Good luck to all NCAC teams in action today! Lots of wins and no injuries!

The air smells sweeter (and cooler in Texas after a night of rain), the coffee tastes better, and the couch feels more comfortable because finally football is back.

Here's to a great season in the NCAC and D3!

But as long as that WSU flag is at Gameday on Saturday, I'll know everything in the world is still ok.  It's just a game, right?   :)

Flag flying proudly today.  Go Cougs!

What a game in Wooster. Wish I could see this one in person. Its going to come down to who has the ball last.

Wooster's defense obviously has a lot of work to do.

Great and exciting game though.   Wooster will get it figured out.

Tough loss for Woo today.  The word of the game was 'offense'.  Two plays stand out in my mind as the Scots shoot themselves in the foot.  The first was in the first half when the Scots fumble the ball inside the Waynesburg  25 (It looked like the Scots were about to score) and Waynesburg returns it for a TD.  The second, during the last drive of the game, Scots bomb the ball from their 45 and the ball is caught on the 1 yard line.  Play is called back for illegal man down field.

Didn't one of the Woo posters talk about how good their D was?  Wasn't the quote "defense wins championships?"

Waynesburg rolls 521 yards of total offense on them.

Yikes.

Anyone take in the Wabash / Wheaton scrimmage?

COW has two weeks to get their D straightened out before they play OWU. A real barnburner, which makes a fun game, but the Scot faithful have to be concerned about the D.

For the record, Defense does win chamionships and no one ever said that Woosters defense was going to win them the NCAC crown, just that it should be a strongpoint.  That was obviously not the case today.  I was a little concerned about who was going to anchor the secondary with Albani and after today it's no one.  Great job by the offense though.  Will you please bring some pressure noext week Schmitz!?  No sacks, and 42 points is exactly whats going to happen.  Get back in the sattle though boys and get after it against OWU

What a crazy game, with six lead changes in the fourth quarter (and nearly a seventh, with a long Scot TD pass called back on the final drive).  Despite the Scots losing, it was entertaining to say the least.

If Wooster's secondary doesn't improve, it could be a very disappointing season.  Early in the game, the Scots were getting beaten deep; later on, they started giving Waynesburg's receivers a big cushion, and the end result was no different.

Hopefully the bye week will offer the opportunity to make some defensive changes.

Going over the stats from the woo game, two big things I see... To begin with, 0 sacks.  ZERO.  Something has to be done about that.  And also, Austin Holter has to be the offensive player of the week in the NCAC.  Haven't heard about any other performances, but this guy accumulated 425 yards of offense himself and accounted for 3 passing and 1 rushing touchdowns... and most importantly no interceptions.  Decision making was the big question surrounding Holter this season, and I'd say he's off to a great start.

CMU Tartans OWN the Bishops.....4-0 record while allowing OWU ONLY 14 total points...
The Battling Bishops outgained the Tartans 300-165 with 204 yards coming from the ground attack.  Freshman Stephen Hayes led the Ohio Wesleyan attack with 116 yards on 21 carries.

The quick review of the Wabash/Wheaton scrimmage is that our #1's did very well against their #1's. Later on, our 2's and 3's did not fair as well, but over all I was pleased. The Defense played well, stopping the run especially. The offense looked ok, but we really need a center. I see big problems that could stall drives and even cause turn overs, if we don't get that problem solved. It looked like Nick Durm performed the best at center today. We also need a running back to step up and take the position. Right now it looks like running back by committee. Several of the young men looked fairly good today, but no one really seperated themselves from the pack.

It was a beautiful day to watch football, I can't wait until next week! ;D
