know?

smedindy

From what I read, he's a senior. He's done. I don't think there's anyway he can get another year. He won't be a medical redshirt.
