I'm not sure what Case does, but until Saturday our starters never saw much more than 1 series in the third quarter.

At any rate, I will repeat that I don't care where we are ranked right now. All we need to do is win all our games and the rankings will take care of themselves. If Case is ranked in front of us at the end of the season, then I will be bothered, but right now I could care less.

Blue-4-now:

OK ... that sounds good.  Will be interesting for both Case and Wabash future to see what Case does with Woo.

As for Wabash, while I hope there is no looking past Wash U ... suspect there might be a little peek ... which may affect the score ... a Wabash W but perhaps not as big as it should be.  ER may have something to say about that.

The Witt game should be a barn burner.

Black n Gold,

Wooster vs CWRU, at night, sounds like a great game to travel to on Sat.  What time do they start?...................Aueagle, did you attend OWU's first win of the season?  I know it was only by 3 points but what a wonderful Homecoming Weekend atmosphere with at least 3,000 in attendance at Selby, including some very fun LAX alumni I shared a few pints with that night at 'The Bag of Nails".

You guys see this nonsense from the Wabash press release on the Bell game today:

QuoteBlackstock Stadium parking lots will open at 10 a.m.

Are you kidding me?  10 a.m.?  What a joke.  A really, really unfunny joke.

I might just tailgate at the Hollett in the morning and go down to Greendingle for gametime.   Seriously...why doesn't DPU just put out a statement saying that they don't want anybody tailgating before the game and get it over with?

I agree.  However, I will say this.  I have never worn any black and gold around before a Bell game, but it seems like every year some drunk punk wants to say something "intelligent" to me before the game in the parking lot.  There have been a few times that I thought an altercation might be in order, but I'm just not that kind of guy.  I can see why they want to limit that exposure time.  I'm surprised things don't get uglier.

Maybe there are random Wabash fans who do this as well.  I certainly hope not.

It would be pretty nice if they could set up 2 separate parking lots for the real fans to enjoy a little more pre-game atmosphere.

Then don't tailgate in that parking lot?  Tailgate behind Lilly in that art parking lot.  There's more parking over on the south side of Lilly.  There's more parking over behind the Walden Inn and the libary.  There's a big parking lot on the other side of the Walden next to Marvin's by the movie theater, as well.  That's like a 3 block walk.  I guess I can't guarantee that the University would make all of those places available, but I cannot see why they would not without saying so directly.  Also, I don't want to hear that noise since I have to park in Boone County and walk down to Crawfordsville when I go to the game up there.

Wes my man:

That just goes to show you do not know what you are talking about.  Wabash provides the parking lot next to the fine arts building about 300 yards from the field (which generally needs to be fumigated after the event) for the Dannie types to utilize before the game at Wabash ... with ... oh my heavens ! ... no time limit either before or after the game.  But then again Wabash does not hide or imprision the Bell.  Hmmmm ... a pattern here?

It's not about proximity...they aren't letting people park at the stadium until 10:00 a.m. which tells me that they don't want people arriving anywhere on campus until that time.  I don't think you have to read too far between the lines to see that.

This move confuses me more than anything else.  Why does DePauw hate football so much?  We are LUCKY to be able to be a part of this jewel of small college football.  Scores of schools would love to be able to be part of something like what we have here...yet DePauw doesn't seem to want to embrace it.  They limit access to the game by keeping the ticket numbers low, now they want keep people away from the stadium and away from campus before the game.  And it's not just the Bell game.  They fired their successful and wildly popular coach on the eve of the season...why can't the University just let good football happen?  Why must they fight it so much?

It seriously has to suck so unbelievably bad to play for or be a fan of a place that just refuses to embrace football success in general and the glorious event that is Monon Bell day (and it's not just a football game...it's an entire day where we all gather and celebrate our seasons and our rivalry).  How frustrating is it to have the administration neutering the football experience every 2-3 years?  I only have to deal with it to this level one game every two years and I absolutely hate it.  If I had to deal with this stuff every single year, the frustration would have driven me insane by now.

case will rarely post a huge score.  debs is more concerned about getting his starters thier work while making sure the backups receive their reps as well,  if whalen, for one, was to play as much as hudson and the other wabash starters then case would score a helluva lot more than they already do.

as it is the case starters sit most of the second half.  debs is more about whats best for the team and not the pollsters who simply look at scoreboards.

This is wrong, wrong, wrong and the inference that Wabash is concerned with pollsters and scoreboards is ridiculous.

