As to Wash U.....here's a quote from their campus newspaper from one of their RB's:

The Bears will travel to Crawfordsville, Ind., on Saturday to take on No. 12 Wabash College (4-0).

"Yeah, they're ranked...but we've got a feel for them," O'Brien said. "We know that they're not superhuman...that they're just like us; that they're just going out there to play."

Bulletin board material?

Not posted this year but been lurking about.  Been to two Bash games so far and have been very impressed especially with the running game which gives me high hopes for tougher games to come and hopefully a playoff run.

The talk about CWRU is really pointless.  If we go undefeated through conference and earn automatic bid our placement will come down to the bell game.  If we win that and finish undefeated I am sure we will be ahead of CWRU in the region even if they go undefeated.  If we win conference and lose to Depauw(see last two years) then our slotting in the region will fall drastically and cost us at least two home football games for the playoffs.  It is really that simple.

Undefeated we get a 2 or 3 seed and if we lose to Depauw we fall somewhere between 4 and 6.

Last year Washington managed 14 rush yards and had more punts (9) than first downs (8 ).  And they lost 37-12 and that score doesn't really tell you how not close the game.  I don't think they've got a good feel for much of anything.  If they were going to have a good feel for anybody from the NCAC, you would think it would have been Wittenberg....but we see about how well that turned out.

This is a non conference, non-regional game happening the week before the biggest game of the year.  If anybody was going to catch the LGs not focused on the present week, this is it.  But it's not happening...certainly not at home.

Bill Wagner forwarded my note onto Page Cotton.  I will let you know the  response.  I asked about tickets sales as well.  DPU goes on sale on 28 Oct.  Wonder why it takes place 3 weeks after Wabash ?  Referring to Wes' posts, if the Art Building is the one where they allowed RVs in 2007, that situation was very nice.  We parked the RV on Friday late afternoon and left it there until the keg was empty just after the game.  It is a 2 block or so walk to the stadium.  It's a bigger lot than the one at Wabash.  But, it is significantly smaller than the Blackstock stadium one.  I will let you know when I know.

Wally,

I thought that was a funny quote that can do nothing but inspire Bash to put the hammer down early.  Last year's game was weird, with a deceptively close half-time score, but never any doubt to those of us at the game.

On the whole issues of Top 25 rankings, it is an incredibly tough job especially in Division III.

Pat's comments at half time in Meadville were excellant.  In D3 football, there is a small Top Tier of teams and then there is a growing group of 2nd tier teams.   Very tough to rank.   Is #22 a better team then #15.....or even #11.... they very well could be.

The one luxury we get as D3 Football fans is that we actually have a tournament at the end of the year.   At that time, we get to see much more reality behind the rankings.

Mr. Ypsi

Stewart Mandel (si.com) has a sympathetic piece on Stan Parrish (who is currently mired in a 0-32-1 streak as a head coach, covering nearly 23 years).

While he's had success after Wabash (he turned around Marshall as a HC, producing the first winning seasons following the air disaster in 1970(?), and, as an assistant, won a national title at Michigan (where he was position coach for some dude named Tom Brady) and a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay), I can't help wondering if a part of him yearns to have stayed an LG?  Or did he flee when Pete Metzalaars graduated? ;D

zed07,

Can you send me that link?  I cannot find it on WashU's site...

Thanks,

THIS piece done before the season started indicated you might be right.

BB16,

Here it is:

I have a sneaking suspicion those holes he ran through against the mighty Rhodes Lynx may not be quite as big on Saturday.

That's karmalicious.   :)

I doubt that Wabash will get caught off guard this week.  I however, will confess to be looking ahead to 10/17.  I have been since about July.

fyi - Coach Ward with leading rusher A. Lafitte have McPherson College (Kan.) up to #18 in latest NAIA poll.

They are 1-3.

But Rochester's one win is better than any wins by any team Wooster has beaten (or even the team they lost to.)

And I'll take an ugly win v Kenyon over a loss to Waynesburg.

luvncac,

The Wooster/ Case game kickoff is at 7:00pm. If you want a seat try to get there early. Case fans travel well, and it's Football Alumni weekend. It sounds like there is going to be a nice crowd (first ever night game on the turf). I guess the Alumni will be walking the hill with the team prior to the game and over 200 players have already confirmed. I'm sure there will be a lot of emotions when the past and present Scots mix before the game...as a player, if that doesn't get you pumped up then I don't know what would.

I will be pulling a double header as Capital takes on Mount Union at 1:30 in Columbus, then I'll be shooting up to Wooster for the Kickoff...hopefully I don't get a speeding ticket. ;)

Some notes on the game:
