What a tease on the front page for the new feature with ER!  Who's not going to click that link?    :D

No kidding. I saw that link and thought "now that is provocative".  :D

Living in S. Florida and seeing the likes of Florida, Miami, Florida State and about 10 different SEC games televised on TV at the same time, I see a lot of great football and great athletes perform every week.

We all see many good athletes and then we see those few that strike us as special.

To me.... when I have had the fortune of watching #84 Wes Chamblee play this year..(thank you webcast) I get that feeling.   His speed, field vision and the way he runs is tremendous.  Lemond being in the stable as well has got to be very tough for defensive backfields to plan for.   Especially when if Hudson gets the ball in the same zip code, Lemond will most likely come down with it.

In the past ten years, Wabash has had some good receivers pass through the program. Short, Bronaugh (still one of the best kick returners I have ever seen) Summers, Clifton, Walker, Casper, Ray Green and many others that I am sure I have not mentioned. (sorry)

So the question -  Is this the best 2 - receiver combination in recent times?

Whatever Bash fans answer is to the question, I am just glad we have them on our side.

(O-line disclaimer - an offensive line that allows 2 sacks in 112 passing attempts  :o gets some credit for the success of the passing game)

You know you're packing on the years when you wonder if your college years count as "recent times."

I remember the '98 season, when we came oh-so-close to our first undefeated season since 1982. I think that year we had Frank Serge, Jay Dee Flynn (who was near unstoppable) and the older of the Casper brothers, Chet. Those were some good years for the receiving corps. Just stellar depth.

But as I noted above, that might not count as recent times ;)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Now I take a great deal of pride in not being nearly as old (and/or wise) as a few of the Wabash alums around these here parts.  I've only been old enough to make an educated decision about this rivalry for the last 10 years or so.  For my money, I thought the two years that you had Clifton & Short together were about as good as it got.   You can't double them both.  Somebody in that pair is going to beat you.  I recall that those two tore us up especially badly in '01 '02.  They combined for 14 catches for 217.  Short had all 4 TD's.

No, you know you're packing on the years when Joe Haklin intercepted more balls than Lee Fouts caught in a game, Jon Pactor wore regular neckwear at college functions, and Willis Johnson's Waugh Hall lectures were experienced with the previous poster's father, Paul...  ;D ;)  But at least I'm not as ancient as AP (wab64)  :D

C'mon Cave2, I'm not as ancient as all that! I'm a year younger that all of my contemporaries because they skipped me a year in grade school. I don't have any memories of an air circus, since they were the single-wing years (off-tackle left, off-tackle right, quick kick), and 4 consecutive losses to DePauw. I deeply regret 1962 when Bash led 10-0 at half=time, Mont changed to white jerseys in the locker room and the passing attack led to a 13-10 win. Phooey!

Glad I woke you from your nap, wab64.  Did you make it to UC?

QuoteShaping up to sound like he and Mr. Koors are going to make 11/14 awful exciting this year.

A quick check of the NCAA stats shows AK is #1 in the nation at 161 yards per game.

Brashbash

as a former defensive player for the old scarlet, i love to see what ya'll think about this years d.  matt whyde is a disruptive force on the d line, and i think that wabash is deceptively deep on the d line.  a bunch of guys that don't steal the spotlight, but still a great addition to the d.  but, as most of us wabash faithful know, the deepest part of our defense is the lbs.  kraft might be the most athletically gifted lb or player for that matter.  he flies around.  cj gum is a hard nosed old school football player. he will straight knock your teeth out.  james panell is a freak, and it crosses my eyes to watch him pass rush.  and bryan watson might be the most underrated player in the conference.  his stats aren't eye popping, but he plays with an anger and intensity that gives me chills.  and that 40 makes anybody play like a stud.  in terms of secondary, frederick is slowly becoming a viable candidate for d player of the year--ints happen to just collect in his stat column every week.  and jake martin is playing lights out.  i think wash u and any other team the W plays this year will be sore as hell on sunday.  wondering if anyone has any thoughts for a grizzled ex player tryin to follow his alma mater.

offensively though, hudson needs to start takin care of that ball better.  but he's improving, and soon will be all american caliber.  mambourg is a straight stud.  tokar is a dominant force.  and i don't need to say a word about the receivers.  ha!

Nope. Any thoughts I might have had disappeared with my car keys which I lost on the kitchen floor amid the clutter. What was lost is found again, but too late for Chicago. Time to go back to finish my nap.

Bashbro / Wally,

I will try to call you guys today for a pretty cool story...here are the highlights:
- I was picking up carry out sushi at one of my favorite local spots
- was having a cold one while waiting
- I turn around, sitting in a booth by himself, also waiting on his order, ummm, DPU interim head coach Robby Long  ;D

I did one of the following:

A)  Immediately grabbed a pile of wasabi and pounced on him in surprise and tried to rub it in to his eyes while yelling "DePauw Swallows"
B)  Given he's a big dude, I leveraged my arm strength and fired from long range pelting him with Yellowfin Tuna, SaltWater Eel, and Salmon...
C)  Sat down and had a couple of beers with him

Here's a hint...he was a great guy!

I don't think I'm buying that the NCAC-UAA agreement keeps Wabash from scheduling Mt. Union.  Allegheny is able to schedule two games outside the agreement, why can't Wabash?

Mind you, I'm not saying they should schedule Mt. Union.   ;)