Looking at common opponents: Wabash, against Denison, pulled starters in the third quarter after two offensive series and, against Kenyon, after one (a game where the case starters never got pulled). Sorry dude. No dice.

Blue4now,

I hope I am misreading your comment about Hudson & Co. playing longer then Whalen & Co.  Are you serious?  I can think of multiple times this season where Coach Raeburn has either taken a knee at the end of a half, etc. and I certainly do not think he is leaving the starters in to run up scores or stats.

Wally - yes, I agree, what a joke on the lots opening at 10 A.M.  Every year though it seems like DPU does something that causes us to wonder.  I am sure we will find a way but I completely agree, it really takes away from one of the best weekends of the year.  Just the fact that we have to come up with an alternative plan is a pain in the a$$.  That would be way too crazy if we just had to drive to the stadium, park, tailgate, and then attend the game.  I would love to know their rationale.  To put this in perspective, the first car left our house for Hollett Stadium last year from Brownsburg to set up our tailgate at 4 A.M.

Fripp52

Slow down on the tailgating guideline comments.  I will email the SID and try to get the real information.  I have attended nearly every home game since 2007 and most of the away games.  There is more tailgating at DePauw home games than any other school by a long margin.  I can't speak for a Wabash home game.  I try not to set foot on that campus unless it's a Monon game.  I will let you know what I find out.  I do know they will not allow motor homes in the Blackstock parking lot.  I don't like it either.  Not much I can do about it.

Come on, wally.  Having to park across the street has nothing to do with the broad strokes you're painting here.  They don't want to tailgate in the stadium.  Sorry.  Go tailgate where they want you to tailgate.

That parking lot is way too small to hold the entire DePauw contingent.  Also, If I owned an RV, that would be fine.  But, I'm 25.  Forgive me, I don't.  If I show up even two hours before kickoff, I have to park 10 miles away.  That's what happened in 2006.  I got there at 10:45 and it not only took me 45 minutes to find a place, I ended up literally 20 blocks away.  Wabash fans have absolutely no place to gripe about the parking situation at DePauw.  Maybe you don't realize that because you arrive on Friday or at 4am on Satuday.  But, for those of us that arrive at normal hours, you can't park.  Just can't.

wally_wabash

In 2007, they opened the lot at 9:00.  I didn't like that either, but 9-12:30 or so is sufficient for a tailgate, even if the occasion would seem to warrant more time out with your friends before the game (more people, more to grill, more to talk about, etc. etc.).  We got in the lot about 9:03 in 2007, made world record time in unloading our gear and getting the grill and turkey fryer fired up and we had a good time.  Trimming an hour off of the available time is going to kill the tailgate...there just isn't enough time to do it properly, particularly if you don't time your arrival just right and you get stuck in what's going to be an enormous single file line of vehicles on that Saturday morning.  I could live with 9:00 again.  10:00 is dumb.  I've usually got a big list of things to do on Bell Saturday...not on that list is "sleeping in".

Where do you tailgate before the Bell game in odd numbered years, Wes?

I usually hit up the frat house, but I was down in that art building parking lot in between Jackson St & Indiana Ave. for for a short time in '07.  I can't recall for sure if 2007 was the first year they did not allow RV's in the stadium parking lot, but off the top of my head, I believe that's the case.  That year, I was told they did not set any time limit on arriving in that parking lot next to the art building.  The way I have understood the policies, they do not allow any entrance or tailgating in the Blackstock Stadium parking lot ONLY.  I was told last year by a few parents that they arrived at that art building parking lot fairly early.  If you go across the street to the art building, you can show up any time you please, apparently.  It's right across from the stadium.  3 minute walk to get to the Wabash sideline.

That was actually a pretty good atmosphere in '07. I didn't spend a lot of time in it and I got there pretty late because of a family emergency, but it seemed OK.

Something tells me the University is overreacting to a couple of incidents in that Blackstock parking lot the last couple of Bell games.  Yeah, it's stupid. I agree.  I do know that DePauw thinks that's a hard area to manage from a security standpoint and they have had a hard time getting parking in the only big lot on campus when tailgaters are taking 2 and 3 spots a piece.

If you go to that art parking lot at the time you're talking about arriving, there's going to be a spot for you.  Unless, of course, they change the rules on that space, too.

Don't know which poll you mean by that but our poll is the one that least fits this description. We are far more the "strength of schedule" devotees as opposed to the AFCA's poll, which tilts far more towards "winning percentage."
